Border Grill – Mandalay Bay Ratings and Reviews
Border Grill was a bit expensive but considering the location and hotel probably not far off the mark. For 2 with 2 entrees', 2 cocktails a single side and shared desert was $95.00, before tip.
Why would I not recommend this restaurant has more to do with the fact they charged $1.00 for water without asking first and $0.75 for sour cream. I am not complaining about the money, but when the ticket is $95.00 the condiments should accompany the meal or noted as a la carte on the menu.
I understand margins may be tight in the restaurant business, but raise your menu prices $5.00 so you can provide generally common condiments to your guests. I have been to fast food restaurants that do not charge for catsup or mustard, but I must assume this location does based upon this experience. ( I suspect they don't, but making the point).
Stuck us in a corner with a sliding door by the bar which was very noisy. Had plenty of room to seat us somewhere that would have been nicer. Bus boy was more attentive then the waiter but he had been sweeping and his hands were all blue, which I would not think you would want him waiting on people with dirty hands. Waiter took forever to come take our order but was nice. Food was ok but chicken was dry. Hard to cut in the bowl they served it in as the bowl would tip when you tried to cut the meat
We absolutely loved our meal at Border Grill. We shared the seviche, the quinoa trio and the vegan enchiladas. They had separate vegan specials which I was happy to see. We opted for the enchiladas and they were excellent. The staff was wonderful. We originally wanted to sit outside but there was a noisy group out there so they moved us inside where it was quieter. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I will definitely go back there.
Food was tasty, if not staying at Mandalay don't bother....A few mistakes made by the waitress. We have dined here before and it was excellent, this time it was just ok. No validation for parking if you are coming from off property. That alone would keep me from returning....
Sunday brunch with friends while in Vegas. We all chose the brunch served tapas style and bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary’s. Our server was awesome and made sure orders were put in and brought out in a timely fashion. Drinks were refreshed regularly as well. We are going back for sure next time we visit Vegas.
Best Mexican on the Strip. There are lots of great Mexican restaurants in the Vegas area, but this one is the best on the Strip. Not just Tacos, although they have great tacos, but lots of unique dishes, veggie, GF, as well as pork and streak. Good drinks, good service.
Holy guacamole! This was our first visit and besides perfect weather to sit out on the patio, we could not believe how awesome the food was! Also our server Creighton was a great young man we could not have had a better time or recommend this place highly enough to Mexican food lovers!!!
Hostess was plain rude, waited 15 minutes for a two person table with reservations! Waiter was great food was great but frankly the rude hostess was a dealbreaker, indeed they were jammed due to the show however its your job to be pleasant in these situations, especially when you pay $20 for a enchilada.
Sorry but I cannot recommend them you could walk into the Mandalay Bay mall area ~ 5 minutes further walk and get away from the craziness and have a more pleasant experience
We have the weekend brunch here on every trip to Vegas, at the Mandalay Bay location. If you ask to be seated outdoors you will have nice views, especially on the downstairs patio. On the upstairs balcony they have heaters to keep you toasty on cold days in the winter. The brunch is all you can eat and they have a pretty decent list of small plates to order. Generally, you start with 2 small plates each and when those are finished you order more, as many as you want until you are full. The price is $38.99 per person which is on the pricy side (we never order more than 4 small plates each) but it's a fun experience. If you go to their website and sign up for their email list you can immediately print off a coupon for buy one, get one free entree which they also accept for the brunch. It's a great deal! Just don't print it out until the month you go because it expires at the end of the month you print it off. The food here is really great and definitely not chain restaurant type Mexican food. They put a lot of imagination into their dishes here. I only downgraded my star ratings for this trip for 2 reasons. 1. The food was not exactly hot (but not cold either) when it came out and 2. I'm pretty sure our waiter forgot to turn in our 2nd (and final) order because it took more than 20 minutes to come out. We asked him to check on it and he said he just had and that the kitchen was pretty backed up. Meanwhile, we watched plates and plates of food come to other tables that we witnessed order after we did. It wouldn't have really mattered but we were needing to get to the airport.
