BONDIR RESTAURANT is located in a residential neighborhood in the center of Cambridge which is known for it's sense of community &pride in it's diversity-a neighborhood filled with murals, parks, and public gardens.
OUR CUISINE is based on a simple premise: The ingredients we use are a story about the people who produce them. The most expressive ingredients are the freshest, coming from the ocean or the field, directly to our door. Relationships - cultivated over the years through time spent with foragers, fishermen, farmers, ranchers - color the daily menu.
OUR SERVICE is the most important aspect of our job. We want to create a personalized evening for each guest.
Nothing really "popped" except for the wrapped turnip. Maybe it was because it was a Vegan dinner? But that fact got me really excited as I believe you have get that much more creative considering you're not using things such as butter. Don't mind paying extra for good food but really felt that value of meal did not match price tag.
Really enjoyed the cabbage dish all around!
Wrapped turnip was great as well. Expecting the turnip to have a fairly neutral flavor but was met with flavor.
A couple pieces of feedback:
Polenta tasted bland.
Pineapple dish - still had plastic tag attached to pineapple top but we know mistakes happen! Spoons were served with the dish and made it extremely difficult to cut any portion of the pineapple slices. Felt like pineapple had more core than meat.
Food was good, but not excellent. Server was very pleasant and did a good job explaining every dish, however some had much better execution than others. Was a pleasant meal, but was not a good, or great meal. Not worth a $350 price tag
For prixe fixe meal, which I generally don't like, it was very good. I didn't leave stuffed or hungry. The wine pairing was very enjoyable but I could have used another few sips of each pour. They were very accommodating and informed regarding dietary restrictions and allergies. The ambiance was warm and comfortable even if the bill was a tad bit steep.
Incredible place! We always go back to Bondir
Great five course dining experience accompanied by outstanding service
Exceptional service, very knowledgeable. The food quality is also very good, innovative combinations, found some inspirations about matching different products.
The most incredible dining experience I have ever had - every last detail was perfection. Chef Bond is a genius!! My husband and I have officially adopted Bondir as our new 'special celebration' restaurant.
The food was incredible. Be sure to do the wine pairing.
Warm and welcoming, service staff just glided in with the various courses, excellently timed and served with an explanation of the dish and a smile. A really lovely dining experience.
Had a delayed Valentine's Day dinner at Bondir. We enjoyed a nice fixed price 5 course meal. The preparation and freshness of the food was first-rate. The service was attentive and unobtrusive. The pacing of the first few course were a little fast for our tastes, but that is minor point. The only caution I have is that there is a single menu for each evening and there are (very) limited choice. You are getting a tasting menu based on what the chef decides to serve that day. My fiance and I are adventurous eaters and enjoy the surprise of new and interesting foods. If you like boneless chicken with a potato or in a Caesar salad this is NOT your place.
Wonderful food, beautifully prepared and presented
Bondir is always a marvelous experience. The meals are unique and delicious, the service and ambiance are welcoming and friendly. Enjoy the fantastic adventure in a cozy space!
A great venue for a leisurely catch up dinner with an old friend. It would also be great for date night.
Unbelievable. The service was thoughtful and attentive. They placed the prix fixe menus on the table, but noticing in my profile that I prefer vegan, they had preset a special vegan menu for me. Wow. And the food combinations were extraordinary - flavors, textures — not only tasty in a purely sensual way but also intriguing intellectually. Wine pairings also outstanding. This was a special dinner to celebrate a major life achievement. I will remember it my whole life as a wonderful, flawless evening. Thanks.
Wonderful food sourced by a chef who cares about the origin of the ingredients as much as the quality of the final dish. The restaurant space is intimate with a fireplace that both helps heat the dining room as well as cook the food. The menu changes frequently, so we will certainly come back to see what’s new.
My husband and I had really been looking forward to dinner- this restaurant was on our “must visit” for years! The food was very bland and underwhelming- we honestly only enjoyed the bread, sorbet, and maybe the dessert. Each dish felt like it was trying too hard but didn’t deliver real flavor
Great ambiance, super intimate and cozy, but the food was not worth the price. I’ve definitely had better meals for less money.
Dinner at Bondir is an experience I encourage everybody to try at least once. It's a cozy atmosphere, a set menu and absolutely fabulous. The food looks every bit as delicious as it tastes and is thoughtfully and beautifully prepared. Optional wine pairings are on point. Service is outstanding. Highly recommended for sure.
Excellent, but still disappointing. I'm used to something fresh and different from here and didn't really get that this time. The dessert was incredibly ordinary. Nothing was bad, but nothing was exciting. This place is usually awesome, so they've set the bar high and this time they just didn't make it.
They had a lovely hiramasa over pickled tomato that we are still raving about three days later. The wine pairing was outstanding. This is the kind of place where you think “we could go try something new ...but it’s so good every time and they’re always innovating, why would we go anywhere else?”
I'd heard of this place from a friend, and had tried several times to get a reservation. The trick was to wait until a Sunday night of a holiday weekend (Thanksgiving).
