Bourbon Steak - Los Angeles Ratings and Reviews
Even with a reservation , we were set seated in the bar area, not the main Dining area. The music was loud, the booth that we were seated in was extremely uncomfortable. The gentleman that brought our food out pretty much plopped down our plates, and the service was slow due to the fact that we were in the bar area and there’s no real wait staff in there, waited over 30 mins for a cup of water. The food was great, but I won’t be going back.
The staff was attentive of our needs and genuinely provided great service. The warm ambience partially comes from the great lighting and design, but mainly from people such as Lauren. All together, the people are what make me come back for more~
A wonderful classy steakhouse. One might argue where the best steaks are. So much of this discussion is a matter of opinion. There are many steak houses in Los Angeles and it's environs. Most have very good steaks, sides, etc. Places like Flemings, Ruth Chris's, Morton's, Mastro's, and the more local places like Cut, Jar, Arroyo Chop House, Pacific Dining Car, etc. etc. Why is Michael Mina's Burbon among the very best? Several reasons:
Their steaks can compete with anyones.
Michael Mina made his reputation with seafood, and there are always 4 or 5 seafood dishes as good as one can get in any good seafood restaurant
There is live music many nights which contributes to a relaxing but energized atmosphere
They have a dedicated sommelier, and wine service which can elevate the entire dining expierence; they care about this realm of fine dining.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and you'll love all the furniture, but I was disappointed by the level of service. We sat at our lovely table for 10 minutes before we were given menus or water and my rib cap was overcooked. Considering the price, I was going to send it back, but by the time our server came back around, it was 30 minutes later and just not worth it. Our server did not check in on us at all during our entree course, or any course for that matter. We also ordered sides of the creamed spinach and truffle mac and cheese. The creamed spinach was a little bland, but I liked the change from the traditional Parmesan cheese to feta. I took the leftovers home, added some salt and red pepper flakes, and it was great. The mac and cheese was a bit under, but still edible. The truffle flavor was not overpowering. My boyfriend's salmon was delicious. Considering this is a high caliber restaurant, I was surprised. I would not go back, nor would I suggest it.
We are never disappointed with dinner or drinks at Bourbon. If you don't fill up on the duck fat fries at the start of your meal, the choices are all delicious. Our favorite is the lobster pot pie and wedge salad. Of course, the meat eaters in your party will be pleased at the selection of steaks, always cooked to order. Servers are consistently excellent.
Amazing service and food. Took my sister for her 35th birthday along with my teen daughter and with so many restaurants to choose from that are participating in DINE LA week I’m so glad we went to Bourbon Steak. From the moment we walked in the door and were greeted/seated by the hostess to the moment we left, the service was top notch. Lauren our server was sweet, personable and on top of everything all night as was the rest of the staff. Even the GM stopped by our table to check in on us. The food was delicious, the steaks were perfectly cooked, the king salmon was tender, melted in your mouth and cooked just right. The sides were seriously amazing... best Brussel sprouts I’ve ever tasted and the Mac and cheese WOW! Finally the $20 wine pairing for each course was perfect from a slightly crisp tart white fro the appetizers, oaksy red for the entree to the sweet white for dessert each complimented the course. Overall one of the best dining experiences I have had with a five star staff. Oh and how sweet of them to have left a bday card on our table for my sister signed by the staff?!? I mean what establishment does that nowadays!! Two thumbs up.
Pro's: Beautiful restaurant, fabulous ambiance, fantastic service (our waiter was great!), and the filet. We came to a steak house, and the filet was cooked perfectly and delicious.
Con's: Sadly the rest of our dishes just didn't do much for us. I was extremely excited for the truffle mac n cheese and found it to be slightly overcooked and lacked seasoning. The Brussels sprouts were not cooked long enough. And the tuna appetizer was just not good...
We went to Bourbon Steak for brunch (which begins at 12:00 noon on Sunday) and were very disappointed at the extremely limited brunch menu. Additionally, we were not permitted to order from a lunch menu, since we were at the restaurant at noon on a Sunday, which is the brunch period. We would have preferred a more extensive brunch menu, or the option to order from a regular lunch menu. Of additional note is that we were the only customers in the restaurant during the time we were there. We likely would have had a very different experience (much better), had we come at lunchtime on a weekday, or at dinnertime.
