Border Grill – Mandalay Bay Ratings and Reviews
When I made my reservation at Border Grill, it was based on the location (we were going to see a show at Mandalay Bay later that evening and were looking for something nearby) and the menu descriptions I was able to read online. I was very excited to find out when we got there that this was a Susan Feniger restaurant. She was one of my favorite chefs on Top Chef Masters--her food always sounded and looked so fantastic. What I saw on TV was clearly not just for show. Our meals were absolutely fantastic. She has a way of elevating common Mexican dishes from ordinary to extraordinary...not sure how its done but I just know it was the best Mexican food I have ever had. The prices were very reasonable as well--an added bonus given the high quality of the food and generous portions!
We were celebrating a birthday and looking for a Mexican restaurant before a show. The salsa was delicious, we ordered guacamole and it was delicious, but dinner was just adequate.and portions small. We sat on the outdoor patio which was very loud and small.
Fun outdoor seating and excellent food! You are however required to walk down several steps to get to the "patio/pool side" outdoor seating. There was only one waitstaff - who was excellent but also had to work the bar. Should have more help in the outside seating area, especially at lunch. She managed it well however. Excellent food; a little pricey.
Food was decent for the upscale ambience and price. Our server was fantastic, and I'd come back often if I was a local, just for her. She was so friendly and cheerful with my fiancee and me, and really did a terrific job. It wasn't very busy while we were there so maybe she didn't feel as rushed/pressured, but she was wonderful all around. Give her a raise!
The service & meal were wonderful! I have but one gripe: The dessert I had trouble picking--there were several delicious-sounding options- -came out with completely different toppings than what was listed on the menu. It was still good, but not what I'd hoped for. When I asked about this discrepancy, our server said the chef was new so "the desserts come out different every time." So...that's pretty odd. I look forward to returning, though.
While the food is a little pricey, it is absolutely worth it for the flavor alone! Definitely be sure to sit on the patio if the weather permits, the seats are comfortable and well shaded with a poolside view. The chicken poblano enchiladas were a delight, full of bright flavors and not too spicy. I will definitely be back.
The food was outstanding. Good attentive services. However they had upstairs and downstairs dining rooms open but there were not very many people there. Spreading them out made it seem even more sparse. I didn't mind as we got good service but it was just odd.
Came here for bottomless brunch. This was Day 6 in Vegas and we have eaten at least 2 meals out daily and LITERALLY this was the best meal. Our server (Sarah) was amazing. The food was fantastic and so so so worth the price (which was underpriced). The mimosas were bottomless and not watered down. Skip VooDoo, Eggslut, secret pizza, Rabbit Rose Lie, and pretty much anywhere else and come here. Legit would come back here just for brunch every day.
Made a late lunch reservation at Border Grill during a major trade show. We were greeted professionally and seated promptly. The waitperson was very cordial and accommodating. Unfortunately, there was a snafu in the kitchen because it took a long time to be served our meals and some of us needed to get to appointments. The staff and management came out to apologize and offered a reasonable discount for the inconvenience. Great customer service and the food was excellent. Recommend you try it.
This place is convenient to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and that's both good and bad. It was packed when I went on Wed but I had 12:15 reservations so we were seated right away. They may have short on staff because it took so long to get our food I had to go looking for our waiter. It took 5 of us over 90 minutes to finish our lunch after we were seated. I've eaten here before without any issues and the food was very was good, but mine all came out cold this time so it wasn't good. The beans had even developed a thick skin on top. I was hosting a business lunch and it had taken so long already I didn't send it back or complain, I just didn't eat it. Disappointing.
We were disappointed because this was r third time and it didn't live up to r other visits. Food was pushed out too fast and they brought the entree before an appetizer we ordered. We just felt like we were being pushed. Too bad cause we really liked r other experiences.
I've been to this "high end" Mexican restaurant in one of the most upscale hotels/casinos in Las Vegas and expect much, much more from the food that was served. Portions were tiny for the money you pay, especially when Citizens Kitchen right down the hall can do so much better! For what is described as Mexican fare from a chef that has appeared on a national TV show, it was bland, bland, bland. I'm from Colorado and we have Mexican food that puts this "award winning" food to shame.......for half the price.
You can do better, really, you can.
