Border Grill – Mandalay Bay Ratings and Reviews
We ate at this restaurant 3 years ago when we stayed in Vegas, and LOVED IT! Unfortunately, however, this most recent trip was less than satisfactory. Three of the four of us ordered off the waiter's recommendations, 2 had the pork tacos, while I had the shrimp dish. I will say, this is the first time ever I've been asked about food allergies, so I naively said I had a lactose intolerance. After an uncomfortable back-and-forth trying to explain exactly what causes me problems, the waiter said he'd just avoid "dairy." So, my shrimp dish, that was supposed to be sautéed in butter, instead tasted like boiled shrimp and unseasoned rice. The pork tacos, which I loved on the first visit, also seemed to have gone downhill. Disappointed.
It was a pleasant weekend so we began sitting outside, but the Pink Phloyd cover band was too noisy coming from the pool. Upon mentioning that we were promptly moved inside. We were all impressed with our dinners: grilled fish tacos, kobe beef tacos, 16 oz steak and a skirt steak. The deserts really impressed both the flourless chocolate cake and the puff pastry pie. We will come back again and send our friends as well.
We were looking for a good Mexican for our last night in Las Vegas and the Border Grill's name kept coming up as highly recommended so we thought we would give it a try. So pleased we did as the food and ambience was amazing. We ran out of superlatives for the food. The guacamole with tacos was to die for and that was just the ore dinner nibbles. The service was great. I would highly recommend is restaurant.
We recently dined at Border Grill and actually made reservations just because we would always see tons of people waiting to get in after a convention so we thought it would be worth checking out. Wrong. I ordered the Carne Asada and the it was so salty. It cames with beans and corn. The corn was good but the beans were dry. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos and that came with rice and beans. First off, fish tacos usually have diced fish or similar, these fish tacos were whole pieces of filet. I guess that would be ok if it was cooked right, but these pieces were extremely dry. The beans and rice were also dry. It seems as if they let the plates sit under a heating light too long. We recommend the guacamole only. Sorry.
We went to Border Grill for brunch to celebrate my father's 73rd birthday. We were offered mimosas with our choice of juices - orange, watermelon, pomegranate, etc... The plates were tapas style and the menu had a large variety. The best thing we had was the steak and eggs. The meat was tender and the egg was perfectly cooked (sunny side up). Another must have is the churros. They are amazing! The service was a little chilly at first, but our server warmed up to us and was a delight by the end of our visit. My only concern was that the restaurant has two floors and we had to go downstairs to be seated. Luckily, there was an elevator available to take my parents down. Overall, nice decore, friendly staff and delicious food and drink.
The staff could not have been nicer here. We didn't care for the food, but that was our own personal taste. The staff however did their best to please us and we certainly appreciated their concern. If you like that type of food- you would be more than happy here.
This place was great for a client lunch! Was easy to book a reservation and the staff was very professional, attentive, friendly, and efficient. Food was upscale mexican dining. Very delicious! Senic views of Mandalay pool from the patio dining area and the noise level on the patio was low so it was easy to talk with your company. Have been going here for the last 3 years and will be back next year!
I come here every year for convention and the Border grill is convinient place to have lunch at Mandalay Bay convention center. The food went down the hill from last year. WE had fish and shrimp and tacos, fish(mahi mahi) was better than shrimp(shrimp smelled bad and it looked old and overcooked) Rice was cold as if it came from the box and the food arrived 5 min after we ordered it, felt like Mc Donalds mass produced. Not very impressed!!
This is a great Mexican restaurant that great athentic food. The food really has a depth of flavor and passion in it.
The service is friendly and welcoming, big gold star for the staff. The seating is a little tight but it's in a casino so that's understandable. Expect to pay 75 to 100 dollars for a couple which is not bad if you compare Border Grill to other locations on the strip.
Great food. Service good. Had to sit by kitchen even though other tables available. Noisy--plates and employees, so more activity than I would have liked fora romantic evening. Pork & skirt steak was amazing, as were the margaritas and guacamole. We tried but didn't like the peanut butter-bacon dessert, which was a surprise. Nice time overall.
The menu had depth and variety. The food was excellent, service was attentive, and price was about right for a Vegas hotel.
Outdoor dining was ok but over looking the hotel's water park and a busy weekend day,..yikes. However seems like a great spot for late night dinner or cocktails.
