Food was amazing. Very good. Our server Carlos was beyond amazing. Very helpful. Very friendly and enthusiastic.
Amazing like always! The service was spectacular!
My friends and I were on a girls weekend and came for brunch. It was the perfect place for a large group and we were lucky to get a reservation. Chelsea was our server and she was amazing. So positive about everything and she gave us great food recommendations. It was the perfect end to our weekend.
Sunday brunch. Great variety of food items. Some are good while some aren't. The juice for the mimosas are served in a skull glass that fits the restaurant' s decor but are impossible to pour into your drink without making a mess.
The service was amazing! We were at a conference across the street and loved the food, ambiance and the staff.
My husband and I were visiting LA from out of town. Came across Border Grill on line and decided to give it a try. We were celebrating my birthday and I love Mexican food so it made sense. We are so glad we decided to go! Although we made a reservation we didn't need one. For 6pm on a Friday it wasn't too busy. We were quickly sat and the server was over with water, chips and salsa in no time. It didn't take us long to decide on our meals so we didn't order an appetizer. The food came out in reasonable time and during the short wait we got to enjoy the delicious trio of complementary salsas which my husband and I agreed should be bottled and sold nation wide. Once our food came the server let me know that since it was my birthday I would be getting a free dessert! The tacos we ordered were AMAZING! When the dessert came it was equally amazing! I cannot say enough good things about Border Grill. Definitely worth the trip to DTLA.
I gave my name and said it was a party of two and I had a reservation. The girl who sat me left 3 menus and my friend hadn’t yet arrived. Carlos was our waiter. Good service overall. Ordered two bowls of posole cuz I love the pork & hominy soup but didn’t have any hominy and the pork was fatty. The serving was small for a bowl vs cup and we also had an order of guacamole. Because the hostess didn’t check me in, I received a missed reservation from opentable and had to “prove” I was there. If you need a quiet place to have lunch or somewhere you don’t have to wait go to Border Grill. Personally I think the menu and interior need updating.
The food was very good. I ordered my steak medium rare, but half of it was very rare, so I didn't finish it. The waitress was very friendly, but we had to hunt her down for our bill.
Everything was pretty good, the service, the food, our server. The only thing was the michelada was really poor the salted rim was barely salted at all and the mixes used tasted a bit funky. I’d still go back for the food but definitely not going to get another michelada
Was great to not only have a prix fix menu option! Plus they gave all the tables flowers, what a nice touch.
My husband and I were looking for a place to enjoy a night out. We couldn't of found a better place. Border grill has great service and excellent food. We really liked the chimi churri rib-eye. My husband can't wait to go back!
This is a great spot for a very early dinner before an event at the Dorothy Chandler or Walt Disney Hall, a fifteen-minute walk away. The parsnip and pear soup was to die for! Peruvian ceviche was accompanied by crispy plantains and little tastes of the best guacamole I've ever had. I will be back!
I love the weekend brunch here, and now that they've added a vegan menu, it's twice as wonderful. Delicious small plates, unlimited, such fun to taste and try new delights and old favorites.
Fantastic service provided by our waiter, Carlos. The food was very good. The music was wonderful. Loved the murals on the wall.
Very good cocktails, and innovative Mexican cuisine. Very welcoming, and great service. We arrive late due to traffic and told server we had theater tickets, so they ensured we got our food timely.
The food was very poor quality. The chicken in the quesadillas was fatty and very greasy. Margaritas had too much salt. Very disappointed as this is use to be a good restaurant. Prices are much too high for quality of food.
A real disappointment. I was thinking this was a truly special restaurant, great legacy and reputation, innovative food, etc. In reality, it's nothing special. OK, service was terrific but overall just an ordinary Mexican restaurant.
We had another great experience at Border Grill. Our server was fantastic, engaging and she was very attentive. This is our second time for dinner with family and friends and found excellent options for everyone with different food interest.
Historically, I love Border Grill and have introduced many people to it over the years. This visit included the Dine LA menu, from which four of us ordered. Unfortunately, some of the descriptions were incomplete and food arrived with foods containing contents to which there were allergies. Just saying....
Again, historically, this place rocks!