The food and service were top notch. My favorite of the 5 courses was the baked squash with mackerel. Never would have thought I'd like mackerel. Each component was unusual and contributed to the whole. It was a quiet night, and we had all the server's attention. She knew much more than I would have expected about how each item was created. The 6 of us at my birthday celebration had a wonderful evening.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Only (slight) complaint is that the noise level can go up quite a bit when the restaurant is full, but that's to be expected. This is a great restaurant.
This was our second visit to Bondir, and it was as wonderful as the first. The menu is creative and really interesting. The service is impeccable. We will definitely return. (we have not tried the wine parings, maybe next time)
Wow. I love the fact that the chef managed to produce interesting and tasty food combinations without going overboard on weird presentations (foam, deconstructed everything, etc.). Dinner seemed like something that was achievable in an ordinary kitchen without a ton of specialized equipment. And the tiny dessert was over-the-top amazing - chocolate - star anise pot de creme. Unreal how good that was. A++ would eat again.
I love the concept of this restaurant! It's wonderful not to have to choose your food, and every course feels like an adventure. The dining room is intimate and elegant without being formal, and the staff were attentive and knowledgeable. My only criticism, and I guess it's a big one, is that the food, while imaginative and tasty, wasn't amazing, as I sometimes experience when I go out to a really good restaurant. I would definitely return, as the menu changes regularly and I'm a fan of the concept and commitment to locally sourced food.
Our dinner at Bondir was incredible as always. The service is the best we have experienced in the Boston area with long-term staff members who clearly love what they do and enjoy tailoring the experiences of their guests. The ambience is quiet and cozy with warm music playing in the background and soft lighting perfect for date night or a dinner with friends where you’d like to have a real conversation. Chef Bond’s dishes are creative and always seasonal and local and the flavors and foods are surprising and delightful. The wine pairing is exceptional and reasonably priced. Kate and Erin are wonderful and make you feel special as a guest while also delivering a seamless dining experience where you never feel interrupted but always feel well taken care of. If you’d like a fabulous dinner, tailored to your dietary needs and emphasizing a great seasonal tasting menu of local food, with an unforgettable experience - Bondir is the restaurant for you!
The wine was excellent, they had gluten free homemade bread that was amazing (this is rare anywhere), and the chef tailored our meal to our food preferences (vegetarian) and allergy (celiac). Each course was full of surprisingly good combinations of fresh ingredients.
Overrated. Overpriced. Service was poor and the potions small.
Bondir was a lovely, cosy little spot. The food was beautiful, so creative and truly delicious. Service was spot on and we would definitely return.
Huge disappointment. Things looked nice, sounded fancy, but did not taste good. Also, the fixed menu (as in - no options, they serve what they serve) is not ideal. Had high hopes, but could not have been more dissatisfied with the meal.
What an amazing experience eating at Bondir. It is a tiny jewel of a restaurant. The restaurant 12 tables and you are seated at pretty close quarters. We never felt crowded.
Service is impeccable. The food lives up to and excedes the service. The set menu was a delight. Small servings-one featuring a small rectangle of watermelon topped with caviar, the other a small square of long pie squash atop a pickled green tomato slice. The main course was a perfectly cooked tenderloin of Wagu beef served on potato purée.
When the server asked about dessert, I declined-having had sufficient carbs and wine for a day, let alone a meal. He returned moments later with three choices that would meet my needs!
It is a very special space with a fantastic, creative chef that goes extra miles to create and serve wonderful meals.
Go. Eat. You will be so happy that you did.
A late comer to this amazing restaurant in its 8th year of operation been twice in the last 2 1/2 months. Run don't walk.
Had a fabulous meal, wonderful evening and great server
Bondir is like walking into a friend's home, with gracious service and warmth. You eat what chef Jason is preparing that night, with few variations (he will accommodate vegan/vegetarian diets with some notice). The food is very innovative without being pretentious. The plating was simple, but beautiful, and every forkful was a delight. Our greatest compliment is Chef Jason's treatment of antelope: tender, tasty, and just perfect. We'll be back.
The finest around. No one cooks like Jason cooks. If you know, you know.
I hadn’t been to Bondir in a while and am kicking myself for not getting back there sooner. The space is cozy and cute, and the dinnerware is adorable. The place is nice without pretentiousness. The staff and servers are all warm and friendly, and not at all snobby. And, most important, the food is delicious, creative, and wonderful.
I LOVE this place. It's a cozy little restaurant with a creative, skilled chef. A chilled tomato dashi with tomato ice, green tomato, and crab was beautifully presented and 'interactive' - the flavors intensified as the ice melted. The steelhead salmon was served with fermented cabbage and caviar and was perfectly prepared. The attached image is of a baked squash with chestnuts and fennel flowers, and it was much prettier than the picture! We had a Gilt City tasting menu with expertly selected wine pairings, and the food portions were in the Goldilocks zone - just right. What sets this restaurant apart from many others is the sense that you're eating a rich assortment of foods that are healthy, and don't depend heavily on fat to impart flavor. You know that "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" lethargy you get after a big, heavy meal? No worries about that here. Perfect.
This is a gem of a restaurant! Only 9 tables and a single tasting menu each night. The chef/owner is in the kitchen with one assistant and a waiter and that's all that is needed. Beautifully plated, delicious courses followed one after another in smooth progression. A wonderful place for a date, special occasion, or just any evening you want a great, cosy meal.
