Bouchard Restaurant and Inn Ratings and Reviews
Excellent all-around--top notch food, service, atmosphere. Each dish was unique, and the sauces were exquisite---in everything from the tuna tartar to the profiteroles. No heavy dishes here--and absolutely not pretentious at all. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy a well-prepared meal with exceptional attention to detail.
authentic haute cuisine. excellent service, creative & reasonable wine list, the best martini ever, and a friendly, warm ambience on a freezing midwinter evening. it is a credit to bouchard's reputation that the dining room was filled because newport at this time of the year is usually deadsville. this was my birthday dinner, and it had a surprise ending. maxim, the maître d'hôtel, is the son of roger putier, the master french chef who brought modern french cuisine to newport in 1975. bravissimo to the bouchards for keeping newport's culinary tradition alive!
Bouchard never disappoints. The chef is an artist and a wizard. Every mouthful was simply scrumptious. The meal was exquisite...one of the best we have ever eaten. Service was superb and atmoshere was charming. Fabulous place for foodies or anyone. We adore it.
We had a fine experience here but nothing special. The food was fairly good (we had the steak, the salmon salad and the grand marnier soufflé) but certainly not great. We were also initially seated in a kind of corridor/hallway despite having booked well in advance and having indicated that it was a special occasion. I would not return and in Newport, if I return, I will stick to more modest fare.
Amazing from start to finish. The staff was wonderful. The food was outstanding. Started with a French martini-one of the best I have ever had, first course was beef carpaccio-so tender and flavorful, second course was an endive salad that was delectable, third course was the duck breast - which came our more cooked than I expected was so tender and delicious that I got what it was prepared the way it was, last course was a grand marmite soufflé. Not one thing to complain about. Additionally, the wine Max picked was wonderful and absolutely within our price range. I would recommend Bouchard to anyone.
Bouchard is a great choice for a really good dinner. The cuisine is authentically french without being staid. The food is really delicious and well prepared. Service is attentive but not intrusive. At a recent birthday dinner, everyone loved their meal and the whole experience.
Worth a trip and getting a little more dressed up to match the ambiance of this lovely place.
Classic French cuisine with American nouvelle twists. Everything we had (5 different dishes, 2 apps, 2 mains, a dessert) tasted wonderful, was carefully prepared, and was beautifully presented. This is a fine dining restaurant without being stuffy or pretentious. The wine list is extensive and offers good, reasonably priced choices as well as celebratory splurges. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, yet unobtrusive. We had a cream of cauliflower (perhaps a veloute) soup with lobster, foie gras served with endive and a bit of potato, monkfish with lobster, and sweetbreads with a deglazed sauce with mushrooms. Dessert was a Grand Marnier souffle with creme anglaise. Every single item was memorable. It's not inexpensive but it is certainly worth the price for food and service of this exceptional quality.
We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner here; elegant but not stuffy. The service was top-notch!! The escargot and chef's pate appetizers were delicious. The entrees of peppercorn tenderloin (quite "peppery" but good) and the veal chop were wonderful as was the presentation. We shared a dessert of profiteroles. The waiter recommended a nice French red cabernet sauvignon which was an excellent choice. In addition, the decorations were tasteful and festive.
My husband and I dined at Bouchard's on Christmas Eve. The entire evening was fabulous! Staff was so friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself was cozy, charming and festive for the holidays. The ambiance was very warm and exactly what we were hoping for. When you walk in and see the tiny bar, you might think they might not be able to accommodate your drink order, but we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of cocktail options. The food was amazing! We were so full from our appetizers and entrees, that we sadly had to forego dessert, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We'll just have to try again next time....we'll definitely be back!
As always, Bouchard met our high standards and expectations in every respect. Our table captain, Max, was extremely helpful and attentive to our every need. Bouchard remains #1 on our list of restaurants for a special occasion or when we want to treat ourselves or guests to an enjoyable and memorable dining experience.
