Had dinner on first night of re-opening. Very nicely laid out and professionally managed. Staff all have very cool clear plastic partial face masks that make personal experience normal and service was excellent as always. No feeling of crowding whatsoever.
As alway the food was all outstanding.
Wonderful to have this gem back.
Welcome back Boulevard! And you didn’t miss a beat. Felt safe. Felt welcome. And left feeling happy. Can’t wait to go back.
Great food, great service, overprice.
Amazing for special occasions!
Decided to try something new for a change. We were completely blown away by our phenomenal server, Lisa. She was exceptionally welcoming and accommodating towards us and really made our night. The food is just as amazing as the service! I can't wait to visit again.
Yvette was great!
Great food and service. Generous portions. A bit pricey but worth it. I'd definitely go back.
Their services was amazing. Oyster are the best. My server was really knowledgeable and I really like his recommendations. Yesterday is my anniversary with my boyfriend, they provide me a free dessert as well. I had a such great night. For sure I will back to this restaurant again and will recommend to my friends as well.
There is never any great joy in writing a critical review of a restaurant, especially one that clearly has a loyal following and the potential to live up to its lofty reputation. Unfortunately, our meal fell far short of reaching the bar that Boulevard clearly aspires to, and left us with the feeling that the kitchen was coasting on its reputation. That said, there were certainly positive elements. The Catena Cabernet Franc from the off the beaten path wine list was both unusual and delicious. The oysters were also impeccable, fresh and redolent of ocean. Sadly, the celeriac Waldorf salad was an unmitigated culinary catastrophe. Not only was the salad barely dressed, with virtually no hint of apple or walnut, dusted with the slightest skiff of Valdeon cheese, and unremittingly flavorless, but the celeriac had been robbed of any vestige of texture, taste, or crispness. I imagined that it had, perhaps, been extracted from a can predating Canadian independence. Our desperate attempt to salvage it by pouring the serviceable shallot mignonette from the oyster on top was a categorical failure. Then there was a wait, a long, long wait of nearly an hour until the remainder of our meal arrived. The sablefish was well-cooked, flaky and moist, but with flavors that erred on the bland side of subtle. The ling cod arrived with a nice crust, and the sunchoke curry was flavorful, but it had clearly spent an extended tenure awaiting the arrival of its partners before delivery to our table, to the detriment of both taste and texture. My “enhancement” of broccolini with Calabrian chile and Parmesan was, again, adequate, with good flavors but somewhat indifferent preparation where a bit of roasting could have been used to great advantage. In contrast, my wife’s roasted brussel sprout “enhancement” only served that role by remaining an uneaten table ornament after each of us made a one sprout trial foray. It was more boiled than roasted, coated with a mishmash of incompatible flavors.
We came to experience the special menu from executive chef Roger Ma's Canadian Culinary Championship win.
The menu was very nice, very well executed. Dessert was rather weak though, pretty meh! Unfortunately the portion size was very small and led to the proverbial, "Leave the restaurant to find some food". If you can't do it for $75, charge the extra and give people a decent meal! The portions on the regular menu seem very adequate, so what gives?
Good time, service was tremendous and food was even better. Definitely recommend to anyone for the tight occasion
With Chef Ma now the 2020 Canadian Culinary Champion, this is a superb spot to visit! And, most of all, taste the winning dishes if they are available as they were when we visited.
You're looking for the BC coastal terroir as a starter; the duck 'cassoulet' next; the oat crusted elk follows (incredible) and finish (make room) with dessert - sea buckthorn creameux which includes a stunning caramel mousse and just a touch of yogurt ice cream.
Wines are pricey but you have your choice to stick to BC in the 'new world', follow Chef Ma's pairing or head to 'old world' wines. The list is extensive and probably meets almost any palate.
So pleased too with the service - attentive but not intrusive - and a great spot for a special event, in this case a birthday.
Enjoy!
Great experience, from making the reservation, being seated at our table to the attentiveness of the server. Thank you!
What a wonderful night in Blvd.
The space was chilly and the food was just okay. Drinks were the same and service was solid.
A great meal. Very lively on a Friday night, so a bit noisy for my older ears.
Absolutely my favourite Restaurant in Vancouver!!!!! Loved it !
It was a lunch with the ladies for my birthday! The wait staff service was great with requests and their service was also very prompt. Portion sizes were reasonable everyone was happy with that and also the food was delicious. I would definitely want to come back again. And might also inquire about it for larger parties!
Nice environment, short waiting time, standard quality food. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends
Fresh seafood and excellent service. Great place to have raw oysters and some champagne
Service was fantastic and the mimosa trolley was a fun touch. I really appreciated how the restaurant made our birthday girl feel special with a note and surprise dessert! Thank you.
