Our server Frank was amazing. Eric birthday dinner was perfect
Been to Bookbinders numerous times and just not in last 8 to 10 months. Did not disappoint !!! Same awesome staff, awesome food and ambiance.
Wonderful experience from the time my date and I walked in. It was his birthday and everyone wished him a happy birthday. He loved how the menu had been printed with his name wishing him a happy birthday. Such a nice personal touch. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. Great evening!
Had the best time. We had 8 in our group and were celebrating 4 birthdays. We seemed to meet everyone in the restaraunt. Our group was fun and perhaps a little loud. The staff rolled with our games and the Owner- John was very personable. Heis very involved in the operations and takes much pride in Bookbinders. Food and service was excellent. Usually, we celebrate at Ruths Chris or Mortons.... No more! The custom experience they offer was second to none in Richmond!!!
After hearing all the accolades regarding Bookbinders, I was excited to go there and celebrate my anniversary with my wife. I will preface this review by saying I have never written a disparaging review before. I supposed there is a first time for everything. We got there and was seated immediately. Our waiter asked how we were doing and we told him great and asked him the same. He said fine then complained he had to work on a Saturday. That set the tone for the evening. He was definitely not engaged with us during our meal. The wait staff was clearly confused about which meal belonged to which table, since they were checking each table to see if it was their meal they were carrying. Once the food arrived, after a lengthy wait, it was just average. I expect that meals priced at that level to be exceptional. I ordered lobster and steak. My lobster was overcooked and the filet mignon was nearly tasteless. Unfortunately, we didn't stay for dessert. We were expecting the same. I don't recommend Bookbinders. There are superior steakhouses in Richmond I would rather patronize.
The food was excellent and so was the ambiance. The hostesses were friendly and professional upon our arrival! Our waiter did an excellent job serving our table but he seemed hesitant to swap out my friends side at her request. Other than that, he did good and still get a thumbs up.
We went for a significant anniversary after finding that Tobacco Co. (a 28 year favorite) was closed due to a fire. The ambiance and romance were similar as was the menu. One very nice touch at the start was a custom menu that wished us a happy anniversary by name. The prices were a bit higher, and the service/attention by staff, and preparation of the entrees were almost as good as what we have been accustom to at Tobacco Company.
We split a Ice Berg wedge salad with bleu cheese & bacon. It did not disappoint and was plenty for the two of us. My wife had the scallops and risotto and I had the petite filet Oscar style w/ asparagus.
The only real complaints were that the very limited amount of risotto and the Hollandaise sauce in the respective entrees. Both the quality and amount of scallops and filet (and crab Oscar) were wonderful and cooked to perfection and excellently flavored. Their "version" of petite, was a very thick 8 oz. meaty, expertly seasoned generous portion of steak, where most competitors would have had a 6 oz. at most.
Went to celebrate my Step Daughters 20 birthday. Customized menu for the occasion, quite, great food, unassuming.. Great evening and could not have been happier. Expensive - yes. Once in a lifetime event - priceless.
20th Wedding Anniversary
As always great food and service. During dining, the owner visits each table and converses with guests, which I really appreciate and it also adds a personal touch to the restaurant.
We were seated promptly and were able to finish our meal within an hour of the reservation time. We greatly enjoyed our dinner; all entrees were delicious. I ordered the broiled stuffed salmon, which was phenomenal. Bookbinders is a must-try for Richmond.
Incredible happy hour. Excellent appetizers. The salmon with crabcake was tasty and cooked perfectly
Food was wonderful and ambience was great. Quiet and low lighting made for a nice evening.
The food was extraordinary and the service perfection. This was my first time there, and I will certainly return.
It's always a wonderful experience! I've never been disappointed.
This place is awesome. Service was great. Food was amazing from appetizers to main meal. A little pricey but we'll worth it. Can't wait to make the hour drive back again soon. Parking was convenient
Absolutely top notch service (Timothy)and meal. Miss bookbinders in philly, this was exceptional also.
We wanted to get away from the noise of life and found our whole experience exactly what we needed.
