Not your Dutchman's Rijsttafel
Disappointing. Granted, my date is Dutch and I have been to the Netherlands several times, so we know what Indonesian food/Rijsttafel should be. Still, only a couple of the dishes were really tasty, including the spring rolls. We ordered the Roti based on reviews but were unimpressed. Service was pretty good.
With all of the choices in the area, we won't be back.
Great find in San Francisco, never had Indonesian food before and it delish
We had never eaten Indonesian food before and we were absolutely delighted with our meal. We had the most delicious deep fried tofu I have ever eaten. The beef rendang was exquisite. We also had a wonderful spicy green bean dish. Everything was great and very moderately priced. Will definitely go back!
There were a couple of high notes such as the lime coconut soup and roti with curry sauce but all the other dishes we had were just okay. I probably would not go there again. The amount of food was very generous.
dishes are good. unbelievable.
We love coming to this place. Glad it was near our theater so we had an excuse to return for a holiday get-together with friends. Even my vegan friend was pleased!
The Indonesian food is very authentic and tastes great. Good value for money as well
I had high hopes based on an (albeit old) review on Check Please Bay Area. Reserving online was easy. Called the restaurant to let them know that we were going to be a few minutes late due to rain/traffic delays and they were very kind on the phone and very welcoming when we arrived. Atmosphere was warm and pleasant. Service was attentive. The meal started out promising with crispy lumpia spring rolls and flaky roti; however, the remainder of the meal (the Rijsttafel) was very mediocre except for the beef stew, which was delicious. Bathroom was very dirty, which was quite a turn off as well. I am not compelled to return.
The service was really good. Had multiple people tending to us. The food was quick and very good. Bathroom was pretty low budget, and the lighting could be better.
Overall good. Only Service slow ...no welcome....left over food need to pack yourself ....after done no thank you. Even 20% tip. But we do not mind and will go back again. Good price.
Fantastic food and a great value.
Food always delicious and consistent. Service a little lagging but always friendly.
Excellent Indonesian food in a quiet setting just off Union Square. The Roti Prata is amazing!
Authentic Indonesian food, friendly waiter. Good flavor but not too spicy. Large portions in the entrees.
Always Great food and nice people there. I will come back.
A GOOD PLACE FOR A DELICIOUS FAMILY STYLE FLAVORFUL MEAL.
Good introduction in Indonesian food. Good casual, family style shared entrees. Great combination of flavors and spiciness.
Food was great! I will definitely go back.
Excellent Indonesian food, spiced just right for us. Servers were friendly and helpful. We will return.
Fantastic, engaging and helpful service. Food and atmosphere was delightful. Bathroom needed attention but thumbs up otherwise.
Really friendly service; would recommend to anyone
Be well- we love all you do.
Healthy food, very good quality eggplant with tofu, fish cakes and hot sauce!!!
Always great food, friendly service, cozy and quiet. One of my favorite restaurant in SF.
Great food! Always a pleasure to come back here. Good customer service.
The traditional ristaffel that is an Indonesian specialty was something we were looking for but they only had one option, not a vegetarian option which I was hoping for. Three in our group had the basic one with meat and they liked it very much. There were quite a few good vegetarian options including the curry vegetables and peanut sauce items. They could up the peanut favor in their sauce. Otherwise it was good.
The food were good with a taste of authenticity of Indonesian cooking . Menu lists are not hard to understand being a Filipino I find some similarities . The prices are reasonable. I would consider dropping by for a meal on my next visit to San Francisco
They don't seem to care if you have a res from open table and will make you wait. I think walk in have priority. Service is lacking and they tend to be pushy when you place an order asking you to order more.
If you love Indonesian food than this is the place to go in SF. I recognize the great flavors from my mom's cooking and the experience with the rijstafel from the Netherlands. Great selection on the menu. The rijstafel for two is a great dining experience.
Food was excellent - like others before us, we found the roti, the beef stew, and the honey chicken to be absolutely fabulous. We will defintely come here again. BTW - our service was very good - attenetive and very informative and helpful.
First visit for all three of us, but won't be the last. Small place, so reservation essential; filled up fast! The lumpia appetizer was so good we placed a 2nd order. The honey chicken-out of this world. Both naksi and bami goreng tasty. Service very friendly and accommodating.
Still can improve on taste, creativity and size - I would have to learn how to order as $17 for a few shrimps that have no sauce is not good - I would have gone to Bumba Gump Shrimp! or read lobster.
Excellent Indonesian food, great service. Rijsttafel was excellent
I eat here frequently. Most of the time the service is pretty good but on occasion they have servers who have difficulty communicating and are some how confused . The service in general is pretty slow. The food is amazing and that makes the service issues less important.
We saw this place on Check Please Bay Area and thought we would give it a try. Their were 4 of us us dining and we LOVED it and will be back! Our very nice waiter recommended #1, #20, #47 (+others I cant remember...) which were all delicious. #1 bread and the #?? pot roast-ish meat dish were our top faves. Our bill was $120 including tip and one beer each for 4 of us. Great place all around!
I used to live in Amsterdam - a city known for its Indonesian food. I've been craving Indonesian every since - and was very excited to learn of this restaurant. Unfortunately, the food pales in comparison. It came across as a 'watered-down' version of the real thing. No where near as vibrant in taste as I remembered. I was quite disappointed (and so was my friend, whom I raved to about Indonesian food). Sorry I don't have a glowing recommendation - I was hoping to write one.
Service was attentive enough. Thank you for this!
It's a great little place with excellent Gado Gado. An absolute bargain in this city.
We went for dinner. I ordered the eggplant and tofu which I liked. My husband got the mixed plate with honey beef ...one piece and a bit tough, the size of a credit card, fresh veggies garmish, and a small piece of chicken. The honey beef got good reviews..that's why we got it. I would return but order something different. I was expecting better.
This restaurant was very convenient, and the "greeter" was warm and welcoming. Interior was fine for a casual Asian restaurant. Two diners, one meal good, the other, not so much. The whole grilled trout was fine, but a salmon dish in a sauce tasted as if it had been sitting for hours. I SHOULD have sent it back, but really couldn't be bothered. We started with veg dumplings and they were fine. Brought our own wine and there was a $10 corkage fee.
I have been a regular for Borobudur. Never been disappointed. Not this time as well. We loved every time we ordered.
Not the same Borobudur visited many years ago. OK Lumpia and Fish Cake; Mediocre Lamb Curry and fair soup. Nice ambiancce
