Our 25th Anniversary dinner together was a delight at Boone Tavern. We drove about 1 1/2 hours to get there, but the food was perfect and our waitress was wonderful! We would love to visit again.

On 4/12 we traveled about 100 miles for an afternoon with my wife and friends from TN to eat at a classy restaurant at 1 PM. The ambiance was special, but that was about it for "special". The food was average at best and so was the service. The dining room was maybe 1/2 full so there was no big rush for the servers.

The two men both get bloody Mary's. Even though we both like spicy, these seemed to be overly spicy and only fair. They were garnished with two olives and a huge stalk of celery. The peach moonshine was OK as was a 4th drink which I forget what it was but I think it was white wine. We all got a glass of water, but nobody ever came back to refill the water glasses. We all split a beer batter shrimp and that was OK with good dipping sauce.

I had the Reuben sandwich. The slice of pickle was about 1/2 of what I would have liked. The pickle juice leaked under the bread of the sandwich and made the bread soggy wet. Often a pickle is served with a small napkin under it to soak up the juice, but not this time. The corned beef tasted old and dried out. The spiced chips on the side were cold and nothing special for the "spiced" in the name. Plain fresh potato chips might have been better. My friends wife had the Tilapia. Asked how she liked it she said she has had better.

My wife got the pork sliders and she said they were nothing special. My other friend got the Hot Brown and his comment was it was one of the worst Hot Browns he has ever had. One person in the party got the cheesecake for dessert and said it was delicious.

Our waiter never came back until the meal was almost done, and then only to take away the an empty plate. There seemed to be plenty of staff around, they just seemed to be afraid to interact with the diners very much.

Overall, a pleasant experience except for the food. The price would be OK had the food been better prepared or had tasted better.

We frequently stay overnight in Berea when we travel between South Carolina and Ohio or Michigan. The Boone Tavern is always our go-to spot for dinner. It's a very relaxing restaurant, especially after 8 hours of driving. The food is wonderfully prepared and beautifully presented. Over the years I've tried a different dish every time and I've never been disappointed. The best of all, though, is that the service is very attentive and the prices are reasonable for a meal of their quality.

We had an excellent experience on Saturday, April 7 celebrating my mother's birthday. We had reservations, but added one to the table, which was accommodated without any issue. The food was excellent as well as service. Thank you for making this event so memorable for all.

My husband and I took my father in law to Boone Tavern for his 89th birthday last Saturday. He now lives in Louisville and we live in Bowling Green, KY. He was born in Berea but had never eaten at the restaurant and he was excited to go for dinner. I remembered having eaten there as a child 45 years ago and still remember having loved the spoon bread as a 5 year-old little girl!

The spoon bread was absolutely delicious just as I remembered. We had the quail, fried deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes appetizers and all were perfect - better than we hoped they would be. My husband had the wedge salad which he said was wonderful. My FIL and I both enjoyed the Hot Brown which was made with a delicious Mornay sauce - the shaved country ham is what really made the sandwich the best I've ever had. My husband had the bourbon pork chop which was a large bone-in cut that was reportedly very good.

Desert was wonderful too - I did have to take my Bailey's Irish cream chocolate cake home though! The drive to Berea was well worth it. Everyone who lives in or is visiting Kentucky should eat here at least once. I am definitely planning to go back again soon.

We went here for our anniversary and it was the perfect choice. The service was great, I appreciated how prompt and professional everyone on the staff was. We enjoyed the presentation and flavors of our entrees, but we especially loved the spoonbread samples that were brought to our table a couple of times! Be sure to try the spoonbread, it's delicious!

We had a large party of 14 for my husband and my 30th wedding anniversary. We always celebrate at Boone Tavern for special occasions.
Waitress was nice. People were paying for their own meals so it took her a few minutes to get that situated. Spoon bread was hot and delicious. They came back often with refills. Several people ordered the bourbon pork chop and the scallops for entrees. When they arrived, one person was told they messed up the order and he couldn’t have his meal as it was the longest to prepare. Ok. He ordered something else but had to wait while everyone else finished their meal. He did finally get it and it was hot. My husband spoke to the waitress as he was charged for his meal. We thought it should have been comped. She was hesitant and said we needed to speak to management which we did.
We assumed it was commonplace to do this when a customer was inconvenienced to that extreme.