While growing up my family and I visited Bookbinder's in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. My spouse and I don't eat out often by choice, but when we do and it is a special occasion, we go to Bookbinder's, because it is special to me. It still is a restaurant of high quality: the food, the atmosphere, the service. However, it would also be great for dates and business meetings, and other everyday occasions.
Great atmosphere, the food was DELICIOUS! The sides are family style and well worth the price. Try their crab cakes! SO FRESH! This is a great date spot, and the outside is bery romantic. It’s high end dining without bankrupting you like the Jefferson. Definitely a great choice!
I took my girlfriend this past Saturday for her birthday. Let me tell you, is blown away with the atmosphere and superior customer service. Out waitress was very friendly and patient. It was nice to see the owner came out and talk to the customers. The food (steak) was topnotch. Even though it was pricey, I would definitely eat there again, because of the great service. I want to thank the staff for a great job and going the extra mile for my girlfriend birthday. It was a day we want forget 😊
Great steaks and good service. Wine list and cocktails were also very nice. Great setting for a quiet meal but equally nice for business conversation if not too loud. Manager/owner makes a point of visiting every table to talk to guests, but it’s not overwhelming and pushy.
Went for our anniversary. Fantastic food and a great atmosphere!
We celebrated our son’s birthday!! Food was delicious and our server Jeanette was awesome😍
This is our favorite restaurant on the planet! Book Binders can always be counted on for perfection.
Everything was great! We had our 10 year Anniversary and they made us feel special.
Everything was delicious from the wine to the appetizers, main dishes to the luscious key lime pie and frangelica with coffee. Never disappoints. Always fantastic.
Vey nice setting in historical part of town. Staff and management very courteous and attentive. Food--excellent! Crab was outstanding. Prices are fine, not too expensive. Highly recommended!
Perfect choice for a special occasion (40th anniversary). Although pricey ( which we knew after looking at the online menu), the food was superb. We both had the seared tuna and shared lobster Mac n cheese, in addition to appetizers. Our waiter, Chris, was helpful and he took very good care of us, coming around to fill wine and water glasses, and checking in just enough. Even the owner stopped by.
The reviews I read before choosing Bookbinder’s were spot on, and I feel reviews are so helpful, hence I wanted to contribute also.
We are from out of town, and I read lots of reviews before choosing Bookbinder’s. Glad I made such a great choice, and thanks Chris for taking a picture of us so we can remember our wonderful evening.
We had a wonderful, relaxing dinner at Bookbinders. I had an awful week and really just needed some pampering. Dinner, drinks, and dessert were excellent, and the service was perfect--just the right balance of attention and interaction. I can easily see having a nice date night or special occasion dinner here.
I ate here for my 5 year anniversary. Staff was very professional, food was varied and picture perfect and the ambiance was very classic RVA! I highly recommend!
Dinner with out of town guests for my 44th birthday was an exquisite success. I told them we would have the BEST Crabcakes in RVA, and Bookbinder's didn't disappoint. The service & food are always impeccable! As always, thanks for a great celebration & dining experience.
Was amazing. Refer to photos.
We always enjoy dining at Bookbinder’s! It’s our go to place for special occasions and for the once in awhile dining out occasions. The place is beautiful, the service is impeccable, and the food is always excellent. The Snapper Soup is outstanding and I get it every time I go. It’s a Richmomd restaurant not to be missed. It’s truly a special event every time we go.
We celebrated our anniversary on a Monday evening. Not too crowded. Ample parking in the lot across from the entrance. The menu acknowledged our anniversary. Excellent steak and seafood. Wonderful service. We shall return!
Bookbinders is always exceptional. We went there for our anniversary and they had a special message in the menu for us. Joseph did a great job taking care of us and the food was delicious. From beginning to end, it was a wonderful anniversary dinner.
Our server, Tom, was very attentive and even offered to take our pictures. He left us alone when he saw we were engaged in conversation and came back when he saw we needed something. Great atmosphere. Delicious food. Ambiance was great.
excellent all around
As always, a delightful dining experience, excellent, perfectly prepared food, expertly served by Timothy, in a quiet, dignified ambience that makes conversation easy. We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were pleasantly surprised to see at the top of your menu, "Happy Anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. (our name). My favorite restaurant in Richmond.
Excellent steak and service, but pricey. Good for a very special occasion.
