Went there with work friends to celebrate the holidays. Everyone had a great time. Four out of the five ordered the steak special, which was the top part of the rib eye. The fifth person ordered the filet. Everyone thought the meat was cooked to prefect. Excited to go again.
The steaks (prime & choice) were not as tender and flavorful as I expected. But overall the service and ambience was nice and not too pretentious. The restaurant had a nice local feel..
We were 10 minutes early for our reservation and were directed to the bar, where we stood in the way of the servers and had a drink. Our table was ready 40 minutes after our reservation time. A member of the staff apologized. The food was really good, except our pop overs were ice cold in the middle , but they brought us new hot ones.
My friend and I wanted to try a steak house in Boston for my birthday dinner. The menu provides such variety, even though it's clear they specialize in steaks. I was excited to learn that they butcher a lot (or all) of the steaks they offer on the menu in house -- this is not as common and makes a HUGE difference in the quality of the steak served. The bread service was not typical either -- popovers, which was awesome! They were so light and airy. Melanie was our server who is fabulous. She was very knowledgeable and helped to suggest a specific cut and sides that were perfect. Of course, I have a feeling we'd be pleased with anything we ordered - it was delicious and one of the best steak dinners I've ever had. We didn't make a big deal that it was my birthday, but Melanie did hear that comment. So, when we ordered the sticky toffee pudding for dessert (which was the BEST i've ever had), it came out to the table with "happy birthday" written in chocolate on the dish and a candle :) It was an unexpected surprise and very thoughtful! The entire night was fantastic and the overall experience and quality of food was amazing for the value in the South End of Boston!! Highly recommend!!
Excellent! Came here based on a recommendation of a friend and he was exactly right. Wonderful ambience, exceptional service, fantastic food and oh, the martini's!
Honey wine steak, piece of heaven
Outstanding !!! Service impeccable, our waiter was knowledgeable and offered recommendations. We will definitely go back.
Excellent food and ambiance
I generally enjoy Chops. On Sunday, however, my steak was cooked to my friend's request and vice versa. The waiter offered a re-do, but our timing did not allow for this. Also, both steaks were listed as 8 oz, but the NY Strip was about half the size of the tenderloin. There's only so much you can say to the waiter before threatening the mood of the evening. I expect better of Chops.
Server was attentive and had great recommendations. Food was delicious! Looking forward to returning soon.
Food and atmosphere were very good. Steaks were all cooked perfectly and service was topnotch.
Dinner was excellent. If you are looking for a good steak dinner and not interested in the high end national chain restaurants, Boston Chops is for you!
This is a high end neighborhood venue that delivers exceptional quality.
Outstanding service and the food was even better ! Really special experience
Wonderful food and great service. The wine list is extensive. I accidently left my credit card there and the restuarant called me on my way back to my hotel. So much better than a chain steak house.
The wait staff was quite good. For price, steak was tasty but too tough (rib eye!). Sides excellent. Drinks ok. Location is great. It was definitely ok. Maybe another time it would be better?
Food was excelent, service was exceptional. Both Melonee, our server, and Johna, the Somlier were very nice and treated us like family.
Great tasty food. Elite service.
Everything was excellent! Service, food, drinks and ambience all A+
The staff is excellent. The food was very god but very pricey.
Service was fantastic! I had requested a quiet table and they were able to honor the request. Most of the group had steak and two enjoyed the lobster tail. Food was great and wine list was just as nice.
Food was delicious as always, and this time the staff went above and beyond to help us celebrate our special occasion. Really appreciated it and highly recommend.
Food outstanding, server outstanding. Probably in the top tier of "meat" restaurants. Their signature porterhouse amazing, melts in your mouth.
Our group had a wonderful time at Boston Chops. As I have experienced in past visits, the food was excellent and the service was terrific. I look forward to visiting Boston Chops again!
We were celebrating our friends 10th Wedding Anniversary, and Boston Chops was the perfect place. Good food, great wines and all of the staff were very attentive. The sommelier suggested a couple of wonderful wines, the waiter really knew his steaks, and the meal was topped off by a wonderful set of desserts.
Due to the cost, this is not an everyday restaurant, but if you want to step things up a notch, this a perfect venue in the South End.
Food was excellent and fresh. The service was fantastic.
We tried Boston Chops for Thanksgiving this year. It was one of the few places where they offered their entire menu along with a Thanksgiving option. The food was great - best gravy I've ever had. We opted to go with one Thanksgiving portion and then a steak w/side option and share it all -- it was great! So much to try and everything was very good. It's a bit pricey for an every night kind of thing. Haven't tried sitting at the bar yet but the bar did look very inviting. The space is beautiful. The only thing I'd say they could work on are the cocktails.... some were good otherwise a bit boring. I think they have the talent they just need to figure a few things out.
