Excellent service, fresh ingredients, great ambiance. Good value.
We were seated right away. Our server was very attentive until the last moment when we had to pay she was I think pulled away to help elsewhere so we were waiting to pay for quiet a while before someone else came over. Overall the food was okay. I like my lemon sauce pasta and salad with poached pears and tiramisu was good too but not excellent. I wasn’t wowed. With so many other restaurants to try still in Calgary I wouldn’t come back. Don’t get me wrong: Nothing was bad. But nothing was exceptional as well.
The food was good, but the service was not. There seemed to be some wait staff who were quite attentive and informative, but our waitress was not. We also had to wait a very long time before anyone even spoke to us when we arrived, and had to wait again to then be seated.
We find Bonterra to be so dependable. Hubby especially loves the lamb shank, I like knowing there are Gluten Free options for me. The service is always excellent. We also like that we can hear each other talk. There is such a trend now towards loud dining in tables set too close together. We love that we can have a real date and talk about life and not feel we need to yell over the din.
Amazing service, Amazing food, Great ambiance. Hands down the best pasta I've had in Calgary. On the higher end for price point but well worth every penny.
Best food! Lovely server. Can’t wait to enjoy the patio again this summer.
First time I left hungry at an Italian restaurant, didn't think it was ever possible.
Once again Bonterra Trattoria knocked it out of the park. We decided to try their "Big Taste" offering... and were NOT disappointed. Salad.. great! Main course... awesome! Desert... wonderful! No wonder we've made Bonterra Trattoria one of our "go to" restaurants. They never fail to impress.
Food was very good and nice hospitality since we arrived
Food was good as expected, however it took a while for everything to arrive. Not good for downtown lunches where you have to be back to the office in an hour.
Hidden gem, delicious food options, great presentation and they had great service. Treated the kids special too!
In a word - disappointed. Initial greeting with hostess and waiter were very good. Seated at 5:30 on a Thursday to a virtually empty restaurant. Wine and first course of soup came quickly and tasted great. And then the two of us sat and waited. Large groups came in and were attended to as our main courses that were ordered off the specials menu took over half an hour to come out. If it’s on the specials menu what’s with the delay. No update or interaction with the waiter during that time. It was a gamble to order desert. Guess what - we lost, another delay. After placing my credit card on the table, a manager noticed that maybe they should bring the bill over. So 2 hours for 3 simple courses turned good food at a nice restaurant to just an ok experience. After being a Open Table user for many years and this is the first review that I have written, should tell you something.
This was to be a special meal in celebration of my step-son's birthday -- being a student, he'd never spend the money himself. Not that this is super expensive. It's just that, well, if you're going to enjoy exquisite fare like this, and it IS exquisite, you don't want to have to be too worried about the budget and cheat yourself of, say, an appetizer or desert or the extra bottle of wine you might want because the evening is going so enjoyably well. All 4 of us had appetizers, 1st course, 2nd course, and desert. The menu was well sampled. None of us thought any of the dishes were merely "good"--rather, everything we tried, we all agreed: Excellent. Exceptional.
Thank you to Bonterra for a wonderful evening. I knew it would be great, (because I've been quite a few times before) and it was great.
Excellent food. The service was quick and friendly and the price was very reasonable.
Our go to for every anniversary. Takes us back to Italy every time.
We have been fans of Bonterra for years, so I don’t know what went wrong on Friday night. Our meal was so disappointing. The minestrone soup was so salty that we could barely eat it (and I love salt). My husband had the Insalata Verde and said it was gritty. He left more than half of it. 2 of us had the Bison Ravioli. All we could say was “yuck”. One person had the pork chop and said it was good. The 4th diner’s meal was delivered about 10 minutes after the rest of us due to a “kitchen mishap” according to our server. I had the Affogato for dessert. The espresso was cold and it was served in a glass that was so tall that it was impossible to dip the biscotti into it.
Since we have enjoyed Bonterra in the past, I hope things improve. I would like to go back, but will closely watch the reviews before considering another visit.
Food was creative and delicious but portion sizes were tiny. $160 for our meal, and ended up stopping on the way home because we were still hungry.
The main and dessert were just OK - although fairly expensive.
The bill for lunch exceeded food quality and service.
Family visiting from UK.
John was a great server with experience. He made the dining experience even better. Each bite of food had incredible flavor.
Highly recommend the tasting menu! Pastas are made in house which isn’t always the case when dining Italian. Servers are very knowledgeable about both the food and the wine menu. Great place for a date night!
Perfect ambiance for a special, romantic and comfortable evening meal. Service was very professional with guidance and suggestions for a great wine and meal choices for a late evening meal. Thank you
We loved our server! He did a fantastic job!
It took us 2.5 hours to finish a 4 course menu!
Slow service even though we were the first ones to show for dinner. Taste menu super small quantities more than usual, the main was lamb but I had more fat in my meat than actually meat. I asked for a subsitituion for my dessert for another menu that they had available and even though the desserts were the same price, they did not let me do it (which is ok but not even saying I see I can do for it)...I dont think I would go back...
The food was not very good this time. Usually very good. This time it was quite average tasting and the restaurant is too pricey for average food.
This is the second time in 6 months we have taken friends to Bonterra Trattoria. Both times were excellent.
Great place. John was very helpful with the menu and my intolerance.
The food was outstanding! The service was excellent. The big fireplace adds character and ambience. Definitely a great Friday evening!
Everything was great until the end. We waited about 20 minutes after desert and coffee to see the waitress again. Felt disregarded! Kind of fouled up the mood of the evening.
Great food and service. Would definitely go back.
It was really cold every time someone came through the back door. Food and service was great, a little more expensive than I was expecting but still reasonable.
It was our first time at Bonterra Trattoria and we really enjoyed it. The service was excellent and the food absolutely delicious. We had the taster menu. It was a little pricy but worth it the price; it was so good we wish we would had more. We plan on going back for another special occasion and we definitely recommend this restaurant. There is also offer 50 free parking stalls in the back of the restaurant which is a big plus going downtown for dinner.
Went there to celebrate a special family event. Most of our party of 6 had the tastings menu and we all found the food excellent and we spent 3 hours over the four courses with lots of wine and conversation. one of our go to places to take guests.
Great food and great service, as always.
I went there dinner for girls night.. We did not much know about menu (Italian foods) server kindly explained and recommended foods. Foods were so good taste and right size of portion. We ordered pizza as well located beside Bonterra. Patio looks so good we want to go there summer again and try pizza bar soon.
After going to this restaurant many times over the past ~10 years, this time was not good. We were one of the first tables in for lunch, and the restaurant never got above half full. Our food took over 40 min to arrive, even though we both ordered the daily "special". Other tables were served bread and offer pepper for the meals, we were not. Other tables also received their food before us, even though we ordered before them, and the same. The special was ravioli, and it was very bland. could have used some tomatoes or basil or olives, or flavour (or even pepper, if we had been offered). The server asked how our food was and when we told him it was fairly bland, he just said "oh" and walked away.
Food was great but music seemed to be too loud and was difficilt to converse with colleagues.
continues to be a favorite place to go for great food.
Good food, great atmosphere, friendly service. The only downside, for an Italian restaurant they have very few pasta choices.