My husband and I returned to Bourbon Steak since I was craving lamb and it was as good as our last visit. We also had their special foie gras w persimmon 3-ways + sourdough bread.. magnificent, I tell ya! Thanks for selling it so nicely, Tony (our server)! We had a wonderful meal, enjoyed our time, and will definitely be back.
It's great to be really busy but when you are make sure you'll be properly staffed to take care of all of your guests. Also have places for them to wait and have a drink when you'll be 15 minutes late with their reservation.
Great steak in an otherwise relatively limited menu selection. Dessert options not very special although dessert wines are very comprehensive as is the entire wine list. The best feature of this restaurant is the service which is very attentive and professional. Somewhat pricey, this is for a special occasion.
This is one of our favorite restaurants! Very lucky to have this amazing place in our city of Glendale! The service is impeccable. The menu choices are spectacular. Love the space. It's a very comfortable restaurant. As usual we had a wonderful time. Just one issue. I should have brought it to the attention of the server, but failed to say anything. My steak was very tough and had a lot of gristle. Didn't enjoy it!
We love Bourbon Steak for special occasions because they make you feel special. They thanked us for returning - that is special and something that isn't done at restaurants we go to much more often. Our server Lauren was charming helpful and so friendly we wanted to take her home.
Not up to to the level of other Michael Mina restaurants. The steaks are the best part of the menu, but still only average for steak houses of this level. The remainder of the non-steak entrees are below average (read: fish that is dry due to overcooking). This should not be the case in any Michael Mina establishment.
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday. We arrived 10 minutes early thinking we could get a drink before being seated, but there was a private party in the bar area and we weren’t allowed to order a drink and said it would be better if we came back in 10 minutes or they would text me when our table was ready. So we left and walked around until I was called. Soon I was called when our table was ready and a birthday card was at our table for my husband which was a very nice touch. The waitress was lovely and very articulate. The food did take an hour as they had the private party and another large table. This was a little hard because we had our 12 and 15 years with us to celebrate. However, they were kind and brought my husband a nice bourbon with a sorry of how it was made and an extra side when the food arrived. It’s always very nice when the restaurant realizes a situation without having to make any fuss. It’s the holiday season and I’m sure it’s not easy juggling larger parties. It’s a very nice restaurant. The food was excellent.
The food and service were excellent. The noise level was far too high - our party of four had difficulty carrying on a conversation. The music was techno and it seemed to echo through the room. Not what I expected on our first visit to the restaurant. I think it will also be our last. Sorry about that but I cannot recommend your restaurant.
It is a bit pricey but we are never disappointed. The whiskey sampler is always fun and educational, and the Japanese whiskeys are delicious and powerful. The steaks are well-prepared and the mashed potatoes are the best anywhere. The appetizers are also delicious. This is our favorite steak house and we enjoy it immensely.
We ordered the Australian waghu steak for two and it was delicious. The cocktails are seasonal and both drinks we ordered were refreshing and tasty. The staff is very knowledgeable on the menu and offered great recommendations. Another table ordered the whiskey flight service and it appeared to be quite intricate so we decided to order a whiskey pairing as well; it came with the dressing of the glass and also the pairing of a Asian pear. For dessert, we had the white devils food bourbon chocolate cake and it was amazing.
GOT GREAT REVIEWS BUT WE ALL (6) WERE DISAPPOINTED. BEAUTIFUL DECOR AND FRIENDLY BUT SLOW SERVICE. SALADS GOOD. CHEF'S SPECIALTY OF TUNA TARTAR IS REALLY A POKE BUT STILL QUITE GOOD. SPRING ROLLS GOOD TOO. ANOTHER SPECIALTY OF MAC & CHEESE WAS HO-HUM. ALL SIDES TOO SMALL FOR 6 PEOPLE TO SHARE. THREE NEW YORKS WERE COOKED MORE THAN REQUESTED AND WERE CHEWY. MY WIFE'S FILET WAS TOO TOUGH TO EAT AND SENT IT BACK. FISH WAS GOOD. DESSERTS WERE VERY MEDIOCORE. TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THE QUALITY.
