Boneyard Bistro Ratings and Reviews
I have enjoyed boneyard since it opened. I am sorry that the owner Aaron is spending less time at the restaurant now that his other place has opened. He always added a nice touch. His wife is there and she has a winning personality that adds to the ambiance of the place. The beef ribs are one of the best available east of topanga Blvd His corn muffins are outstanding along with what I consider the best Cole slaw in LA. Noisy at times due to the lack of carpet and sound absorbing wall coverings. Walker is a wonderful waitperson who always makes sure the customer is happy.
As always, both food and beverage were excellent. Brad makes fabulous cocktails so I like to sit at the bar at first even when we will be seated for dinner. I love the baby back ribs, especially because I can get them "dry" when so many other restaurants don't offer that option but rather slather them with sauce (which is fine for many people but not for me). Service is always friendly and professional.
Our server was very patient with us, as it was our first time dining there. She gave an honest opinion as to what to try (the beef ribs, brisket, and pulled pork) and what to pass on this time around (chicken, sausage). I had the brisket (I elected to keep it fatty) and the St. Louis ribs, wet (there were also options for "dry" and "Cajun rubbed"). The brisket was phenomenal, and the ribs were just ok. They weren't as "fall-off-the-bone" as I thought they'd be, and I didn't find them wet enough—thankfully, they provided some extra sauce on the side. For sides, I had the fried macaroni and cheese (okay), the baked beans (good), and cole slaw (not to my liking). Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I'd go back again.
FOOD WAS NOT GOOD, PORTIONS WERE SMALL. I ALWAYS EXPECT BBQ TO BE TENDER AND FALL OFF THE BONE. THIS WAS CHEWY AND TOUGH. I HEARD IT WAS A GREAT PLACE BUT I DONT AGREE. THIS WAS MY ONE AND ONLY VISIT TO BONEYEARD BISTRO. SORRY TO BE SO TOUGH, BUT THEY DONT FIT INTO THE BBQ MOST DINNERS HAVE COME TO EXPECT.
We chose to go this night because Hatch Chile Menu Specials were being offered. When I think of Hatch Chile, spicy and flavorful come to mind. The two dishes we chose were flavorful but lacked heat. I understand cooking for the masses but when in Rome...the Chimichanga was
Our wait server was charming and attentive.
as soon as we got there we ordered a chicken wing appetizer and it was good but not memorable. WE LOVE BBQ so we went there to eat BBQ Ribs, Chicken and whatever the restaurant had to offer. the service was kind but we didn't know the menu and felt rushed. We ordered a large BBQ combo of beef, baby back variety and chicken, pulled pork, tri tip and some other beef meat. It came with cole slaw and baked beans and NO BREAD. All the ribs looked good and were not fatty but they weren't juicy either. Chicken was cooked all the way through but lacking juice, as if they their food BBQ and let it sit for a while until people order and that is probably the case because they came out extremely fast. One person ordered collard greens DELICIOUS, and we also ordered a side of fries and sandwich (for the late guest) it was good but not worth the price. Cole slaw, ok not our fave, BBQ beans are still lingering in my fridge and I got to take the majority of the leftovers home to give them a second chance heating them up in the broiler but they were ok. one meaty one dry, one fatty and so on.. I saw a wedge salad go by that looked delicious and the hamburgers looked amazing but so did our food, so I don't know if to blame it on the heatwave or the place is just not as good as it should.
Four Of us tried 2 appetizers, 4 entries and 2 desserts. I only liked one side; the best was pretty mediocre and totally fatty. The beef ribs served wet were tasteless. The baby back ribs had very little meat on them. I think Tony Roma's tastes better & is a much better value. Will not be returning.
I wrote a note on my Open Table reservation requesting to be seated in a certain (slightly quieter) area because we were meeting my daughter's boyfriend for the first time. The hostess acknowledged my request when we got there and assured us the table was clearing soon. After a short wait we were seated in the exact spot I was hoping for. Both hostess and server went out of their way to be helpful. The food is just incredible and and the service was exemplary. Great, great spot.
I always leave this restaurant feeling like I need to be in a wheelbarrow. That's my fault, not theirs. The food is really good and, between the great BBQ meats and the sides, it is very filling. I had a combo (not on menu) of beef ribs, baby back ribs and brisket, with baked beans and fried mac and cheese. Everything was very good. As they said decades ago, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing."
The food outstanding; the level of service and care for customer needs EVEN BETTER!! I can't remember the last time I was eating out in the evening hours where they were not trying to rush you out and turn the tables. Not the Boneyard, and not our server!!! THE BEST!!! First time there. Definitely will return. Thank you for a wonderful evening out with the girls!!!
