Great to see a different Asian restaurant. Indonesian style is not very common but if you ask me one of the finest cuisines of Asia.
Ordered the “rijsttafel” (rice table). All soort of small dishes. Order 2 to share with 3-4 people.
Good food, service ok. Ambiance is indonesian.
We will come back.
we visit san Francisco every other year or so - always make our way to this restaurant. I think the quality of the food has changed. Indonesian food is our favorite - but now it feels like they have lost their edge. the gado gado was drenched in peanut sauce - way too much. the sate was not very good, the other dishes were too salty. it lost some of the freshness...still great concept but re-think the freshness factor
Great service but the food was not very good. Tough meat pieces, and disappointing Rijsttafel ("a complete Indonesian rice table dinner").
Waiter was very helpful in getting through an unfamiliar menu, with lots of explanations and suggestions. Food we ordered was delicious, lots of unfamiliar spices and combinations. Although some dishes are listed as starters, some mains, as in many Asian restaurants, service and kitchen does not differentiate so clearly. Before one knows it ,new dishes are arriving apace and-whoops- no more space on table. Waiters suggested combining remnants of first courses so plates could disappear. Effective but suboptimal! Will return.
Very tasty dishes with lots of vegetarian options. We really enjoyed dining at this restaurant.
There was plenty of food to eat. Different dishes for sharing. When they brought each dish description was given so we knew what was in it. Overall the taste was excellent, not too salty. We ended up taking some to go. We ordered the first set on the menu for four people which we should just have ordered for 2 or 3 persons since there was so much food.
Horrible experience on Sunday . It was my husband’s birthday and Fathers Day! The food was below average, very noisy and there was one waiter serving all the tables. He missed our orders but somehow added to the total. Overall experience was absolutely horrible. Please don’t suggest such restaurants in your site. Next time, I’ll be extra cautious
The setting was very nice but the food was uneven. There were 5 of us and we shared 2 ristaffels and some additional dishes. One additional dish, the salmon, was not good. The salmon did not taste fresh. The beef was especially good and the other dishes were fine. We ate early so it wasn't crowded and was nicely quiet. Service was good and friendly.
The food was just okay. Very disappointed with the chicken satay as it was cubes of chicken that were so uniform that they must be purchased that way and cooked in the kitchen instead of hand carved chicken strips. The peanut sauce was bland. The Roti was doughy and the accompanying curry dipping sauce was also bland. Servers were friendly but slow as it took 15 minutes to get our beverages. Too many customers for 2 servers.
We loved the light at 6pm in the spring. The stew was great and so were our other choices. I would go back. The staff was very attentive and helpful!
really underrated place, awesome indonesian food for a good price
Spicy and pretty close to authentic Indonesian flavors. Basic decor. There was only one pleasant but overworked server on duty the Saturday we were there for lunch so I can’t speak to service at any other time, but we weren’t in a rush so we enjoyed ourselves. It was good to be able to order Tiger from from my hometown Singapore. 😊
I’d go back the next time I’m in San Francisco.
Food is fantastic though a little slow coming out. It's worth the wait.
I ordered the set menu thinking it would be fastest. But it took one hour for the first dish to come out, And the food was mediocre. The rice desert though was good.
Lovely food. I think our lunch visit was an off day... opened almost 20 mins late, food arrived in waves (our beef rendang ahead of nasi goreng), waitress brought our drinks after our food. This said, the food was a momentary return to Bali, complete with the spicy ginger tea I still dream of 15 years later.
The food was delicious, we ordered family style. The service was a little slow but not terrible.
I have a quick lunch and the food was good. I like spicy food and it was good level of spicy.
While food was very delicious, service was poor. They were very understaffed for a weekend evening. The food service was very poor with dishes being serve one at a time. There was an hour delay or more for our food to come to the table.
First experience with Indeonesian cuisine. My friends & I really enjoyed it. Highly recommend Borobudur.
Great food and service, lovely atmosphere, interesting menu choices. The soup with chicken and rice noodles was delicious!! BBQ Prawns in ginger and honey was spicier than I had expected but excellent. The chicken satay was ok, not as flavorful as I've had elsewhere. I would definitely come here again!
The most unfriendly miserable service. Fodo was really below average for the price. I love Indonesian food and the location is great, but will absolutely not eat here again.
It didn’t quite live up to what our friends who recommended it said it would be. It was tasty and nicely cooked but just not great/wow.
It would be fine for casual dinner if you’re longing for that Indonesian taste.
Not so good taking out of town friends who are rather foodie/picky.
Th food quality including ingredients was not very good.
Service was odd. Drink order was slow, dinner came soon after appetizers, and dinner for three was delivered separately. We did not eat together rather each of us got to watch each other eat.
we enjoyed our meal tho the service was kind of slow. the paratha were delicious, but a bit oily. the coconut rice was very good and the noodle dish. skip the lamb dish
Excellent food - we shared the lumpia, the roti prata and the steamed chicken dumplings. All were excellent. I enjoyed the rendang for my entree, which was sort of like an Indonesian beef stew. The only negative was that we sat for a little bit too long (about 10 minutes) without anyone coming to take an appetizer or drink order.
I will definitely go back.
Great food, not too loud. I would definitely return!
I was excited about having rijsttafel, but it was disappointing compared to what we had had in Amsterdam. I would recommend going a la carte and selecting other Indonesian dishes. Service was also lackluster.
Service was lackluster, but I’d expected that from reading the reviews. The food was decent however. The Mei Goreng was very tasty and we had some chicken in coconut sauce that stood out. The eggplant tofu dish wasn’t anything to rave about. Overall a decent value if you can get past the service.
That is my 3st time for dinner here , like Indonesian food I never found other similar one.
The team are perfect
It was an awesome experience. I had friends from Argentina and Russia. They enjoyed the food very much.
Love the water spinach and garlic dish. Am vegan and there are plenty of vegan options in the menu.
Very nice place, not too crowded. Rendang was a little oily but very tender and delicious. Also recommend the salted fish fried rice.
The food, Indonesian, was not what we have much access to as we live in the Midwest. It was delicious! And the portions were generous! The ambiance was not fancy, but it was comfortable and very welcoming. The staff was very kind.
We have eaten at Borobudur on numerous occasions. It is perfect for a pre-Theater meal, and it’s always good. Service is usually pretty quick, although it can bog down slightly if the restaurant is busy. The decor is also interesting, with a lot of eye-catching wood carvings and other Indonesian art work.
Been here a lot when we visit SF. his time seemed understaffed. Also no real choice of wines
The food is terrific and we will be back
Both my parents were born and raised in Indonesia. Consequently, Indonesian cuisine was the food of my youth. Its flavors and aromas are highly evocative of countless fond memories of family gatherings and celebrations throughout my life. Borobudur hits that nail on the head every single time. Delicious food, friendly service. Love this place.
Fab food and great dinner for 2 value
The rijstafel was the best way to taste 10 different items/dishes. Suprising was the price difference between internet sites, and even the outside menu. But the requested, and highest price, was on the table menu.
we stopped for lunch, kind of last minute pick. It was great ! food was awesome, very authentic. the service was a bit slow, but we didn't mind, for the food made up it.