A friend and I had the Valentines Day set menu and it was absolutely delicious—worth the high price tag. The cucumber infused oyster was refreshing; the kanpachi was the perfect balance, and the prime beef striploin was mouth-watering. The portions were all the ideal sizes that left me feeling full but not overly so. Big fan!
Thank you for your incredible feedback. Our Chef's always take their time to prepare thoughtful cuisine, but they do like to test the limits on Valentine's Day. We look forward to having an opportunity to serve you and your guests again in the future! Isaac Olivier - AGM
We had the chef’s Valentine’s menu. The food was fantastic. The service was excellent. Unfortunately the wine paring was awful. Mostly cheap, undrinkable wines for $85 per person. Significantly reduced the quality of experience.
Thank you for the positive review! I have passed along your comments to your server and the kitchen team, who appreciate the kind words. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the pairings, though I would like to mention that our price for the wine pairings was at a very discounted rate - ie the '77 Port is a listed $33 portion. The other 4 pairings were similarly valued. At any rate, do give us another chance for your next celebration, we would love to try again! - Liam Fox, Asst Wine Director
Superb and masterful dishes with sumptuous surroundings. This is easily our favourite restaurant in town, but they really outdid themselves tonight. Thank you!
We all had the seafood linguini (home made pasta) and its exceptionally delicious!! The restaurant is moderately quiet so that we can have a good conversation. We will definitely be back.
Brought my girlfriend for her birthday and the food and experience was amazing as expected. Definitely will be returning again
Great food and amazing service. Though my body did not quite agree with the food, as it came back out the other end rather quickly.
Had the seafood linguine, mushroom, for grais and seafood tower.
Fantastic dining experience. We went for dineout on our anniversary. The staff were very friendly and brought a special dessert at the end since we were celebrating. All the dishes and cocktails were delicious. I would definitely go back and recommend to others.
Me and my wife’s favorite spot to dine at. With all the love the restaurant is already getting, i still think it’s one of the most underrated restaurant in town.
One thing is, I miss the Badenhorst Chenin Blanc they used to carry on their wine list.
Food was good, service sucked. Very slow and he seemed very new
We went for the Dine out menu which was fine for $50 but not that great.
Not worth the money
Portions is too small and quality is mediocre at its best. Good service though.
The place is quite authentic. Classy and chick although a bit old.
Service was really good.
You need to pay for the water and the bread they bring you at the beginning. It is usually a complimentary service.
The oysters and desserts were amazing. The service was mediocre at best for most of the meal. Then the bill came. First the server did not ask us if we wanted our bill and placed it on the table. That’s fine. But we wanted to each pay for our bills separately. Had she asked us before she brought the bill, we would have informed her. When she came back with the machine, we told her we wanted the bill separated and she gave us a very dirty look and lots of attitude when she came back with the bills. Not impressed and will not be returning nor recommending your establishment to others.
One of the best restaurants we’ve eaten while visiting Vancouver and Whistler. Excellent food and service. Every dish we had was prepared just right.
My foodie friend from New York thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience at Boulevard.
The service was great, food was decent, the courses just came a little slower than usual.
Service from waiting for our table with a confirmed reservations was slow... wasn’t offered any drinks or drink menu while waited a good 25 minutes.
When seated. Wait to order was slow, assuming they are understaffed as we see 2 larger parties. Still. Dine Out is about good exposure, not all exposure is good.
Off the top of my mind... my starter of tuna, the green sauce is fishy? Sauce was flavorless and beans were super al dente... didn’t help as it was also cold.
Hanger steak was excexuted well... had to ask for salt and pepper as the horseradish was creamed, fluffed and sweetened baring only as a moisturizer and nothing else in flavor.
Brownie is half a brownie, soft and nothing special.
Wine at $14 the Pinot noir is flat ... for what it is is over priced and under ounced. Feels like its been sitting out for a while uncapped. Which as I looked over... is true.
For a 3 course meal and one drink for over $70 that is cutting so many corners... no thank you.
Fantastic meal. Oddly, my client and I chose the exact same meal - a salad with a lemon vinaigrette followed by the seared scallops, which were among the best I’ve had anywhere (San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle included). The bread basket is nice also; sourdough and cornbread. Service was nice, the ambiance is great. Location is convenient being a short walk to the train station.
Great service team! Good food but the main sablefish is a bit on the salty side. Will surely be back.
I would have given 5 stars if they had the cider I wanted to order. Otherwise it was fantastic! Great food, not one shell in my oysters (you’d be surprised how many places do that) and I just loved the mini corn breads. A bit on the pricier side, but in the Sutton Hotel it’s to be expected. I’d definitely go back!
