All food served was great on this visit.
The food was very good, wine list extensive and service was great. Overall a very fine meal.
Wonderful food! Great service and beautiful outdoor area!
This is a wonderful restaurant with a beautiful court yard for out door seating. We had a wonderful time. The food was delicious. The prices are high but worth it for a special occasion.
Phenomenal service and phenomenal food! It’s always a pleasure to dine here.
I would highly recommend this establishment. The food was amazing and was glad that I had chose this restaurant for my 15 yr anniversary. Will be going back just for a date night.
We set outside on the new patio and had the best time ever. The food was out of this world, the services was good. Heaters are available to keep you nice and warm while you enjoy the beautiful views and sounds of the water features. Absolutely one of the best places in Richmond.
Fantastic for our anniversary! Will definitely return.
This was our second time dining at Bookbinder's. I grew up in South Jersey and knew of Bookbinder's reputation in the Philadelphia area as being the place to go and was excited to hear it had come to Richmond, but never dined there until a little over a month ago. We've now gone twice in a little over two mos. and I'm sure we will be back many more times.
Always a good experience here
Excellent. Great choice.
Not a first timer here:
The courtyard is beautiful. The food is very good. The staff is very knowledgeable and pleasant. There are multiple places to get the same meal for 2/3 the price. Table of 4 $540.00. You just won’t find a place at a lower price point that has mastered each item on their menu.
With that said, The thing about Bookbinders is, each person at your table will have a great experience. 4 different plates all done just as good as the next. There’s no specialty since each plate is special.
We both agreed that the snapper soup taste seems to have changed. (Is it us or the recipe?) I don't think the crab cakes use what used to be lump crabmeat, which were long pieces of crab. (I understand that the industry is having problems with crabs these days.) Lastly, the lobster mac & cheese was so disappointing that the charge was dropped from our bill. The reason? The lobster was cooked in the tomato sauce and you could not taste or see it. Last month, we had the lobster mac & cheese dish at 99 Sea Level in Bethany Beach DE for the second time and you could see the lobster pieces. No tomato sauce was used. As a result, two weeks later, I made the same thing with 4 oz. of macaroni, 3 cheeses (Gruyere, Parmesan, and sharp cheddar) and one lobster tail. The only comment I made was to use two tails the next time.
Sat at the bar and Alex was our bartender. She's very good at her job.
Everything was excellent except dinner for three was $$$$
Fantastic waiter Chris , he made my mother’s post 81st birthday extra special. Great food , but prices a bit high since meals / entrees don’t come with standard sides, it’s too expensive once you add enhancements! Can only go to restaurant for extra special occasions … and the gelato was the best I’ve ever had ! Thank you !
Our waitress was superb, the food did not disappoint, and I was left wondering why I don’t come more frequently …. However, I will be returning soon.
Excellent food and service will definitely come back
Secon time at this restaurant and still love it. I had oysters on half shell and the sesame crusted yellowfin tuna with spicy shrimp and cucumber salad (delicious). My husband had jumbo shrimp cocktail and petite filet (very tender) with a baked potato. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. I greatly recommend this restaurant.
Awesome place for a special occasion. Delicious food and great service. Pricey but worth it!
OMG I can not begin to tell you how good and fabulous everything was. The restaurant is just gorgeous. The food was delightful and our server was so cheerful. Thank you for a wonderful experience❤️
Great service and even better food and drinks!
Steaks were excellent. Server was great. Parking is a hassle.
Excellent menu and wine list. We had a wonderful table outside on their patio. The service and our meal were outstanding! Tables are nicely spaced apart. A great place to enjoy a nice dinner and evening again. Highly recommend!
There was no question where we would be spending our anniversary - Bookbinders is a perfect place for a special day. But tonight was even better than expected. From getting to learn about the koi pond to our wonderful waiter, (I wish I could remember his name - maybe Brian or Dave?), every little extra was provided. Worth the money every time!
My Husband and I were in Richmond for business and wanted to have a nice dinner because we were very hungry and leaving the following day.
We split a beet salad. It was tasty but had too much vinegar. My Husband had a glass of wine and I had a very weak iced tea.
My Husband ordered Filet Mignon. It was very tender and large. It was deliciously prepared as requested except they forgot the béarnaise sauce. The server brought it quickly. It was very thick and cold. It was quite good but we expected it thinner and at least room temperature.
I ordered scallops and they were deliciously prepared, large, tender and sweet; but, there were a few crunches with sand. Scallops are difficult to clean but for the price, they should not have any sand. The grits were tasty with the scallops but had a lot of hulls. I left most because of the hulls.
Their little potato balls were tasty, and about 75 cents to a dollar each. We had them boxed along with some Filet. We also had a slice of Key Lime pie for takeout and it was a nice treat later on in the evening.
The food was very good as well as the Server. We enjoyed the meal but the price was much more than expected, especially with the minor problems.
With a good tip (over 20%), it was one of the most expensive dinners we have had! And, we live in a large Metropolitan area and frequently dine
We have always wanted to dine at Bookbinders when we visited Philadelphia. We were pleased to find Bookbinders also in Richmond! We probably would dine at Bookbinders in Philadelphia since we visit there at least once per year; but, it would probably have to be a special occasion if they are as expensive.
This was the second time we have been to Bookbinders and it is fabulous.
We stopped here last spring on our way back home From Naples, Florida and fell in love with this restaurant.
So now we were driving back to Naples for the season and we could not wait to have dinner there again.
We totally enjoyed our meal once again and now this restaurant will be are go to restaurant when we are driving back from and forth to Naples.
First time visit (out-of-towners) to Bookbinders fulfilled our special family outing. Our party of six ran their menu gamut. Great cocktails to start, my Sazerac was as good as New Orleans. Various openers (apps, soups, salads) were well prepared and enjoyed. The "world famous" snapper soup was quite tasty, though more snapper flavor than snapper meat. The evening's halibut special was very good. My scallops were perfectly done and delicious, but arrived at the table too cool for my taste. The quality of the steaks was outstanding. Though several agreed the ancho rub was too much and overpowered the ribeye. The lobster mac and cheese was the evening's disappointment and to be avoided unless you just love any mac and cheese. Grandson raved about his chocolate pate dessert. Our waiter, Alejandro, was perfecto, and the owner made us feel especially welcome. The bill was sky high and I was happy to help Bookbinders weather the now irrational covid mandates. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Bookbinders. My overall impression is that this venerable restaurant largely delivers on its promise, but is leaning a little too much on its reputation.
