Everything was great! The food, the drinks, the staff, the ambiance. Definitely going back!

There is an obvious inconsistency visible since I rated this restaurant 4 stars but rated every question with 5 stars. So the question begs, why only 4 stars? Simple, there was no rating for whether or not the reservations were kept. We booked reservations for 2 on open table for 8:15PM on a Saturday night. We arrived at about 8pm and were asked to have a seat at the bar for drinks until our table was ready. No big deal, the bartenders are awesome and energetic people who love their jobs... btw, they make phenomenal cocktails! Anyway, at about 8:40pm, I approached the hostess thinking that maybe she forgot about us. Not the case, she was politely frustrated by some (by her account - 4 separate tables) of people "sitting on their cell phones" or lingering and not moving on. We and two other couples were stranded at the bar. Eventually, at 8:50-8:55pm we just took the bartender up on his offer to eat at the bar (with one of the other couples who were our age), which ended up being really fun. My problem is not with the restaurant, it is with those who think they're entitled to a table for the night. Sorry, but there is a basic element of respect to both the restaurant, which is trying to make money, as well as to your fellow patrons. If you got there at a certain time and you've paid your bill, have some couth... Look around you, in a place like this, you could have carried on the conversation at the bar! Oh yeah, and had the decency to pay for the space you are still occupying. Anyway, too bad soft skinned Americans (of which I am one, born and raised in Western PA) would be offended or upset or uncomfortable being asked to move on once their meal was well past over. The bartenders did a great job adapting to the situation and making our night a great date night!

The ambiance is romantic with fireplaces and a picturesque wine room. Great for pictures. The wine list is good and so is the menu. The specials are extensive which gives you a great assortment of options and they are creative. Definitely worth the trip.
Mike was an excellent waiter with character and knowledge. I would recommend the berkshire pork chop and the bottagra pasta.

Something has changed since Dec. Bottagra used to be 5 star all the way. Now it is about 3.5 stars. The service is slow, the waiter seemed occupied elsewhere. Water glasses were empty...... Hopefully they wake up and correct the issues. Oh only two fish items on the menu during holy week! Does Bottagra think that all the Christians moved away or did the chef and manager make a huge mistake?

Drinks: excellent! The gentleman at the bar did a lovely job with all our cocktails.

Wait staff: our waiter was so kind and funny. Very attentive staff.

There was a woman at the bar (bartender??) who was laughably condescending with us regarding wine selection and how we should drink our wine. One of the bottles we requested was unavailable and the biggest recommendations from her were based on the $155 price point from our original bottle selection. It was a very bizarre interaction if she was the sommelier, to suggest based on price versus the group continually stating flavor and region preference, but it did not seem like it. The interaction was impactful enough that I’m writing it about it. She made a sarcastic comment in response to our request to have our wine decanted. Whether it’s a $10 bottle or a $400 bottle, most wines need to open up a bit and it’s a palate preference.


Food: The tuna tartar was great but the wonton it was served on was stale. The food had the potential to be great based on the good ingredients listed but it continually missed the mark for most foods based on criteria ranging from over cooked steak and salmon to under seasoning. The Mac and cheese and crispy Brussels sprouts were excellent though!

Dessert: bananas foster pudding and zeppoli were very rich and great.

I hope we just came on an off night but we will not make a second trip back for the food, but maybe the cocktails.

Extremely noisy with a packed house. Service was a bit scattered. Oysters were impeccable. Speidini was great. And the banana bread pudding is a must-have.

Overall great experience and food. Came for a birthday dinner.

Nice quiet dinner. Food, drinks and service are always on point. We live in town and it’s reasonably priced so we come often. Bottagra never disappoints!! Hope they stick around for a long time!

Great for weekdays...too crowded for us on weekends and a little too noisey

Dinner was very nice. Busy as it should be for a Saturday night. Bar was busy. It was noisy and loud bc the room is wide open and there were lots of birthdays.

Awful. Extremely noisy. Couldn’t have a conversation. Crowded and cramped. Even though we mentioned 3x we had a birthday they never acknowledged it. Ordered beef carpaccio and could barely find it beneath the greens heaped on top of it. Thought I received a salad instead. Rack of lamb fatty and gamey. Never wrote a bad review before. Very disappointed!

Bottagra continues to execute at the highest level in dining. They understand their customers, treat them like family, and are truly concerned about their dining experience. Never dull and predictable, their specials continue to amaze. This is IT in dining for NJ.

