We chose Bouley at Home for a friend’s birthday lunch and could not have been happier. Everything about it was very fine - the beautiful home-like elegant decor with gorgeous bouquets of fresh flowers on every table, the perfect and friendly service, and most of all the amazing five course meals with a few extra treats as well. It was a most memorable special occasion!
What an amazing night out in NYC thanks to Bouley at Home. My friend has a number of food constraints (no gluten, dairy, nightshades, etc) and the chef went above and beyond to make her meal just as fantastic as mine. The quality of the ingredients are incredible and the attention to detail is superb. Plus, it's a treat to watch them cook the food while you're sitting at the table. Could not ask for a better meal - I'm still dreaming about the scallop in sea broth. Divine.
This had to have been an off night because from reading historical accounts, reviews and walking past the restaurant many times and seeing patrons enjoying food, etc. I am saddened by my own experience. I was expecting star service and taste.
We reserved the theatre menu and arrived on time. Yet it took 25 minutes before anyone attended our table, so much for the theatre menu. Then another 15 minutes before ordering and no one offered the wine list, etc I had to ask the waiter who was walking by to please get this ball rolling. Amazing. The crackers with meats finally arrived. I ate them with water. I was really looking forward to tasting the sea urchin, but it was buried under the very pronounced lime foam which overtook the dish, and the urchin was rendered flavorless and non existent. Next the forager mushroom dish...and the tuna was overcooked and bland. When I see toro, I expect it to be almost raw. There was no red or pink center. The lamb was chewy, and without any flavor. It tasted like beef. I even gave my friend a piece to try, thinking it was me. But no.
The deserts were okay, nothing cuisine about them.
I am so confused about what happened. I have eaten at many Michelin Star restaurants and since this was a new ONE, I wanted to try it.
Finally, the wine pairing was a huge disappointment. The wine did nothing for the food and this is where I was most sad. The marriage of tastes did not exist, and even on their own, the wines were only passable.
What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon catching up with a friend and enjoying splendid food and ambiance, not to mention delicious wine and attentive service while doing so! This was my first time to experience Bouley at Home, but definitely not the last. The five course lunch held continuous new tastes and beautiful presentations. A great New York day!
Despite pointing out that we had virtually no service for significant portions of the meal, the manager did nothing but invite us to come back again. Our water was left empty, our wine bottle inaccessible and ignored, and my wife's entree not cooked as she requested. Mr. Bouley himself was also in attendance, presumably aloof to the significant issues in his service and kitchen -- perhaps too busy sprinkling garnishes on random plates, living on an outdated reputation, like a dinosaur, surely on his way to extinction.
Service was not good. Fish was mediocre at best.
Easily one of the best dining experiences of my life! Each course was exquisite - amazing flavors and presentations, just the right amount of food to allow you to enjoy the next course, and each flavor had its place in the dinner. I'd be hard put to choose a favorite, but particular standouts are the starter kuzu crisps - 3 flavors to get your palate ready for the wonders to come; the oyster and sea urchin; the sable; and the best scrambled egg I've ever eaten. Lovely, surprisingly affordable wine by the glass selection. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially appreciated since I was dining solo that night. It was a huge pleasure to talk to Chef David Bouley and watch his calm, efficient manner as he worked with his staff.
Creative Cuisine and lovely French music and atmosphere. The sea urchin was delightful.
Wonderful evening - great food, lively atmosphere and perfect service. It was fun to sit at the counter and watch the chefs in action, including David Bouley himself.
Bouley at Home combines multiple aspects of a dining experience into one sensual journey through the menu, via an intimate atmosphere for both the staff and customer creating a oneness of experience like no other dining experience!
This is our most favorite NYC restaurant over 20 years. Every time we go, we feel it has gotten better. It was a beautiful celebration.
While not a big of a fan of this offshoot of Bouley, the service was lovely and the price still relatively affordable for a 5-course in NYC.
Celebrated our anniversary dinner here and loved the concept of the different stations and being able to watch things being prepared.
David Bouley was very friendly and took the time to explain different aspects of healthy ingredients.
The waitstaff were so very professional and caring.
It was a wonderful experience.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC. service is outstanding and food in unique, delicious and beautiful
REALLY Outstanding... in every way. For foodies, its inventive, successful and delicious. For ambiance its interactive with Chefs. counter style, and educational. There is not a single thing I would change, except how long it will be till I return.... I am dreaming about the langoustine course....
Sad to see once a beautiful luxury setting turned into a casual dining scene at Bouley. Food is still the top notch but dining at Bouley is not only about food but also an overall experience. Certainly NYC fine dining scene could not afford the NYS law once they used to. Would come back again as doing for last 15 years or so.
The food was bad and I got sick. It is not the same restaurant we visited regularly.
I delete it from my contacts.