Stopped in because they were having a special “veganuary” menu and I am vegan. Menu options were fantastic and the food was awesome. Did not have to make special requests as the food was totally vegan on the special menu. I had the “impossible meat nachos” and “smoked tofu enchiladas.” Portion size was generous and the taste was awesome. Served on warm plates and great service. Could only eat 1/2 of each. Will be back tomorrow...
My wife and I wanted to share carnitas, carne asada, and brisket tacos. They are under the menu heading TACOS, and it says that three tacos per order. We orderd one each of the three dishes, but made the mistake of telling the server that we were sharing them. The server messed up and they brought us each a plate with one of each taco. So we got six instead of nine tacos. They charged us each for a "taco assortment" -- something that is not on the menu. Also, we did not realize that the brisket taco is not what we would call a taco. It is a taquito, which turns out to be a filled, rolled tortilla that is deep fried.
Went to Border Grill @ Mandalay Bay with a friend for brunch on a Saturday. . .One of the best decisions I've made in a long time. The brunch was FANTASTIC!! The Brunch Menu consists of 16 items served in a tapas (small plate) style. Because both my friend and I are foodies, we set out to tackle the entire menu, ALL 16 ITEMS!! All of the items were uniquely different in concept, flavor and presentation. Some our faves were the YUCATAN EGG BENEDICT which consisted of a Manchego cheese biscuit, Yucatan roasted pork, slow cooked egg, Hollandaise sauce & pickled onions. INCREDIBLE! Next, the STEAK & EGG included a perfectly-cooked Aspen ridge farm skirt steak, avocado, an over-easy egg, with chipotle sauce, & salsa fresca served atop a crispy potato cake. AWESOME! The PERUVIAN SHRIMP & GRITS included perfectly cooked shrimp with roasted peppers and an aji panca salsa (Peruvian red pepper) over creamy hominy grits. RIDICULOUS! Finally, the CHILAQUILES consisted of crispy corn tortilla chips covered with salsa verde, panela cheese, sofrito, and a fried egg.. OUTSTANDING! The CHURRO TOTS offered a nice sweet touch as they were drizzled with cajeta (Mexican caramel), cinnamon sugar and a passion fruit coulis. TREMENDOUS!
Ultimately, my friend and I did complete the entire brunch menu, and had no complaints at all. I do recommend that you put on your big boy eating pants if you're going to try this brunch menu. Definitely not for the faint of heart!! Thank you Border Grill @ Mandalay Bay!!
empty place that charges you for water and then you have to ask for more water. Salso was not tasty at all, some strange stuff. The green with maybe some guacomole was ok. hot had a little heat they called it diablo.
Hand made carmel ice cream was poor, priced fine for a restaurant at one scoop for $3.00. Taked more like ice milk and poor carmel flavor.
The food was amazing . I went for brunch and they have a ton of different options. They have 6 different memosas to choose from. The plates are French size portions, meaning they are small plated. Which is perfect because you can get so many things and still be full but hungry enough to try something else. It took us like 4 plates each of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, as well as dessert. Definitely would go again .
Enjoyed the small plate brunch and food was very good. They were out of a couple of items and had taken away the salad and self service option we had previously enjoyed. Also noted that almost every dish was garnished with black beans which were not listed on any descriptions and less fancier opt ions than we had on prior visits to their brunch.
We were there for CES... it wasn't took busy and our third party was over an hour late. The waitress and the manager were really cool in letting us order without pressuring us, when our other guest arrived, always checking in on us to make sure everything was okay. I ordered a Margarita that I wasn't too keen on, & the waitress (I think it was Ashley?) could tell it wasn't my favorite, and immediately said, I'll get you one you like. I liked the fact they really had a lot of GF options, not just the usual "oh-we'll-take-the-bread-off" plates. Best corn chips EVER!!
Creatively prepared, flavorful dinners. Margarita was delicious. The service was terrific. We wish we had more time to sample the small plates option. There was a friends/family table of 6 adults and 8 kids nearby and we observed our server take the time with each child, treating each with respect and still got all of her tables served. Impressive.
The dining room was noisy even though it was not busy.
