The food & service were excellent
It just isn’t as good as it used to be. The service was very slow and there wasn’t a crowd yet. Can’t imagine what it was like for the others since the place was full when we left.
Another patron warned us away from the buffet”everything is cold”.
The servers need better training. Water needs to be filled regularly as does the coffee.
We used to love driving over from
Lexington, especially in the fall. I’m afraid it’s no longer worth the trip.
Worst experience I have ever had. Ordered chicken and waffles with 2 eggs. Got a piece of chicken and a pancake, no eggs. Told kitchen "could not do waffles today." Also told meals ould be discounted but when got bill everything was at full price. Very unfortunate that it did not live up to reputation
The restaurant has lovely decor, attentive service and excellent food. We were there yesterday for Sunday lunch and decided to order from the menu, which suited us. A delicious small plate item was deep-fried deviled eggs. An excellent choice to start the meal. We will always have a meal at Boone Tavern whenever we are in Kentucky.
We were on time but had to wait for about 20 minutes even though there were vacant seats within the dining room. The dining room was noisy and hard to communicate with our friends.
After we were seated we had to wait to get our order taken. Then had to ask for spoon bread and still waited for it. When we got the spoon bread it was burnt on the bottom.
Our meal was over priced for what we got.
Will not take friend there again.
My date had never been there, but I grew up stopping here for lunch on the way to Cincinnati Reds Games. Excellent as always. So excited to be able to have the first Saturday brunch buffet. It was perfect!! Only wish the cheese grits had been on the buffet. No worries! We just ordered a side. Have always loved the spoon bread! Thanks for keeping it so good!! We’ll be back!
So rude. Didn’t even eat there. I didn’t felt welcome there at all. I heard the food was bland, but that is so much better than the service. Hope this restaurant fails and something worth while goes in. Yea it’s historic, but some history has to be forgotten and moved on from. The pompous front of the house people made sure I never come back to their AARP, retirement-home dusty “restaurant”. Went back to Lexington where they appreciated my business.
Food overpriced. Service good but not very personable. Atmosphere nice.
Lovely place with great service and food. Presentation was incredible and menu very interesting.
Wasn’t as good this time. The staff seemed put off that we were there to dine out.
Food was excellent. The setting was beautiful! Berea is a wonderful place to visit.
Loved the ambience. Hot brown was fantastic. Thanks so much for an absolutely great evening
It had been more than 40 years since I had last dined at Boone Tavern and it was the first time my wife and been there. I had told her how elegant it was and how good the food was especially the spoon bread. Both of us enjoyed the experience and also learning more about the history. I didn't realize that Boone Tavern was constructed by then President William Frost back in 1909 because his wife Nellie needed more space for guests to stay when they were visiting Berea College. I found that interesting because my last name is Frost and I grew up in Richmond never knowing about Berea's president. As for the dining experience, I highly recommend it to everyone especially for special occasions. The menu offer unique main selections and you can't leave without ordering the Derby Pie for dessert. I recommend sharing the pie.
Enjoyed the overall experience. Good atmosphere and service. My wife enjoyed the buttermilk fried chicken. I was somewhat disappointed with the bird nest entree that I ordered however I did enjoy the spoonbread. Also enjoyed cocktails at the Frosty Cafe after dinner. Would likely return but try a different entree.
Staff was awesome and really helped our family celebrate my daughters birthday.. took such good care of my 2 year old grandson !!!
The Sunday brunch was great! Decent price for the full buffet, which included a good assortment of meats, vegetables, fresh fruit, and desserts. The made-to-order omelettes were large enough for two of us to work on, and the desserts selection gave a bunch of options for different tastes.
We went to Boone Tavern near the start of a new school year at Berea College, and we were told that some of the serving staff were still learning the ropes. The only "glitch" we saw was that the dining room wasn't ready to go at 11:30 -- the first reservation time -- so we got in about 20-25 minutes late. Other than that, though, the servers were friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable.
Good overall experience. We would definitely recommend the Sunday Brunch especially.
A delicious Sunday brunch in a beautiful setting! We will definitely be back when we are in town again!
Not enough wait staff
We love Boone Tavern! We always try and stop here whenever we are traveling down 75. Sunday was a beautiful day and we just decided to make the trip down from Cincinnati to get brunch! Never disappoints!
A wonderful meal in a relaxing quiet atmosphere with music. The hot-browns we ordered were delicious. Our server was efficient and courteous. This luncheon outing made for a very pleasant birthday experience!
This restaurant is staffed primarily by students attending Berea College. We were welcomed at the door by a young woman who seated us immediately, even though we arrived about 15 minutes early. The atmosphere was quietly elegant. A student server almost immediately took our drink order. Another appeared shortly with a pan of spoon bread. The food was excellent. We hope to make a return visit in the future and spend the night at the Inn.
