BonCaldo Ratings and Reviews
We had high hopes for a nice Valentine Dinner at Bon Caldo and were a bit disappointed. This began with a harried hostess staff who had difficulty seating folks and seated us (with 7:30 reservation) after folks who arrive after us with 7:45 reservations. We asked about this and were told that tables were assigned by numbers and they could not switch them. So we had to wait for our "reserved table to be cleared while others were available.
Once seated we had to ask the waitress to level our table because it wobbled (a lot). She was good natured about it - and in fact was the best part of the meal.
We ordered scallops wrapped in prosciutto - the scallops were overdone and rubbery and the prosciutto was stiff. The over-cooked theme continued where my date had swordfish that was dry and my medium filet was served medium well when I requested medium.
Not sure we'll try Bon Caldo again considering we have had better experiences at Sophia's a bit further down route 1 in Dedham and the places are similar in ambiance and menu
I made a reservation and then edited it to have a birthday dessert arrive at the table when we were finished with dinner. Obviously that request was ignored. Our waiter was pleasant , although was a novice. The food was fair, not outstanding. I would not go back to this restaurant.
This is our second time dining in (we normally get take out) and we enjoyed our experience here! We usually get the chicken parm with gnocchi which is always delicious! The eggplant appetizer is always good. Calamari was cooked well also! The only reason I can’t give this 5 stars is one of the pasta dishes my mother-in-law ordered was missing the pasta! Other than that, great place for take out or to grab a bite for everyday dining or celebrate a special occasion.
This was a disappointing visit after always being excellent in the past. Service was spotty; almost every request was missed until a second request (lemons, water, bread, olive oil, etc). Effort was made to rectify but . . . Food was mixed on this visit, especially the pasta. Gnocchi was mushy and spaghetti was dry.
The food, as always, was very good. We always enjoy the meals we get. The service was less attentive than we hoped. We had to wait 20 min (unfortunately not an exaggeration) for our server to come back into the room before we could order a second round of drinks. The couple next to us had to wait the same for them to get their bill, which was even worse.
The food was okay - not as good as prior visits. Not sure if they changed chefs? Service was not up to par. Dropped our caesar salads off and never asked if we'd like fresh ground pepper. We had no pepper shaker on our table, so I had to go to another table in the dinning room and borrow it from there. We were a bit disappointed with the whole experience. Hopefully, it was just an off night for the restaurant, but it was New Year's Eve which made it that much more disappointing.
This was the first time I took a party of 10 people for a New Year's Eve dinner to the restaurant .
The food was delicious and our table was right in front of the fireplace (very cozy). We were not rushed thru our meal. It was a very enjoyable evening! Look forward to many more visits to the restaurant.
Gave this 3-star. I expected a lot more. It was an average experience. Nothing really negative other than the hostess sat us with no menus - had to ask for them after 5-10 minutes, and the ownership of our table changed multiple times while we were there. Almost appeared like no one wanted to serve us. The food was good, and the dinner prices were reasonable. We were there for my son's birthday (noted in the OpenTable reservation and also mentioned to the final waiter), expected "singing" but nothing.
Hi, I rarely submit a negative review but I was very disappointed with the pasta with broccoli entry. It is difficult fathom why the serving was limited to three small broccoli florets and four dabs of chicken.
I ordered the pasta-broccoli entry for the benefits of complex carbohydrates and the protein in the chicken. Neither was impressive.
On the other hand, my significant other enjoyed the salmon entry.
The ambience is outstanding, the service was top notch but the pasta-broccoli entry was very disappointing. How much more cost would be added to the entry if it included reasonable portions of broccoli?
We went there for a special date night and we truly enjoyed our meal, our waitress was awesome and we had great laughs because my boyfriend asked me to marry him right outside on the beautiful steps that reminded me of being at a restaurant in Italia! Loved the place and we will be back!
The food and drinks were very good. Our waitress, Ashley, was knowledgeable and friendly. When they had run out of the wine that we ordered, she was most apologetic and substituted another good selection at the same price. We enjoyed our meal and will return.
The food was excellent and the wait staff was wonderful. We had the calamari as an appetizer. It was outstanding. We both chose specials for our entrees. One was bass and the other chicken. We were both very pleased with our choices. I thought their pricing compared to other restaurants was more than reasonable!
Bon Caldo is not quite as good as I remember it from a few years ago, but it provided a good meal at a reasonable price. The wine selection is interesting with a selection of Italian wines as well as standard bottles. Veal was good and tender, but salmon was overcooked. Individual salad selection was interesting. Desserts were a bit heavy on whipped cream. Service was fine.
