Bookers BBQ + Crab Shack Ratings and Reviews
We splurged and got the meat platter with Crab and it didn't disappoint. Could have few 4 or 5 people but there was only 2 of us. Excellent service! Excellent BBQ. Super juicy and tender. I loved the beans and coleslaw too. Was served on a garbage can lid, super cool!
I am a native Calgarian and have been going to Bookers for some 20 years now, the food used to be great. My wife and I were so disappointed with the quality and the very small amounts of food for what we are paying but more importantly what happened to the quality of the food. It reminded me of fast food dining, ribs weren't cooked, I think I had about for table spoons of pulled pork in my dish. The food was so bad the we ended up going to our favorite pasta restaurant after we left.
Bookers has a lo of work to do before I ever go back or recommend it to anyone.
Since moving to Calgary a year ago, this is my 3rd time here and up until this recent visit it's been good. This last visit was very disappointing in every aspect. The service was terrible, seemed like none of the staff wanted to be there. I had the smokehouse salad and the greens were not fresh and overall not very appetizing. I didn't bother complaining because I didn't think anyone would care.
Didn't really have very high expectations since I've only ever eaten here during Stampede, when everything is the same everywhere. Pleasantly surprised. The food variety was good. The jambalaya was excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. Prices were very reasonable. I will be back.
We went for our anniversary and was seated next to each other facing the bar. When booking the table I was specific about having a regular table for 2 because it was our anniversary, so we were extremely disappointed. We ended up leaving to eat elsewhere because of this.
The food was good, the service was fair. The live band had a great selection of music, however the music was so loud I could not talk to the person across my table and we left as it was no longer enjoyable. I would not go there again while a band is playing if a good meal and conversation with a friend is what you want.
We were very disappointed in our experience. Both my husband & I had wanted to try Bookers for a while now, as it's been a long standing Calgary restaurant. Unfortunately we will not ever go back.
Although the service was great it was the food that was completely lacking. For appetizers we had the Brisket Beef Ends, which had been recommended by our server, & they were very tender and tasty. After that it all went down hill. We also had the crab cakes, but they had the texture of paste & had no discernible taste. My husband had the BBQ plate with chicken & pulled pork along with gumbo & chili for sides. They only thing he truly enjoyed was the chili because it had some flavour to it. The rest of the items were completely lacking of any flavour.
I had the St. Louis Ribs & they were neither tasty nor tender. I've had way better ribs at the chain restaurant, Tony Roma's. I had to fight to get the knife to cut them. The side of corn bread had zero taste, while the coleslaw was good, but basic.
We get rare date nights & we're both frustrated & disappointed that this restaurant did not live up to the hype, took our precious time, and cost a lot. Definitely one place that I would not recommend.
Not only did the staff treat us like Gold, but they were super knowledgeable and were very good at their jobs. And the food was equally as amazing!! I came to watch my hubbys band and we had an absolute blast and can't wait to come back. Thank you Bookers!!
We were seated immediately. Service was excellent. BBQ brisket and ribs were tender and perfectly done. Don’t order the crab. Although not expensive, it wasn’t worth the struggle to get the little meat out. Cherry cheesecake was a delicious finish to our meal. Lots of screens to watch your favourite game.
it was unfortunate that we didn't know all you can eat Crab and Ribs Sunday night price had dramatically increased. Last visit it was $45 and this visit was $57!
too much of an increase to be surprised with.
But super yummy as always! Best crab in the city by far!
Our servers and our waitress were so attentive and pleasant!
Our friends and us have wedding anniversaries 2 days apart so we wanted a night out to celebrate. We like trying different restaurants and not going to the same ole all the time. We weren't disappointed with our choice...it was a great evening with friends, good food & drink. We will recommend to others! We understand the restaurant was extremely busy with the Remembrance Day special so wait staff were run off their feet. Only downside was the ribs on the BBQ platter were very grisly fatty and hard to eat.
Visited restaurant as a get together and Birthday of one member of our party. Food was very good and service was excellent. Portions were large and none of us left hungry. Only negative on this occasion was the noise level which was very loud as we visited the restaurant on Memorial Day. Booker's was recognizing the military and emergency responders on this day. We'll be glad to return in future. Would like to try some of their seafood offerings.
The food was terrible. Over breaded fish, undercooked fries, watered down gumbo, ribs that tasted like they were re heated, corn bread that tasted like the smell of burnt eraser and jalapeño macaroni that just tasted wired. Top it off with one of those plastic bread bag clips among a sandwich. Felt badly for the waitress. I
I had not been to Bookers in years--it was just not top of mind. However, that has now changed with my recent visits. I came in and shared an appetizer platter with one other person. The portion was generous and food was delicious. The ribs were my favorite. Food and service was so good I went back a week later and brought reinforcement with me. That same appetizer platter and a large Caesar salad was the perfect amount of food for 4 people. I'm already planning my next visit!
