Bouley at Home is fine dining exposed! Off the chart wine selections. Talk with cooks or Chef Bouley on how and why he created his menu with details in the ingredients - focus on health! Each bite from the tasting menu delectable- we asked for some of our favorites dishes from past Bouley experiences, the chefs were more happy to create: sea urchin highlights, egg plant terrine, lamb- This is a rare opportunity to see the man who trained so many chefs in NYC and to experience what the words: ‘Food Culture’ actually mean.
The food was good; but, we were seated downstairs in what seemed to be an accessory dining room--odd, and much less interesting than the upstairs dining room. Overall, the ambiance of the restaurant has an early 1990s feel.
Amazing dinner! Went here with family- upon walking in you have the scent of apples in the foyer. We sat downstairs in the red room. Females must use the ladies room- huge with comfy couches! Heard it is relocating. Even gave us a loaf of bread to take home. Great cocktails too! Yummy!
The service and ambiance were very good. The food was OK but not outstanding. The price was very high given the standard of the food. In other words the price/value was out of whack. I would not recommend and will not repeat. There are much better places to go in NY for your money.

Absolutely fantastic food and experience. The bread cart and cheese cart are a must. Service was good but a few things were missed for that level of restaurant. In my view courses shouldn't be served until all guests are seated and napkins should always be refolded when one guest steps away which they weren't in our case. Overall still a fantastic meal which I would go back for.
This is my fifth or sixth visit to Bouley since I moved to NYC. I was dining during both lunch and dinner time before but no such an experience like this time. Firstly, the service was slow. The intervals between courses were longer than the normal. And even for taking orders, we have been like waiting for 20 mins and no one came to take our orders. Secondly, we ordered two glasses of champagne to start. The sommelier brought the bottles and just poured the wine full glasses. He did not ask for a sip to taste. Maybe it is because of their closing up and changing lots of staff. But all others are good. The food, especially their bread, is still stunning.
Had my wife's birthday at Bouley on Friday. Ordered the spring tasting menu w/o wine pairing. The Malibu urchin is absolutely exceptional with complex flavor. Rest of the courses are good but not stunning. Porcini Flan was suppose to be the chef's signature, however a little bit too salty which covered the original sweet flavor of the crab meat and there were 3 pieces of "crab bones" in the soup, which shouldn't happen in this level of fine dinning restaurant. Overall good service but the food lacks an astonishing touch.
As usual, the food and ambiance was wonderful. But we had to send back the veal because it was tough. I mentioned a birthday and they brought a piece of Napoleon with a candle and writing on the plate. It was delicious and very special. The staff is very attentive. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Even entering the restaurant is an experience. The vestibule smells of apples, and then you enter the lounge with beautiful furniture and flowers. Starting with a cocktail, you get to relax before entering the dining room. If you are early, you step into an elegant dining room and everything seems peaceful. The energy picks up as the room fills over the evening. At some point, you may wish for the tranquility to return.
As you look through the tasting menu, the hardest choice will be the number of courses. And, when you ask if one of the tasting menu courses could be an entree, the answer will almost certainly be yes. Even though there is foie gras in three dishes, each preparation is different. Why not try all three? (I did.)
The wine list, which seems daunting at first, has some great selections from off-the-beaten-path regions. The "fun" wines are reasonable. The "name" wines, not as much. Or, a few by-the-glass selections can complement the meal.
The bread "cart" comes by and each of the 10-or-so choices sounds wonderful. You will want to try them all, apricot bread, cherry bread, brioche, olive, and more, but you won't.
And, of course, the food is even better than the experience leading up to it.
We had a fantastic experience eating in Bouley. In my opinion it is one of the Best Restaurant in the world both for best food quality and price. It is sad to hear that Bouley will be closed for 2 years due to relocation. Every course we had in the tasting menu was perfectly prepared. I am from Singapore and travel widely. Thanks David Bouley for the experience!
The lunch menu at Bouley is great value at $69 but the service is incredibly slow. We went for a family lunch on fourth of July weekend when the restaurant was less busy, yet it took over 30 minutes to get our menus. We had kids attending which the restaurant was fairly flexible (didn't have to get 3 courses on the al a carte menu), but a plate of plain pasta and cheese cost $30. Overall the lunch took over 3.5 hours. We had a 1.30 pm reservation and didn't leave until after 5 pm. The food was great, but the service was painfully slow and stiff so I probably wouldn't go back for that reason.
This is a unique restaurant with unusually high standards. You can be rest assured of having an incredibly delicious and beautifully presented meal made with the finest ingredients. It's easily on a par with, and in some cases surpasses, the best of the Parisian restaurants that I've been to.
Wow! This was one of the most amazing experiences we've had dining in quite some time! We dined here for lunch and had their price fixed menu with the wine pairings! This is the best deal for the quality of food you are getting! Every course offered unique presentations and extremely memorable flavor combinations. Our waiter, Benjamin, made our dining experience extra special and gave us wonderful recommendations and insight regarding the food. The sommelier was great and even offered to email us the names of our pairings so we could remember what we had. The entire staff was friendly, professional yet unpretentious.
The food was exquisite. We are big foodies and this was Perhaps the best dining experience we've ever had! I will never forget this day and hope to return someday!
$300 for 2, and worth every penny
For a 25th wedding anniversary, cheaper than jewelry, and more memorable. The experience is immersive from sidewalk to sidewalk. For ultra high end, singular food, service and ambiance, it's Bouley or Jean George in NYC.
Bouley is a very special place: beautiful, comfortable, amazing food and wine, gracious service. We had the lunchtime tasting menu with the wine pairing, which is an extraordinary culinary experience and a great deal, too! From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we felt well cared for -- as if the most important thing was that we should enjoy our food and wine and take all the time we wanted. I can't say enough about this restaurant. I've heard it may close but I hope that's not so.
The favorite restaurant for our family. Great ambience for any occasion coupled with fantastic food. My favorites are the porcini flan with with Dungeness crab, the uni with apple gelee and osetra caviar, the lamb, chicken and foil gras. The breads are to die for. Only don' t eat too much or you will be too full to enjoy the rest of the meal.
Truly extraordinary from the sensory focusing of entering through a room scented by apples and a second with roses, to optimally helpful yet unobtrusive service, brilliant cooking with a philosophy of best local, best healthy, and most imaginative tastes, textures, and visuals. Several of the dishes were better than anything I have eaten before. Unsurpassed anywhere. I went to the original Bouley in 1987, and he only gets better.
Solid French tasting menu. It just takes too long between dishes...and they just keep serving wine...I mean just my preference but I would have like it better if the food was faster and the wine slower. Highly recommended the Malibu sea urchin with ossetra caviar, the lobster, the veal and Vacherin d'agrumes. And their bread is to die for. Champagne menu below par in my opinion, a lot of big names but not super exciting in terms of growers and more interesting producers. All in all, very solid, excellent technique, great execution, only tiny points were for me the timing of serving and the champagne list.