It is a great pleasure to dine in such beautiful surroundings, to be served with competence, and to enjoy a fine meal. Boone Tavern is an institution in this part of Kentucky and has had its ups and downs with respect to food quality, but I am happy to say it is as good, or better, than it has ever been.

We were traveling through and decided to go to Boone Tavern for dinner.
Steak was so tough the steak knife wouldn't cut it. So had to saw it. Cut the steak in real thin pieces to eat.
The steak had a real good taste but chewing the steak was a workout!
The lamb was uneventful! Tasteless and extremely hard to cut. The wedge salad wasn't of good quality and the blue cheese wasn't good at all.
Spoon bread was good as always.
Definitely not a destination!
We really enjoyed eating dinner there years ago!
Probably won't be back unless we go to try lunch instead of dinner.
Hope the chef eats some of the food he/she prepares
And makes improvements.
Really a disappointment for sure! 😟

We drove an hour to eat there and were disappointed. Some of the food was good. There was a problem with my salad. The waiter did not check back with us until we were finished with our meal. He did end up taking the salad off our bill but he was not pleasant about it. So, rest of the food was good but service was lacking.

I had not been to Boone Tavern since I was a child so we scheduled a stop for lunch on our way home from Florida. The dining room was nicely remodeled but still had a historic feel to it. Food was good as was service. We had made a reservation through open table although you could probably get a table for lunch mid week without one.

The dining room is lovely & quaint, like the hotel. Service was a bit distracted, & there was a mix up with our order. We found the soup & entree lacking in seasoning. All the fried items were delicious, though; probably best to stick with traditional fare here.

Amazing evening out for my husband’s birthday. The beauty and ambience of this place was so breathtaking, we could hardly focus on the food which was fabulous in its own right. The fried green tomato salad was unique, rich, and amazingly fresh. Don’t miss it! We had traditional entrees representative of KY and found ourselves full less than halfway through our meal. The tastes were impeccable! What a romantic getaway in a quaint little piece of a time gone by. We will be back!

We have been to the Boone Tavern many times. The service was very good. The food was disappointing on this trip. The fried items were over cooked. The chicken was tough and I had trouble cutting it even with a knife.

We were disappointed in the gift shop no longer being at the Tavern and just saw vendors with their items in the hotel lobby.
They took up so much room in the lobby and if you weren’t interested in what they were selling it just became awkward.

I am seriously considering not coming back because the changes were bad ideas and it lacked the charm I use to like about the Inn and Tavern.

Dining at Boone Tavern was a experience. Located in the college town and artist haven of Berea it serves classic and deliciously prepared Kentucky cuisine. The service was friendly and accommodating for my elderly mother and the surroundings are gracious. I highly recommend it as a destination for food, the Tavern and the community.

We made reservations for Christmas Eve lunch but were surprised upon arriving when we were told there was no menu for the day, only a buffet. This was not noted anywhere on the website. There was a decent variety but much of the food was cold. The service and ambiance were very good. The overall experience was positive and we will visit again but not for a buffet.

We hadn't been to Boone Tavern in years and one of the biggest changes is that wine, beer and cocktails are on the menu. The hotel lobby and dining room have been elegantly refurbished and are warm and welcoming. What hasn't changed is the great food. Our friends are vegetarians and there were plenty of options for them. I had fried green tomato wedges and roast chicken. The chicken was moist and beautifully presented. And the terrific spoon bread is still served. I read mixed reviews on service but our server was efficient, prompt and got everything right. We were too full for dessert but the choices looked wonderful. We'll be back!

Had dinner there as well as breakfast during an overnight stay. Quality of the food for both breakfast and dinner was very good. Service was very good although don't expect "fast". That is not a problem as you come here for the atmosphere and to spend time in the dinning room. I would come back without any hesitation. Our dinner meal could have been a bit warmer in temperature is our only complaint. Could have been partly due to the fact we were an early dinner group just after they opened up. Felt comfortable while we were here as well. In my opinion 4 out of 5 stars. Breakfast on its own would have been 5 out of 5.
