All-around solid Mexican food with a slight corporate vibe.
We had great service for a busy Friday night. The food and drinks were both amazing!
We decided to eat here with the kids prior to a dodgers game. They do have kid menus and crayons, and the staff was friendly, but the food was not great. We spent more than we would have liked on food that was mediocre at best.
Good stuff !
Poor Service, mediocre food and drinks. We were seated 30min after our booked reservation. Waited at the bar for 30 min until we were seated and were not even able to get a drink. Finally got seated and ordered a margarita that was weak and wasn't even filled all of the way, in a plastic cup. We had to ask several times for water as well. When my food was served it was flavorless and nothing to write home about. Their old location in Santa Monica, which is now closed, was so much better. I would not recommend this to anyone.
We went to Border Grill on Cinco de Mayo. We knew it would be a busy day, but with a reservation, we had hoped to still have a good experience. Unfortunately the restaurant was just a little too busy and orders were messed up and service wasn't great.
Great to meet one of the owners and the waitstaff was great too!
Another nice Friday afternoon lunch with client and co-workers - outside patio seating.
Wonderful as always. Great food. Quieter after happy hour.
Every time I dine at BG, service and food is always excellent!
First time here, and we will be back. We came to celebrate a coworker's birthday, and to my surprise they brought out a very special dessert treat for us all to enjoy! It was the perfect ending to a great meal with friends.
The raspberry chipotle margarita is terrific! Just a hint of heat, something a little different. Great patio with view of the Bonaventure Hotel.
Service was friendly but took a long time/others around us served faster... Food was generally good with interesting menu. Black beans and rice were only bad choices. Yucatán pork was good.
Big party having taken over the entire rear, we were relegated to a table in the front bar area. But other than that a good time as usual. Food is always great and server went out of her way to make the night enjoyable.
It was s reunion lunch and close for everyone. Festive and Food was good. We sat next to the bar and it was loud.
I eat a vegan diet and they were very accommodating. :)
20th anniversary , Love the vegan offerings and the unlimited champagne.
I've eater here several times over the years, but I guess because it's mostly a weekday business crowd, they aren't super equipped or busy on a Saturday night. We got there about 8:30 or so and it was fairly empty. We were seated in the dining room and then no one came. Apparently, no one told the server we were there and they'd closed the dining room. They were very gracious and comped us guacamole to make up for it, but then once they took our order, forgot about us again. Twice, I had to get up and look for someone to help us with drinks. Our food was very good, but the lackluster service definitely made it a sub par experience for what has been one of my favorite LA restaurants for over 3 decades...
Went to celebrate two birthdays and the service was horrible. Didn’t bring our appetizer. Never checked on us after our entrees were brought and only took our initial drink order. Had to stop a waiter passing by to refill our waters and that only happened once. By the end of the meal we had empty drinks and had to wait 20mins before we asked what looked like the manager for our bill because we didn’t want to continue sitting there with no service. Our birthdays were never acknowledged even though we told the waiter during our drink order we were there to celebrate two birthdays. While the food was good the service ruined the experience.
Food served was undercooked chicken. Not ok.
Overall, it was a really disappointing experience. We were excited to come back to Border Grill w/ my mom for Easter Brunch after not being here for a few years. However, everything, from the way we were greeted, to the service, to the food... it was all very disappointing, especially for what we paid. The food sounded exciting on the Easter Brunch Menu, but it was sub-par and lackluster. Everything tasted like it was pre-cooked, all the dishes were lukewarm, the chilaquiles were soggy, the angel hair was inedible, the steak was cold, the tamales & meat were dry, the list goes on and on. The only dish we all enjoyed (out of about 11-12 we tried) was the Ceviche.
And we kept on having to flag down our server since our water wasn't refilled, the beer was never brought over (nor did she apologize when we reminded her that she forgot it), she didn't follow up to let us know that they didn't have one of the desserts on the menu, nor did she check up on us throughout our meal (hence us needing to constantly flag her down)...
