This was a date night for me and the wife. We arrived 15 minutes early for out reservation and were seated immediately. Our waiter was on point all night and the appetizers and meals arrived in a timely manor.

I try to go as often as I can. Its great with special friends and all enjoy the cozy atmosphere. The filets are the best in town and the Lobster mac and cheese is always a big hit. Still remains my favorite restaurant in Richmond. Like to get there about 45 minutes before seating to enjoy the bar, we love Morgan, she seems to always be there. We have had large groups there as well and they have great private accommodations.
Strongly recommend Bookbinders!

The food and ambiance was excellent. The waitress was horrible. She continuously reached across me to pour drinks and conduct refills. Most unacceptable was when she handed my wife coffee with spilled coffee on the saucer. I gave my coffee and clean saucer to my wife, handed my wife's coffee back to waitress, just to have her pour the coffee on her tray and hand it back to me. I immediately asked for a new cup of coffee with a clean saucer. I get better service at Starbucks and do not have to pay over $200 for a meal.

Really nice restaurant and the food was incredible. The stuff salmon and scallops were tremendous. The only negative is the atmosphere was dull, this includes the bar. Not a place for fun

The overall meal was good but not as good as previous visits. Food temperature wasn’t quite as hot as it should have been. My filet was butterflied without asking as I would normally expect the waiter to ask. Tyler did not ask me. The soup portion was tiny and not worth the $7 price. Creme Brûlée was also sub par and disappointing. We have dined here in numerous occasions including special o events and business dinners. Overall sadly, I would choose other steakhouses as my first choice rather than returning here anytime soon.

My husband and I visited Bookbinder’s on a very cold late December evening for his birthday dinner.
Unfortunately, we were not very hungry when it came time for our reservation, but we enjoyed our meal nonetheless.
We were greeted by a friendly server with water who happened to be our server for the evening. I ordered a Manhattan - with my requested Basil Hayden’s bourbon, and he ordered an old fashioned. Both drinks were very nice.
My husband had an arugula salad which was delightful, and we both ordered the rockfish entree, which was served over wild rice with a pecan sauce. We had a side of asparagus to share. We found the dishes to be enjoyable and had no complaints about our meals. We did not order steaks, however, we saw a neighboring table’s fillet mignon, and it looked great.
The ambiance in this place was a wonderful “loft” feeling, with exposed brick, and was decorated nicely for he holidays.
The menu is primarily seafood, and I would highly recommend for those who enjoy such. It would have been nice to see some non shellfish appetizers, as we would’ve likely ordered if that were he case.
The dessert menu was tantalizing, however we skipped dessert this time.
I would’ve been pleased if they would have done at least something for his birthday, as it was listed on our reservation. Our server did wish him a happy birthday when we were seated, but that was the extent of it.

Through the whole night my girlfriend and I felt discriminated against for simply being 20 years old. We had to wait 10 minutes for our server to even stop by and give us water. We weren’t informed what the soup of the day or specials were, the only way we found out was from other servers telling couples around us. Our server Asia told us that she straight up forgot to give us bread, after we were already were done with our appetizer. Meanwhile she would walk right by us and act like we were invisible, another server had to keep refilling our water because she would never check on us. Once our entrees were brought out my girlfriend didn’t receive any dressing for her seafood salad for about 15 minutes. We resorted to asking the same server who kept filling up our water because he was around doing his job. Not to mention she never once came and ask how everything was and how we were doing. Asia, the server, finally made it around to put my girlfriends food in a to go box proceeding to ask if we wanted desert. We politely declined the offer and she responded with “aww you sure”. So if we declined desert and had our dinner packaged up, the assumption could be made that we were ready for the check but Asia came and dropped off the food not bringing the check until another 15 minutes. It took about 25-30 minutes just to pay the check. Through the entire night Asia was very unprofessional for the type of restaurant Book Binders claims to be and honestly didn’t feel like we were worth her time because we were younger. To some it up the expectations we had going into the night were not even matched to lowest extent. I was very disappointed!

A very modern menu with plenty of local farm to table choices mixed in with some Bookbinder classics--turtle soup, Caesar salad and large juicy steaks. Lots of seafood and fresh fish options for the non-beef eaters. Terrific and warm bar upon entering and a delicious meal followed. A great combination and a lovely evening.

Everything was very good to excellent with only one exception. I ordered the Mahi Mahi grilled not blackened. It came grilled but with a blackening spice on it. The meat was tender and juicy and very delicious but I was obliged to try to remove the spices from the entree in order to enjoy my meal. Service by Asia was terrific. She was very attentive but not overbearing. The ambiance of the restaurant is fantastic.

We have a family of 4 Christmas dinner at a notable steak house each year (e. g. Ruth Chris, Buckheads). Entire family has not dined at Bookbinders including 17 yr. old and 22. yr. old. Food was tasty and steaks on par with Ruth Chris; however, service was less than lackluster. We felt rushed an service staff seemed bothered to serve us.

Went for Christmas dinner. The food was outstanding! There was a limited menu for the holiday, but a variety of choices in each course to choose. The atmosphere was pleasant although not overly done with Christmas decorations. Overall I think it was a little over priced for the occasion.

It was my wife's and my 1st Wedding Anniversary! Neither of us had been there, so I decided to surprise my wife with reservations! I'm SO happy that I did! Food was great, but the service and ambience was even better! Even had a customized "Happy Anniversary" menu waiting for us! And to top it off, the owner came over and doled out some excellent marital words of wisdom! Highly recommend!

honestly, i expected more after all i'd heard about bookbinders. plus, i stay away from the chains and try to dine local whenever i possibly can. that said, the service was sub-par. they seemed annoyed that we showed up with a group of 12 people. i mean, it's christmas time and they're the "premier, non-chain steakhouse" in richmond. it's time to step it up. the apps were decent and everyone enjoyed their steaks well enough, but i actually had to send my steak back (twice!) to get it cooked the right way. that's like a ticket to the dance for a steakhouse: bring it out, have your customers cut it, and ask if the temp is right. didn't happen. for a $50+ steak - you need to get it right at some point. after the second attempt i just gave up. the owner was super-nice and gave us a gift card, but i still feel compelled to tell it like it is, because open table asked. i'll give it another go and if things are better i'll be back to update this.
