BosphoRus Ratings and Reviews
Was very happy they were open during a recent snow storm as it's very close to our house. We had the Mediterranean Salad and Hummus to start with warm pita bread. I had the seafood special of mixed shellfish with veggies & cous cous in a light flavorful tomato sauce. My husband had the Lamb Shwarma which was delicious. We also tried the Turkish wine which was surprisingly good as well. We were happy to have a great meal in a nearby restaurant
We loved the food here, we ordered the 2 specials - lamb steaks came with little rice and fried potatoes and the mixed seafood platter, this came with a small portion of couscous but good amount of seafood. Service was good, the server did not come to distrub us too often like it usually happens in restuarants here but whenever, we needed anything they would magically appear! Will go here again!
I went to Bosphorus with my boyfriend for our anniversary, and we absolutely loved it! The food was authentic and delicious, and the service was fantastic. The decor and ambiance provided a special atmosphere for our date night. Will definitely be dining here again, highly recommend it!
Was more satisfied in the past with this restaurant than on my recent experience. Must be new menu (??)... prices were VERY high for the quality. $22.00 for a vegetarian entree!! Not to mention the super-expensive falafel (nothing special about it to warrant the $$$.) Service not great although the owner did stop by to chat . Some entrees were brought to the table at least 15-20 minutes before others so dining very uneven. Do not plan to return.
The Mucver (zucchini pancakes) were over done and dry. The spinach rolls were very good.
The Hunkar Begendi and baby lamb chops were really delicious.
While the felafel plate was tasty, it should really be an appetizer. $21 for felafel balls over humus is a joke. $5-$8 would be more appropriate.
Very good service, nice and quiet so you can have a conversation. Overall, the food mostly very good.
Eleven of us went out to celebrate my mom's birthday. My kids are vegetarians and it's always hard to find a place my mom will like, because she's very critical and my kids will like. Well everyone liked their meal. We had good service and everyone was happy.
Recently dined here on a Saturday night and was initially surprised that it was not overflowing. Anyway, it was about 70% full at 8 pm. and we were greeted and seated right away. Drink orders were promptly taken and we ordered without delay. The appetizers arrived quickly and they were good. The fried phyllo with feta and the zucchini pancake were interesting and we really enjoyed the phyllo-nice and tasty and warm. The zucchini pancake almost seemed like it was eggplant-still tasty, just not what we expected. We shared the lamb shish kebab which was cooked to medium rare-just what we wanted and it was flavorful and warm.
We enjoyed the baklava for dessert-nice and light and tasty.
The service was quite attentive throughout the meal. Will definitely return again.
We have enjoyed going to Bosphorus for years. We love the consistency of the food. Our favorites are the chicken kabob (which is always moist and never dry), the lamb ish kandar, Jerusalem salad, and the babaganush. The hummus is required and the pita bread always warm and soft. yum. We have tried other dishes and they are also quite good. I would avoid the Turkish wine. We have tried it and have had better. The entree sizes have gotten smaller, which suits us fine, and they need to stay in business.
We had an enjoyable and delicious dinner. The waiter was from Turkey and a great help in selecting our choices. We had the warm appetizer platter with a couple of small plates. Everything was excellent. We especially liked the stuffed grape leaves and the filo spinach rolls. Our entre we split the whole trout which was cooked perfectly. We had the rice pudding for dessert with the traditional apple tea reminiscent of our trip to Turkey a few years ago. We will return!
We have been to Bosphorus several times, but this time was more fun and relaxing. It could have been the cold kept many people indoors and home, so the dining room was more empty than not. Not being able to decide between two wines, the the waitress suggested a tasting, which helped immediately to get it right. The dishes are can't miss, with a Turkish twist to familiar dishes from other Mediterranean cuisines, with portions equal to a healthy appetite.
We'll be back, for a slow, quiet, enjoyable evening out, this is a local gem.
Food is great and the service is very welcoming. Able to have nice conversations without noise. Try the zucchini fritters and the doner kebab. Cannot wait to return and try other dishes. Also love that I don't have to travel to Manhattan to get some really decent Turkish food.
We always enjoy coming here and are genuinely mystified when this place is rarely crowded. The owner is super friendly, helpful, and is a great example for the entire staff. He is quick to suggest food, bring out wine and other dishes too. I recommend the lamb iskendar (spelling) and the chicken kebob. The meats are grilled well and very consistent. Jerusalem Salad and the Babaganush are always good too. This most recent time on Friday night there were two large dinner parties and the place was nearly full and we got our food and drinks served in a timely fashion as usual.
The food is good but the wait service is sub par and inattentive. They automatically add 20% gratuity for a party of 5 or more, which is rude and an imposition given their lack of standards in customer and waiting service. I suspect due to this automatic addition of gratuity, the wait staff doesn't care about providing adequate service to large parties.
I'll not be taking large groups to this establishment due to this policy of theirs. We are a family of four and took my wife's parents for a birthday dinner.