Overall, Chefs Susan Feniger & Mary Sue Milliken would have been very disappointed at being guests at their own restaurant. :(
Food is consistently good. Service was excellent at all levels. Atmosphere is boisterous or noisy depending on your age.
We had a very nice dinner after visiting the King Tut exhibition at Ca Science Center. My husband left his wallet at the restaurant and by the time we drive home, there was a message from Augusto telling us that the restaurant had found it and was holding it for us. Wonderful service and great follow through.
Good food, decent portions to leave you satisfied without feeling that you were overserved. They have a unique selection of Margaritas that are meant to be enjoyed by their complex flavors. But if you want to get a buzz going, you are better off with Tequila shots. The staff was attentive without making us feel rushed. Bonus: Straws are available upon request instead of automatically served, so it helps the environment.
Food was amazing. Very good. Our server Carlos was beyond amazing. Very helpful. Very friendly and enthusiastic.
Amazing like always! The service was spectacular!
My friends and I were on a girls weekend and came for brunch. It was the perfect place for a large group and we were lucky to get a reservation. Chelsea was our server and she was amazing. So positive about everything and she gave us great food recommendations. It was the perfect end to our weekend.
Sunday brunch. Great variety of food items. Some are good while some aren't. The juice for the mimosas are served in a skull glass that fits the restaurant' s decor but are impossible to pour into your drink without making a mess.
The service was amazing! We were at a conference across the street and loved the food, ambiance and the staff.
My husband and I were visiting LA from out of town. Came across Border Grill on line and decided to give it a try. We were celebrating my birthday and I love Mexican food so it made sense. We are so glad we decided to go! Although we made a reservation we didn't need one. For 6pm on a Friday it wasn't too busy. We were quickly sat and the server was over with water, chips and salsa in no time. It didn't take us long to decide on our meals so we didn't order an appetizer. The food came out in reasonable time and during the short wait we got to enjoy the delicious trio of complementary salsas which my husband and I agreed should be bottled and sold nation wide. Once our food came the server let me know that since it was my birthday I would be getting a free dessert! The tacos we ordered were AMAZING! When the dessert came it was equally amazing! I cannot say enough good things about Border Grill. Definitely worth the trip to DTLA.
I gave my name and said it was a party of two and I had a reservation. The girl who sat me left 3 menus and my friend hadn’t yet arrived. Carlos was our waiter. Good service overall. Ordered two bowls of posole cuz I love the pork & hominy soup but didn’t have any hominy and the pork was fatty. The serving was small for a bowl vs cup and we also had an order of guacamole. Because the hostess didn’t check me in, I received a missed reservation from opentable and had to “prove” I was there. If you need a quiet place to have lunch or somewhere you don’t have to wait go to Border Grill. Personally I think the menu and interior need updating.
The food was very good. I ordered my steak medium rare, but half of it was very rare, so I didn't finish it. The waitress was very friendly, but we had to hunt her down for our bill.
Everything was pretty good, the service, the food, our server. The only thing was the michelada was really poor the salted rim was barely salted at all and the mixes used tasted a bit funky. I’d still go back for the food but definitely not going to get another michelada
Was great to not only have a prix fix menu option! Plus they gave all the tables flowers, what a nice touch.
My husband and I were looking for a place to enjoy a night out. We couldn't of found a better place. Border grill has great service and excellent food. We really liked the chimi churri rib-eye. My husband can't wait to go back!
This is a great spot for a very early dinner before an event at the Dorothy Chandler or Walt Disney Hall, a fifteen-minute walk away. The parsnip and pear soup was to die for! Peruvian ceviche was accompanied by crispy plantains and little tastes of the best guacamole I've ever had. I will be back!
I love the weekend brunch here, and now that they've added a vegan menu, it's twice as wonderful. Delicious small plates, unlimited, such fun to taste and try new delights and old favorites.
