Food is very good and consistently high quality. Service was superb. Our waiter was friendly, very knowledgable about the wine selections, attentive and accomodating. Really made this a first rate dining experience. Ambience is modern in a renovated historic building.
Understanding December is a busy time for most restaurants, the service provided an unsatisfactory experience at this restaurant. It was our first time trying it out, however, once we were seated nobody acknowledged us and we were trying to be patient as we were already seated for 20 minutes. We managed to get the attention of a server to request for water. We waited 15 minutes more until I decided to approach the hostess to let them know that we understand they're busy but we have been seated for about 30+ minutes without anyone acknowledging our table to at least introduce themselves as our server, get drink orders and let us know that it's busier than usual and that they'll be right with us. For an expensive restaurant, I expect at least this courtesy. Once this was flagged with the hostess, we were provided the service within minutes, which made up for the lack of it in the beginning. Overall, the ambiance was nice but I've had better Italian food.
The food was tasty as always and the service was really outstanding
We had a great birthday dinner. Our server Pat made the night extra great. We had the mussels, chicken, Brussels sprouts and spinach salad. All the food was outstanding. Looking forward to the next night there.
After waiting some time to actually eat at Bonterra, overall, it was a disappointment.
1. The service was good and the ambience OK, although it was a very full and very
noisy restaurant in the midst of the Christmas rush
2. The wine list was good value for money and the Alligiri we ordered was excellent
3. The homemade bread and butter was a nice touch
4. The rest of the food was disappointing. The Carpaccio was so overloaded with
cheese it looked like a pizza (perhaps some people might think that is good value
for money, I get it but it is not how Carpaccio is to be served) the Tuscan Rabbit
was bland and uninspiring and the Tagliatelle was stodgy and without flavour. My
wife's Spaghetti Alle Vongole? Just OK
5. The Walnut Olive Oil Cake was very good but could not rescue the feeling that
at $257 for two, we did not get good value.
In the future, I will stick with Mercato...its a little bit more more, but you will get
something special, and isn't that the point?
Food was good+, but not exceptional. Service was fast - too fast actually as we felt rushed and had too many plates on a smaller sized table for 4, so constantly organizing. The only real disappointment though, was being charged $15 for water, when the bill was already $270 for 2 adults and 2 kids. At the onset we were asked if we wanted tap, still, or sparkling water (no pricing disclosed) .. and the replies included all of the above meaning for a hardly touched bit of still water I paid $7.50, and likewise $7.50 for sparking.
These appeared to be smaller 750 or 1 litre bottles as well. To me that's just gauging - hardly necessary and definitely blemishes the experience. Call me cheap, but I think Bonterra is being cheap... buy a water filter and a soda stream like everywhere else.
Arancini, Calamari and Carbonara are amazing!
It has been tooooo long between visits! Tremendous evening reconnecting with friends, enjoying great food and wine. Definitely have to cut down the time between visits!
The food is undeniably delicious, service was excellent, we were waited on hand and foot. I don’t think I had to pour water for myself during the entire meal. Just be prepare to pay for the experience.
The Calamari is crave worthy!!
This place was amazing! The food was so good. We had to wait awhile for drinks because the bar was super busy but they gave us some bubbly while we waited. I would recommend the calamari and arancini. Yum!
Lovely as always. Nice seasonal menu,in this favourite restaurant of ours.
Excellent Italian Restaurant Chef Kevin cooked up some very good food !
Our favourite special occasion restaurant!
Loved each course.
As always, a great experience. Somewhat limited vegetarian options. Solid overall meal.
It was our first time, as we are visitors to Calgary, and it was amazing on all levels!! I recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting great food, great service, and a great atmosphere!!
I can’t believe we’ve waited as long to try this place as we have! We are Italian and this is by far the most exciting Italian meal we’ve ever had in Calgary. The flavour profiles were interesting and dynamic and every dish had its own flair and flavor. The Fior de latte with the bread was incredible, we had the beets and the carbonara as well which both I would recommend and the Arancini was delicious. I’d also highly recommend the bartender‘s choice drink, it was delicious. We will definitely be back again and recommending to friends and family. Definitely one of the noisy restaurants we’ve been to so just be prepared for that.
Dinner was good! A bit of a long wait to get drinks but our server apologized that bar was backed up.
Unfortunately they gave away our reservation to someone else and we had to wait… That is unacceptable. My wife seafood was way over cooked
Food was great. Focaccia is a MUST.! Arancini balls are good but ask for a side of Marinara. Pasta Bolognaise and the Carbonara were AMAZING! Service was top notch. Casual, energetic fun evening out.
The food and service was excellent as always. One of our favourite's in Calgary!
Always an exceptional experience. We'll be back soon.
Poor service. Rude waiter. Untimely delivery of food with almost no one in the restaurant
Came here for my birthday and it was amazing!!! Everything was reasonably priced especially for the portions! We got brussel sprouts, palenta, and the aranccini to start and they were AMAZING. All of our pastas were great too i had lots to take home. Our server was so friendly and funny and thanked us for supporting the business! I loved the venue for pictures and just the overall atmosphere. They brought me out champagne and tiramisu for my birthday as well which was also so thoughtful! Will definitely be back!
Our server was absolutely great- not only was she attentive and efficient, she was especially kind to me as I was a bit panicked after leaving my cell phone in the Uber - AND she did all she could to help me track it down. So appreciated that. And of course the food and wine was EXCEPTIONAL!
Great food, great service, will alway go to the resturant for dinner again.
Service was poor; did not clear extra place settings until appetizers were brought, did not ring in mains timely,
Food was cool (not cold), dressings were watery, fish was rubbery, meatballs had sinews and other fat.
Taliatelle with Sunday Supper sauce very disappointing
Awesome place. Delicious Food. Wonderful Service.
Focused menu with delicious pastas and all kinds of appetizers. We look forward to returning!
The restaurant was EXTREMELY noisy at 7pm when we arrived. The server was slow to recognize us and when he did, it still took quite some time to get our drinks. His attentiveness was less than we expected - likely die to the amount of clientele he was serving. The food service was quick, however, the food was rather bland. We needed to ask for salt and pepper which the server then provided using large mills for which the amounts given were difficult to control.
We had a splendid Friday evening meal to celebrate our anniversary. The starters, mains and desserts were all top-notch, and the service was gracious and well paced. The place was full, which made for a nice, bustling atmosphere.
We'll definitely go again.
Best food and service in the city!
Despite reading several good reviews, the food was a disappointing experience for us. Taste was not great. Presentation also not great. Our server was nice but the hostess was not very welcoming.
A relaxing dinner. You cannot be in a hurry. It was busy!
Excellent service and great ambiance. Sadly I didn’t fancy the food. Being an Italian I found it a little Americanized. My Ravioli was a little under cooked and every bite tasted different, it was not consistent in taste.
We were also there for a special occasion and there was a quick question about it at the front but that was it.
Bonterra never disappoints!! The food and service are always excellent. We had an exceptional lunch with a lovely serving staff and the day manager was so attentive to every table. You can’t beat the Bonterra patio in the summer. Probably the nicest patio in Calgary. Saying that the inside could really do with a make over. It’s pretty dated. If the inside matched the outside that would be magic!!
Delicious food, excellent service. We had a wonderful experience. Thank you so much. We’ll be back.
Great quality food, great quality service. I would absolutely return
The service at Bonterra was great but the lamb dish I like is no more on the menu