Very nice Thanksgiving dinner with my wife and son…our server was outstanding!!!!
I made a reservation for my party of 3 on Thanksgiving at Boston Chops and the meal was very good overall. NY Strip was excellent, perfectly cooked. Veal was also excellent. Filet Mignon was not as good, 1/3 fat and just not a good piece of beef in any fine restaurant. Service was excellent. Valet parking was $18 plus tip. Good meal but for $300, I was disappointed and will probably look for another holiday dinner option in the future.
The food was delicious. I had to organize a family dinner for my parents, cousin and my wife, and had to find something for everyone to enjoy. Boston Chops did not disappoint. While there was a nice variety of steaks, the restaurant also offered great options for those who weren't in the mood for steak (my mother had the halibut, my cousin had the pork chop and my father had the veal).
As a red-blooded, meat-eating Italian man, I of course ordered the prime bone-in rib-eye. But my bravado was quickly tempered when my wife ordered me to share with her! Well, I know where my bread is buttered, so I obliged. I was glad I did. There was plenty for both of us (she was right, as always. When will I ever learn?). We enjoyed it so much - particularly as the dish was perfectly cooked medium rare (nice red center). Our drinks were flavorful (especially the Elixir of Life), and our waiter Joshua was really accommodating.
Staff from entry to exit is superb
Loved my dinner and dessert. The waited gave us great drink recommendations and was attentive of us through out the night. Great service, great food, and overall great experience.
The food was good.
Hi there. I'm a restaurant frequenter and an avid diner in and around Boston for the past 30 years, and though I do check reviews sometimes, I think I've never taken the time to actually write one myself. But this place deserves the effort. I'm all about good food and good service and this place really delivered on both. The hostess accommodated my seating request that I wrote in the reservation, and our waitress, Pamela, was outstanding: caring, personable, and attentive. She was able to help with dietary restrictions that I have to work around. We were waited on by no less than six different people at various points during the meal. One of my pet peeves is when you finally need service no one's around. This was certainly not the case. But at the same time, nobody was hovering, interrupting, or bothering us. It was just the right amount of attention. The food was incredible. I think it was the best thing I had in my life. My boyfriend had the pork chop and was delighted. The sides were wonderful and the dessert was as well. There is a din, but we were seated next to a half wall that really took care of the noise, so we were able to converse easily, despite it being full on a Saturday night.
My boyfriend has very high standards for his food --and though we've had many wonderful meals together in the past couple of years we both felt that this was truly outstanding. And though we like to keep trying new places, we are certainly looking forward to coming back to this one again soon! We give it an 11 out of 10 :)
Chris Coombs (exec.chef-owner) has done an extraordinary job.
Celebrated our anniversary. Everything was wonderful. All of the food was amazing. Great service. Good wine list. Surprised they don't offer any sort of anniversary celebration perk (dessert, drink or anything at all.)
For starters, our server Melanie was a superstar. She was not only knowledgeable but also passionate about her work and a true asset to any restaurant. The braised heart, ceviche, oysters, and steaks were nothing short of perfect. Thanks to Chris and his staff for making another wonderful restaurant memory for us.
Service and all staff are great.
Food was prepared well, the Ceviche is excellent.
Extensive wine list and tasty cocktails.
Like most Steak Houses the main dish looks lonely on the plate..... I ordered the NY Strip 14oz and while it was cooked properly and seasoned nicely it did seem a bit shy on size.
Great Sunday Brunch. Party of six where our server was helpful, attentive, funny and really good at what he does. Was able to take one participants request for "non-jiggle" eggs with a great sense of humor and the eggs were perfect.
Thumbs down dissappointment. Pork belly mac and cheese is a nasty blend of cheeses with a single nugget of over cooked pork belly in the middle. The French fries are equivalent of McDonald's and the food and wine cover shot ribeye way over priced was a fail as it was a bad cut that left half on the plate as nothing but fat, and I've had numerous ribeye steaks in my life. Boston has wayyyy better choices for steak dinners especially the know nationwide chains.
We decided to try out Boston Chops after reading the reviews. We were such in the mood for an awesome steak! The waiter was very good and recommended the best steaks. My husband had a bone in filet and I had a top choice ribeye. They were good but not great especially for the prices. I would say it was a good place but not one that I would run back to immediately.
Hello Boston chops. I want to thank you for making my boyfriends birthday dinner something he will always remember. Melanie our server was gracious knowledge able and very helpful. The food was absolutely delicious and very creative in flavors. We look forward to many more dinners with you.