Great food and Great service, A Real Kentucky gem....
Wonderful small historic hotel that has been well maintained. A jewel.
As always the food and service was excellent !
Dinner and service were excellent. Would highly recommend the restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed a cocktail on the porch. Only downside was there were no rooms available for an overnight stay.
The restaurant was lovely and the food was outstanding. The corn soup was the best I’ve ever had and the summer squash with risotto was also very good. I had the salmon with cheese grits for my entree and it was excellent. My husband and I shared the bourbon bread pudding and it was delicious!
The young wait staff were all very polite but they could use more training. We ate here for both dinner and breakfast and neither of our waiters brought a pen with the check, not even after the credit card was run. They also didn’t clear dishes well. I had to put my soup bowl on the side so my entree could be placed on the table and even the. The bowl was not taken away.
The restaurant at dinner was very cold _ so cold my husband went back to our room to get a jacket. The room temperature at breakfast was very comfortable.
The service kinks and temperature can be corrected. The food was so good that, even though we live in Atlanta, I’d like to think we’ll be back!!
Our server was attentive but not intrusive. The bar provided excellent mojitos and my hot brown sandwich was delicious. I had not had one since we moved from Kentucky nearly 45 years ago, and it brought back wonderful memories. My husband enjoyed his scallops and we both enjoyed the spoon bread and our shared bread pudding. We had a lovely evening.
The ambiance and service was terrific. They had many new students who had just started with the new semester, had to send for fresh spoon bread. The accommodated changes in my side items easily.
Service very slow despite few customers. Servers very nice and friendly, but food arrived cold, condiments too late.
Friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. A good place for a light lunch. Can be a little slow so give enough time
We had dinner and breakfast in the Boone Tavern dining room.
For dinner we had an 8 oz beef tenderloin and the Hen under brick. Both came with fingerling potatoes and seasonal vegies. All the food served is sourced from the farm ran by Berea College. Very fresh.
We had the bread pudding and triple chocolate cake for dessert. Each were generously portioned, and good but not great.
For breakfast we both had create your own omelets that were terrific. These came with fried potatoes or cheese grits. If you're a grits person, definitely go for the grits.
Our servers, Hunter for dinner, and Amber for breakfast were excellent at their jobs. Very attentive and friendly.
Great service and food. I am on a special diet and had to be real picky. They were willing to work with my restrictions. Super place to visit.
Definitely a favorite, however they seemed to be off their game a little last visit. Service was slow, we weren't offered their traditional, delicious spoon bread, and the grilled peach heirloom tomato salad was almost inedible - the peach was hard as a rock and hardly grilled and the tomato was a waxy grocery tomato. But the Hot Brown was delicious as was the grilled chicken club sandwich. Home made chips were also delicious. Still one of our favorite places, so we're hoping next time will live up to their standard of excellence.
Enjoyed stepping back in time. The decor was old lavish and i was almost expecting a rendition of ball gowns, horse and buggies, or an apparition or two of yesteryear. Food was great. Service was good and a definite repeat.
Everything we ordered was delicious. Four clean plates out of four! Portions not oversized, and just right to properly fill the tummy and flavors perfect to quench the appetite.
Hotel was wonderful, quiet, quaint and very well maintained! Make sure to enjoy the rocking chairs on the front porch.
The restaurant was a big disappointment!! We had dinner there and breakfast. I had the scallops and they were very good. I added a side of their cheddar grits and that was a waste. It was just a congealed blob with little to no taste, it probably had been sitting for hours! Two people in our group had Chicken in a nest dish and it was basically chicken salad in a French fry bowl that was too hard to eat. Lastly one person had the duck and sent it back it was so tough. The wine list is basically non existent and the staff had no knowledge of what they had.
I almost canceled breakfast then thought if we stick to the basics we can’t go wrong.....,I was wrong.
Poached eggs were well done, sausage was previously frozen and very rubbery, ‘home’ fries were also a frozen item. ‘toast’ was not toasted! And they didn’t even put butter on the table it was some sort or margarine cause it didn’t melt!
Really wish I had booked out meals outside of the hotel!
Our experience was wonderful! Delicious food and outstanding service in a beautiful setting!
The food and service were outstanding. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and chose to eat at Boone Tavern for our celebration. We both ordered the scallops and corn plus the fried deviled eggs. Both were delicious.
I booked the reservation for a birthday dinner for my wife. The portions were rather small, and no sides offered or salad selection with our meal. The meat and cheese appetizer was quite disappointing with cheese selections that were loud in smell and taste, and one of the meat samples was extremely chewy with a taste that was not appealing. We spent over $90 for our meal and left hungry.
The food was outstanding ! The fried green tomato appetizer was delicious. The watermelon and tomato with whipped ricotta cheese was light and tasty. We all ordered the scallop dinner and enjoyed our meal. We will return again soon.
