Delicious dinner and amazing service!
The food was average and the service was slow..though not the fault of the waiter who was over taxed. I got the Rockfish which was oversalted. The others in our party got the tenderloin which was very good. The salad and crab soup was amazing, but did not make up for the rest of the meal. At $70 per person, this was abysmal.
Server was not attentive. I had to ask her what the specials and desserts were. Offered the bare minimum of service. There was another serve that had two other servers that offered excellent service so there was just a stark contrast to the service we recieved.
Let me start this by saying I have heard about Bookbinders since I was young. Best steak in Richmond multiple times..
The steak(New York strip)was...Ok. It was cooked exactly like I asked for. A perfect medium rare. There is a lot to be said for that but at 60.00, I expect more from the steak itself. The seasoning, cut, and texture was very reminiscent of Texas Roadhouse. In fact you can get that steak there on the right evening. The two apps we ordered clams casino and oysters Rockefeller were....good. Generous portion for the price and party size. The turtle soup was good, but had not a trace of actual meat in it. Maybe that’s how it was meant to be(waiter gave no input)but I was excited to try turtle and got the richest, tastiest brown gravy I’ve ever experienced.
My wife’s dish was the special of the day. A rockfish filet with saffron cauliflower purée and multi colored carrots.
She loved it. I will say it was executed beautifully, the rockfish filet was a size rarely seen and cooked perfectly. Her dish was worth every penny from top to bottom.
By far the dish that let us both down the most was the corn au gratin. It was canned corn that was not tender and whether or not the au gratin was worth its side price of 12.00 was blinded by this.
The dessert was the most impressive. The chocolate Patè was a delicious ending that mellowed my feelings of resentment that had been building.
Now... Covid.... Is that why we experienced Bookbinders this way? Unfortunately I am not sure because we didn’t make it to this establishment prior.
Service was also not as expected from a restaurant of this quality either.. Nothing on the menu was explained and specials were only offered after request. Dirty dishes were left on the table exceptionally long IMO for a restaurant of this price caliber. I will say with today’s discerning restaurants offering such fresh, made from scratch fare this restaurant left me wanting more.
I will also add that my wife of 9y doesn’t agree.
Another great evening at one of our favorite restaurants. We had raw clams, seafood salad, and salmon stuffed with crab. All yummy snd fresh!
Always an exceptional dining experience with friendly waitstaff. Steaks are cooked perfectly and seafood fresh and tasty. Wine list abbreviated I suppose due to Covid. Will continue to support a local favorite!
As always, an amazing dining experience!! Our server was incredible and the food was perfect. One of the best restaurants in the country.
My wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here and we loved the ambiance, great food, and service. This is our favorite restaurant by far.
A great dinner experience the wine list was very nice and our steak was delicious
Great service, beautiful space, excellent food
We hosted our wedding reception here, my grandfather's 90th birthday, and now my birthday at Bookbinders. We love the atmosphere, the food is so yummy, and all the staff are friendly from the time you enter the door. The owner walks around and speaks to everyone. You will feel very welcomed here and like your family.
The outside area was gorgeous! We went for my 30th birthday, and they even printed custom menus, nice touch! Kenny was our waiter and he was fun and personable. Food was great, and our cocktails were delicious.
This is a wonderful place to go for an elegant meal with fantastic food, but you will pay for it. The swordfish was phenomenal. I thought it superior to the filet ordered by other members of my party. The lobster mac n cheese was a favorite of the group as well. The staff was very accommodating to dietary restrictions
The food was good and the service was excellent. I just didn't think the food justified the prices.
Dining at Bookbinder's is a certain way to make for a special evening. Food is always excellent!
From our arrival until the very end, Bookbinders did not disappoint. The staff was incredibly professional, friendly, and courteous (Kona was the best). The seafood dishes we had were phenomenal and the wines were top notch.
I have not dined out much this year and had high expectations for the experience. All were met, including the staff's management of social distancing and sanitizing practices.
When I return to the area, I will definitely be back. Many thanks!
Kenny is the man
Over priced. Not great. Decor is outdated, poor lighting and very loud.
Bookbinder is a restaurant high on our list of 'must' go to and make a favorite. Food, Service and atmosphere are perfect! all food was perfectly cooked and delicious. The wait staff were friendly, helpful and easy to talk with - they made our visit excellent!
Great food. Somewhat pricey though. I’d love to visit more but the prices make this place a special occasion restaurant.
Excellent as always
Great dinner with a couple coworkers. Solid menu and wine list. Spectacular filet and side dishes.
I took a friend here for a special first date here. The food was great our waiter Kenny was excellent and knowledgeable. Kenny made sure our night was special and even gave us a complimentary champagne toast. Needless to say he was impressed and we had a fabulous evening. Definitely going back.
The food was amazing. There were 6 of us and everyone enjoyed. Our waiter was fantastic. Everything came out as ordered. There was ample space between diners and we felt very safely distanced. We will definitely be going back!
I thought even though we were seated for 40 minutes before getting served due to a confusion of table assignments as soon as the over sight was realized... They apologized multiple times the waiter seemed extra attentive and they insisted on paying for our dinner even though we were not upset about it... That to me show incredible integrity... We will defiantly go again.
We had a wonderful evening. This was our first time to try Bookbinder's. The food was great. We enjoyed dining on the patio.
It was wonderful
This was my first time eating here. The food itself was excellent and the service that was received was awesome as well. I like how they personalize the menu for your occasion. Definitely will return soon.
We had a wonderful experience. The ambiance, food and service are all designed to make you feel special. Few places anywhere provide a better experience to celebrate something special in your life. My wife of 30 years and I celebrated our 30th anniversary - It was a perfect evening.
The food was great. The service was amazing . Truly the best all around place to eat in Richmond .
The food was absolutely delicious!
The coffee rub steak was amazing, added the crab cake and it was also amazing, full of meat and very well seasoned.
It was my daughter’s 34th birthday. I love the fact they printed specialize birthday menus for her and the birthday dessert was amazing as well as . They also gave dessert for the table , I thought that was very very nice.
Our waitress, I believe her name was Jessica. She was absolutely amazing ,great service ,very polite ,and took great care of us.
The cowboy bone in ribeye was so amazingly tender and seasoned to perfection. The stuffed salmon was also great. The jumbo shrimp incredibly big —the largest fried shrimp I’ve ever seen.
We really enjoyed the food and service...
This was an awesome place to eat! Great food & service!! Very nice date date 😊
I have been to few steak places in Richmond. The steak wasn’t seasoned enough and the lobster Mac and cheese did not have visible lobster in it.
We overall had an okay experience. We enjoyed the ambience and our food was delicious. The service on the other hand was another story. Our server seemed overloaded and continuously complained a party he was working in the other room. It seemed like we were playing second fiddle to that party. I understand things happen, but we were spending over $200 on a party of 2 so there's a level of service that should come with that. Our dinner was suppose to be a celebration and the service l definitely dampened the mood. I would to trying again based off the food, hoping it was just an off night.
Nothing but good comments- loved the atmosphere, service was above and beyond, food out of this world delicious!! Will definitely be back!
The food was fantastic. The Kona Coffee crusted Filet may easily be one of the best steaks I have had.
Wonderful, staff, wonderful food!! Always a pleasure
