Mentioned it was our client’s birthday in the notes field of the online reservation made same day and they had a PRINTED menu with a personalized Happy Birthday for her. Really wowed the client and all of us. Impressive!

A group of us were visiting Richmond due to running the half marathon/marathon. We booked a reservation through open table. We were pleasantly surprised that our group of 12 were seated in a private room. The food, service, and setting was excellent. We would highly recommend this restaurant, and we will definitely be back!

The only bad part was it was a lot louder than normal due to a rehearsal dinner where they were very loud. It definitely took away from the experience.

Our first time in Richmond. We picked this restaurant for the seafood reviews. Food was delicious (ordered the crabcake and sea scallops for dinner and turtle soup for appetizer). The wine suggestion was excellent. Our server was knowledgable, and helpful with choices. The outside entry was pleasantly decorated with potted plants, and the inside environment was cozy. We will definitely return when back in Richmond.

The food is always excellent here. However, the service on this particular occasion was not what I have come to expect from BB. I assume the server was new to the team, but at this price point, I expect outstanding, consistent service every time.

Awesome dinner and experience from every aspect. The service was great and the food was delicious! I had the surf and turf and my girlfriend had the stuffed salmon. We shared the asparagus and a dessert, Key Lime pie. We will be back as soon as possible.

Our go to place before a show in Richmond. We have yet to find another restaurant in RIC that offers the same quality of food, service and atmosphere as Bookbinders. One may prefer different types of cuisine; however, for steak and seafood this is the place. They have an excellent wine selection and they mix some of the best cocktails in RIC.

Bookbinders has been a favorite of mine for several years, wonderful ambience and spectacular food. The service is top notch and the atmosphere is really cool. I had an awesome 16-ounce NY strip with a baked potato the size of a football. Great place!

Oysters on the half shell: tasted clean, fresh, slightly briny and slightly sweet;
Petit filet mignon: perfectly cooked medium rare with incredible flame broiled flavor

Service was attentive but not intrusive; owner came over to make sure everything was A-OK; hostesses friendly upon arrival and eager to welcome me to the 'perfect' table

Ambience was warm and inviting. Located in a gentrified former warehouse district - very interesting for an out-of-towner

Ladies room was very clean and well maintained

Good choice for many reasons. The reclaimed building is most interesting. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Provides a wide variety of food choices very creative and nicely presented. My favorites are the shrimp cocktail and the halibut olympia but there are many other wonderful choices to fit many tastes.

Our family visited Bookbinder's for my daughter's 40th birthday. She had never been to the restaurant and loved it. Having her name on the Menu was a special touch. She was "afraid" that someone would sing Happy Birthday to her and was pleasantly surprised it did not happen. Thank you for a wonderful evening of great food and thoughtful service. Since we live a distance away, it is our favorite place for special occasions...well worth the 40 minute drive...and we wanted the best for her on her special occasion.

My husband and I were unimpressed with the quality of food and wait staff. The lobster mac had way more mac than lobster, frozen spinach was used for the casserole and it was served room temp, we took the crabcake home but had to throw it away before we got there because we couldnt bear the smell of it, my mixed green salad was the most enjoyable item of my entire dinner. Wouldnt recommend, especially for special occasions!

The food was delicious! I took my boyfriend there for his birthday on 9/30/17! The atmosphere was relaxed and intimate. My waiter was good but had another larger party that he attended to and could have came back around a little more often to check on us. The owner came around and introduced himself so that was really nice of him and engaged in small conversation. I give this restaurant 5 stars! A bit pricey but is worth it! Plenty of parking across the street in the parking lot.

It had been several years since our last visit, and the reservation was to celebrate my husband's birthday. Parking was a breeze, so nice to have a lot across the street. I had the haddock special, and the seared tuna as an appetiser. I probably could have just had the tuna, it came highly recommended by the waiter, not that I didn't enjoy the haddock as well. My questions about the source of the seafood was answered, and as I do try and stay away from farm raised salmon, I chose the haddock instead. Veggies were enough to share.

We went to Bookbinder's for our anniversary. Upon arriving, the hostess handed us our menus ans escorted us to our table. When we opened the menus, we saw they had printed special menus for us, wishing us a happy anniversary. Nice touch.
The noise level was medium, except for one guy seated at a table about 20 feet away from us. He may have been hard of hearing, or maybe he just wanted everyone to notice him, but his voice was caused the overall noise level to go up several notches.
The waiter's initial visit to our table was uneventful . He had no noticeable personality, but that's OK, as long as he delivers decent service. After the first visit, he practically didn't come back to the table. He would pass by our table on his way to another table and ask under his breath if everything was OK. This happened maybe 5 times. When we were ready for the check, he brought it, but didn't offer the usual congenialities, like "have a great evening", "happy anniversary", "kiss my foot", or anything else. The food runners were prompt and friendly.
The food was, overall, very good. I had the halibut, and the wife had stuffed salmon. Of course, we tasted each other's dishes, and hers was good, but mine was better. We had appetizers - mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto (very good), raw oysters (they were good, but the cocktail sauce could have used a bit more horseradish), shrimp bisque (I'm not a soup person, but the wife liked it). We also had desserts. The creme brulee was very good, and the key lime pie was good, but it would have been better if it hadn't been on an Oreo crust with chocolate drizzled on it. I'm a chocolate person, but key lime pie should be light and refreshing. The addition of the chocolate made it too heavy. If it had had a standard graham cracker crust, it would have been excellent.
Bookbinder's isn't a place we go to often. It's expensive and there are so many other fine restaurants in Richmond. The overall experience was very good.