We had an excellent dinner at Border Grill. The food was delicious and fresh and two of the four people are vegetarians and there were plenty of great options. The cocktails were also amazing and I loved organic agave nectar was used instead of processed margarita mix. The service was also very good. We will definitely return!
Tried restaurant during DineLA. Was disappointed. The food was not very good.
Did. It really like the food or drinks. Would not go back or recommend.
Not bad their food just need to taste more authentic and not so commercial. The service, drinks and chips were good.
Good food, very slow service for beverages. Nothing refilled and had to keep asking for waiter to follow up. Tasty though.
Great food and great service. Friendly greeter, sat us promptly. Our server was great he gave us good suggestions on plates. All of our food came out really fast. The happy hour was the best, we were able to try a lot of their plates at the happy hour price and now we know that we can come back for regular plates. We had the potato tacos, fish tacos, brisket taquitos, guacamole, queso fundido, and carne asada quesadilla. The beer and a shot deal was great, Get up offa that brown and Zapopan tequila. Gotta love happy hour. Parking was a bit of a doozy in the US Bank parking lot but it was only $5 with validation. Definitely coming back!
Food was scrumptious as always. Glad to see that the food hasn't changed in all the years I've been coming. Service was excellent too. With all of the new eateries that have popped up downtown, this place still doesn't disappoint.
I used to love the Santa Monica location, but having lunch here was a terrible experience. Slow service, lackluster food... we couldn’t even get anyone to refill our water glasses. And on top of that the food was served room temp (which is a generous description - it was cold). We waited over 30 minutes for our food too which for tacos seems ridiculous. My fiancé had the brunch and those plates came out super slow each time. We were really disappointed with everything. Not going back.
I've been to another Border Grill location but I was disappointed in the taste of food at this one. It wasn't bad but it was not as good as the other location so I was disappointed. They did accommodate any changes we asked for on the menu so that was a plus.
Great cucumber margaritas and guacamole. Everyone loved their main dish. Great service, too.
Tasty upscale Mexican food in a fun atmosphere. Friendly service. Pre-concert meal and walked off the calories with a 10-minute stroll to Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Brunch was a nice variety of well prepared Southwestern/Mexican small plates with some fun additions (how about some fried chicken & churro waffles?) to keep things interesting. We didn't explore the vegan menu but it was an additional full page of choices. Unlimited mimosas and/or bloody marys helped the conversation flow and the service was friendly and informal but impeccably executed. Being served at the table instead of having to stand in a buffet line was a definite plus. We've dined at the Border Grill through several iterations, both Downtown L.A. and the sadly closed Santa Monica location and have never had a bad meal, poorly constructed cocktail or other than good service.
Always a delightful time at Border Grill Downtown Los Angeles. Today's visit was for the weekend New Year's Eve brunch. No one does it as well as Chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken. They food, the liquid refreshment offerings and their staff are spot on. It's always a treat to dine at Border Grill DTLA.
Service was delightful and very knowledgeable about ingredients. Food was excellent. We had tortilla soup, ceviches, fish tacos, carnitas tacos with sangria and dessert. Never rushed.
I had read the reviews for this place and had High hopes. However when we went for dinner on a Wednesday at 6 PM, we were almost the only ones there which did not make for a very festive atmosphere. In fact they had closed the dining area and we had to sit in the bar area. I did not like our table, it felt isolated and cold, but we had no other choice. However the service and food were very good. And we were able to order from the happy hour menu. It is a very convenient location if you are staying at the Bonaventure since you just walk across the street.
Border Grill is one of my favorites. The food is excellent. I love eating there!
Food was awful and drinks were mediocre, at best.
Really enjoyed this for a work lunch. Service was great, good recommendations re: the menu. AND the food was delicious. Its also a great price point for work meals.
Had the Border brunch for unlimited small plates. Some of the dishes took way too long to come out from the kitchen leaving you with long breaks between small plates. Some dishes were spectacular while others were not (chicken and waffle — waffle was burnt).
We were seated right away on the outside patio under a heat lamp. It was great. It wasn't that crowded so the overall noise wasn't that bad. The people at the table right next to us were VERY loud. The food was good - it took longer than I expected to come. The waitress said about 2 different times that the food was coming right out, but it took a while to get to us. When it did - it was good. Convenient location for what we needed.