Favorite place for fine dining ~~
This was one of the worst fine dining experiences I've ever had in the 20 years I've lived in NY. The ambience was terrible and on a Saturday night, the restaurant was 25% full. We should have left, but held out hope since we had nice dinners at Brushstroke. The food wasn't very good (I thought my husband's lamb was duck) and the pacing of the meal was very slow. We left right after the entree was served. The server didn't even ask why we we're leaving early after we asked for the check.
The most unusual uncommercial ambiance. You are in the chef’s eclectic loft eating a sumptuous food.
Tasting menu was delicious. We ordered the wine paring with the menu at $125 per person. It was very disappointing. It was a 7 course dinner but they only brought 4 different wines and only refilled once in the first white wine. For 4 people who spent $500 on wine, it was extremely disappointing. We could have ordered 3 very nice bottle and gotten a better value. It was almost as if we were bothering them by choosing the wine paring. Additionally, Bouley himself never came over to talk to us while he managed to speak to all the other tables in the restaurant (and it wasn’t that busy). Also, when making the reservation, it was not clear that we needed to request to sit in the Bar/kitchen area that is the actual “Bouley at Home” space and instead were seated in the other dining area typically reserved for private events. The space and ambiance was lovely but not what we were expecting.
Not sure the second time experience is as good as the first time or as average. The kitchen is way too slow. In between second course and first course, we waited at least 15 mins. The business of the restaurant failed at delivering what people are expecting. The whole experience is 2 star only because the waitress is friendly and personable, other wise 1 star. The restaurant failed at its mission.
An exceptional first time dining experience. Brad was magnificent in explaining each course as well as his colleagues.
Will definitely be back.
We are there for a birthday dinner. The experience was fantastic! Food was great and it’s great to see the chef cooking!
Went to the restaurant to celebrate birthdays (adult mother and daughter). The service was excellent and attentive without being intrusive. Food was delicious and innovative without straying too much from the classics. The setting is also lovely- it feels very much like dining in a much better version of someone’s home, with the furniture and decor echoing that of a living room and the kitchen very visible to diners. Highly recommend for a special occasion lunch as the $75 prix fixe is quite reasonable.
Outstanding food, ambiance, chefs, staff - one of the coolest, most unique and spectacular dining experiences I've ever had!
Love the food, service. Very special place.
Great to have an opportunity to enjoy Chef Bouley's and staff cooking. The atmosphere is casual and pleasing. the private event room looked like a terrific place to have a special occasion event. Too bad it isn't open for dining when there is no event booked.
Appetizers and desserts were great. Was not surprised by the main dish. I have heard great comments about their service from friends. However, our server that day was not attentive, he was basically taking the orders and that was it. I would expect a bit more for a one-star Michelin restaurant.
The food was delicious, the experience was fun, and the service was diligent and fri
Based on our Valentine's Day experience, it was both very expensive and very unpleasant. We were given inferior service and while some dishes were good, we were overall furious at the experience.
After arriving, they stated the table was getting set up still. They offered me a seat at a nearby table to wait. Another person was already sitting there and said the seat was taken which made for an awkward exchange. I was finally shown to my table and proceeded to wait about 10 minutes with no one offering water or asking if I wanted a drink.
Finally, my wife showed up and still no water. She finally arrived and sat down. Still no one came by. Finally after she went to the restroom and someone came by to fold her napkin did I have to proactively ask for water.
After that, it didn't get much better. My wife ordered a cranberry juice and the waiter said he would take it off the bill making it sound like it was complimentary...but it showed up on the bill and wasn't removed even after we pointed it out. Though we were earlier than our neighboring tables, our food always came out after everyone else, and we were not eating slower. We ordered first and even though food came later, we often finished courses first.
At the end during dessert, no one asked if we wanted coffee or tea. When chocolates came out the end, they just put a few on our plate. Our neighboring table got a full description and explanation and provided a choice including chocolates we never received.
We provided feedback and at the least, the manager Stephan asked what was wrong. We explained, and he apologized but that was it. Last but not least, when we gave our ticket for our jackets, they gave my wife only one her jacket but not her blazer. We had to ask where the blazer was.
So, after paying Valentine's Day prices for a horrible experience, I didn't feel the love that night. Awful experience. There are so many better options for my money.
Dinner for 4 to celebrate a birthday, which they completely forgot about and failed to acknowledge (despite the fact that I confirmed it twice). Service was slow and spotty and we had to ask to have our plates cleared, water refilled, wine decanted and wine poured. We were offered no opportunity to order coffee or tea with dessert and at midnight, all the staff basically packed up and left. Ridiculous service for the price.
Amazing experience. Food and wine were spectacular. Service was amazing. Highly recommend the restaurant.
I suggest the tasting menu. It gave us a much better experience than a la cartel and a nice sampling of the menu. We got to meet Chef Bouley who was very gracious and helped prepare a dish. Everything we had on the menu was delicious!
Our repeat visit was even better than the excellent first one! Several dishes were sublime, with the complex delivered apparently simply! Even the citrus pre-dessert course was well thought out, with a balance of crunch/softness and sweet/bitter. A master class!