I have dined here many times and it is a fantastic casual dining spot. Food is always good and serving sizes are generous. The staff is always on the ball, very responsive to special requests including items not on the menu. Wait staff has always been friendly, quick with suggestions and easy to access. For outdoor dining they have a covered patio overlooking the pool at Mandalay Bay.
I dined here with a group of ladies in town for a birthday party. We took advantage of endless tapas and bottomless mimosas for a Saturday brunch. We had such a great time trying all the food and drinks together. There were about 40 small plate dishes and 10 flavors of mimosas to choose from. I think we tried the whole menu and were there for over 2 hours! The price was great ($34.99) for the experience we had. I will definetely come back here and have the brunch again.
The food here is to die for. I don't think I have never ordered something and said "meh." The seasonal vegetable enchilada is so good I ordered it twice during two separate visits. I also loved the mole and the guacamole is not to be missed. The wait staff is so friendly and make excellent recommendations. I never feel like they are pushing the most expensive thing, that they truly want you to enjoy your time and food. This is a can't miss stop for any vegas visitor.
Yum. This place isn't for those who want a typical taco or Mexican dish... This place offers a taste sensation! Very pricey but food is really high quality and unique. I bought the cookbook hoping to replicate in some small way some of the dishes we tried. The server we had in Las Vegas (Jeff) was friendly, efficient and helpful. I'm excited to learn there are also some restaurants I the Los Angeles area.
First visit to Border Grill. We had reservations, got there early and didn't wait long. Loved the chips and salsa they brought to the table. We also got the guaccomole dip, and the chorizzo/cheese dip. Both were awesome, and I really loved the tortia's that came with the chorizzo/cheese dip. I had the Chicken and Mole, which was different from my mother-inlaws (she is hispanic). It was very good, just not very much mole sauce on it at all. I would have liked it to have more sauce on it. I also tried one of thier margarita's and it was okay. I didn't try what anyone else had at our table, but they all said thier food was good. I would go there again, but would want to try something made with the wonderful tortia's they have.
The Border Grill is one of my favorites but this was the first time we tried the Brunch. I didn't think my opinion of the Border Grill could get any higher but they hit it out of the park. The food was fantastic! Each dish was made to order and the flavors were amazing. We will definitely go back.
The Border Grill exceeded expectations on our recent Vegas trip. We were greeted and treated warmly by all members of the service team. Our waiter offered excellent suggestions without being pushy and was very attentive despite the restaurant being full. The main reason to try The Border Grill is the food. We had the guacamole to start and it was obviously freshly made. Next came the Ceviche Duo which is a combination serving of the traditional Baja Ceviche and the Peruvian Ceviche. Both were delicious and fresh but very different in flavor. We tried the special Duck Confit Enchiladas and were amazed at the balance of the succulent duck and the spicy tart flavors of the sauce. One of the more memorable bites in a food filled three day trip
Food here was innovative and very tasty. Unique selections on menu like lobster pancakes, Peruvian shrimp and grits, Yucatan eggs benedict and skirt steak and egg all were delicious. The service here was excellent - bottomless mimosas offered unique flavors like watermelon and rosemary, pomegranate, as well as the old tried and true strawberry and peach. Great brunch experience for couples.
Everything about our Sunday brunch exceeded our expectations! Paris our server was simply a treasure. Very knowledgeable about the menu , sweet and funny and fast with the mimosas! Speaking of the many flavours of mimosas offered..YUM! The small plates for brunch were perfect for sharing and trying everything. there were so many favorites... Bread pudding, enchiladas, chiliquiles, shimp dish... that's just to mention a few, The only one we were not fond of was the short rib one. Nothing was overly hot or overspiced, but everything was very tasty. We will be sure to make this a "must do" while in Vegas from now on
Went here with another couple. Has a "mall restaurant" feel to it. Full windows, but it is designed with a large wall blocking the entire patio/window- why??? Hard wooden chair that make you sit at an awkward angle. One pitcher of margaritas was $70. The queso appetizer was good, but my taquitos were literally being burped up the whole night. Only way I can describe the waitress is "snobby". She repeatedly told us it was a "celebrity chef" restaurant. who cares?? i just want good food. Bill for four, was $240, and food was mediocre at best. Will NEVER return.