Definitely advise making a reservation. Was very busy, but the staff seemed to keep up with the pace. Loved the food as usual. Cocktails were superb.

Upscale and beautiful interior - a lively and spirited happening crowd on a Saturday night. Service and wine selection went above and beyond. Our server Joe was personable and on his game. Can’t wait to go back.

Perfect for every night dining with the family or for date night. Food was served in large portions, came out at the perfect time, and tasted amazing. The staff did their job and beyond. Would highly recommend. Saw larger rooms for parties as well.

We dined day after Valentine’s Day and everything was fantastic ...We shared the pizza special for appetizer which was one the best pizzas I’ve had in NJ area. My girlfriend had the swordfish (so fresh) and i had the braised beef short ribs with sun dried tomato and goat cheese polenta which was amazing.

P.S if you like Gin try their Premium Gin & Tonics which are made with all fresh ingredients served in a big glass with a bottle of tonic water on the side so u can add the table! Great touch! Beautiful presentation!

The food was delicious! I do wish, however, that the Valentine's Day Menu had more options. Very pricey for only one or two things I would/could eat. I would go back because the food is delicious on a regular night but may skip out on exclusive menus.

All sizzle and no steak. Food was expensive and mediocre at best. Veal Milanese was over cooked as was the Osso Bucco. I understand that it was Valentines Day so very busy. But I didn’t pay anything less for the lower standard of the food.

Valentine’s Day Diner was everything you could want in a great setting, not crowded, the service was very attentive but not pushy.

First time at this restaurant. I made a reservation for 4 people at 5:15 on a Sunday. When we arrived at the restaurant we were seated in a small room right off the entrance to the restaurant. Disappointed the dining room was not available. Although the room was not what we expected the food was over the top excellent!!

Everything was fine except the outrageous $9 charge for home made seltzer water. Basically being charged for Tap Water.

Excellent food, impeccable service and lovely ambiance marred by an incredibly annoying noise level. The noise was so pervasive that it was difficult to hear our companion across a table for four. Go when is is not mobbed- EG Sunday through Friday.

Food and service great. Only issue was the space between tables. Wait staff constantly hit the chairs squeezing through tables. Hard for staff and a bit much for guests. Food was great.

Bottagra is as good as it gets. No reason to go to NYC when you have food of this quality in NJ. Creative, exceptional meals served by a friendly, attentive staff , that remembers your name. Great drinks and great conversation with the bartenders makes this a “Cheers” like restaurant environment. Add in Alex and Alexa who great you with a smile, and Angie who treats you like family, and you can’t go anywhere else

Came in with friends. I've been here a couple times and it only gets better. The service is wonderful, they are knowledgeable of the menu and wine list, always a mouth-watering special offered tableside and home-made cocktails that don't skimp on the booze. Wish could come more often. I originally came in after reading online reviews and write-ups in the paper, but now I come back for the food and atmosphere that makes me feel very welcome. Great for dates and, like most recently, just to hang out with some friends for good food and drinks.

I didn't select anything above cause I would recommend for all this is my forth time here and has become my favorite place to go for a night out this last time was for my birthday my wife Thomasina made the reservations for us and my best friend and his girl friend and we all loved the drink specials and food I cant wait for valentines day to go back with my wife.

We chose Bottagra to celebrate the four January birthdays in our family. We were a party of 7 with reservations for 6 PM. Three members of our party were quite late, yet Bottagra was quite accommodating serving us drinks while we waited at the table. I mention this because many restaurants will not even seat you if your entire party is not there.
We then ordered app( tuna crisis, soup, salad - all good). Our entrees - salmon, pasta, chicken, shrimp, were also good. I do wish there were better specials to choose from as none appealed to me and I ordered from the regular menu.
Our desserts caused a bit of a problem. We had a long wait for our desserts to arrive which was strange. My son and I ordered the coconut sorbet. I ended up with one scoop of lemon sorbet and one scoop of coconut gelato. My son only got lemon sorbet. When we informed the waiter he offered us a replacement, but we opted to have the charges removed from the bill.
All in all it was a nice dinner, but I will probably choose another restaurant for our next celebration.

We have eaten at Bottagra's a few times and each visit has been wonderful. The staff is exceptional. We have never had anyone that isn't great at what they do. We will be returning and have been recommending this restaurant to our friends and family.
