Bombay Exotic Cuisine of India Ratings and Reviews
I have been going to Bombay for a few years now and the food and service are always top notch! I highly recommend this place for their amazing Indian food. Also, on Friday and Saturday nights they have live bellydance performances. Just amazing! Definite must see!
First of all I admit that the food was absolutely delicious! The bad part was by far the service. I knew this place would be busy, so I made a reservation. Even with a reservation it took them about 10 minutes to get us to a table. Once we get to our table, it took at least another 10 minutes to get waters and get our drink orders in. We found out there was no bartender so our poor server was pulling double-duty (explains why service was so slow). Turns out there was a large wedding party in the back room where most of the servers were occupied. It was nice to see people having fun, but there were children running around (screaming) and crying. I'm glad the folks at the wedding had fun, but unfortunately it was at the expense of the rest of the paying customers in the front of the restaurant. All-in-all, I would go back for the food and hope that the service is better the second time around.
We've eaten here several times and are never disappointed. They offer an excellent buffet including dessert as well as direct menu ordering. The dishes are fresh and authentic. The curries and chutneys delicious. The atmosphere is beautiful and a bit lively. Seems to attract mostly couples or adult groups but we always feel welcome with children as well.
When I see reviews that say "I would give 0 stars if I could", I always dismiss these reviews thinking that it can't be that bad. But after my experience at this restaurant made me understand those reviews. This is not to say that all of you will have bad experiences as well. But from the experience I had, anything above 0 stars is too much.
I made a reservation online and arrived on time (at 7:30 PM). I was seated and given a menu. After waiting 20 mins, no one had come over to take our order, or give us a glass of water. I had to call the hostess to ask for some water and to get our order taken. by 8:00 PM (already 30 mins), a waitress came over to take our order. My Wife and I ordered cocktails and 2 entrees. We kept waiting and waiting, but not even the cocktails were served. The waiters and waitresses were just marching on by, not bothering to look around to see if we needed anything. I finally got hold of a waiter around 8:20, and he went to check on my order. At 8:30 (1 hour since my arrival), our waitress comes over and tells us that the initial order did not go through, and she would need to re-order again, and she would make sure it is done as first priority. So we gave our order again, and hoped to have something to eat in 10-15 mins or so. By the time the food finally arrived (after lots of prodding at the waiters), it was 9:10, Can't believe i had to wait 2 hours to have dinner.
Food was average. Looked hygienic and fresh, but didn't taste so great.
The food here is amazing. The service can be very slow sometimes, so it's worth planning for that if you need to eat and get out in a rush. However, if you have, it's very very worth it. We love coming here - the restaurant is beautiful, the food is delicious, and even when the service is slow the staff are all very friendly.
The food was delicious. Each dish had a unique flavor and taste. A blending of herbs and spices in each dish brings out a great eating experience. One suggestion is to not deliver the main course until the diners have finished eating the appetizers. The waiters were attentive and not overbearing.
I love Indian food and Bombay does everything better. The appetizers, bread, entrees, chai and mango mousse ALWAYS satisfy. They use spices in the right combinations and their meats are tender and juicy. The restaurant is dimly lit with beautiful decor and a thin waterfall near the front doors.
If you know someone that doesn't like or know Indian food, you should take them to Bombay. Get the Bombay sampler, garlic naan, korma, and mango mousse. Korma is made with cream, but can be substituted with coconut milk (both are good). Also, the banana curry is unique and good for sharing.
Downside: There isn't a parking lot. There is street parking or the (paid) parking garage across the street.
The food was very good. I got the Chicken Vindaloo and my girlfriend got the Chicken Tika Masala and both rasted great. The service on the other hand was absolutely awful! It took over a half hour just to get some water and 40 minutes to order a drink and appetizer. It's was not until an hour after that the waiter took out dinner order. Finally after we finished eating it took the waiter 45 minutes before he brought around our check. I am just shocked that a restaurant that put out good Indian food would have such poor service. I will not be going back.
I has been quite often. But in quite some time, another try. We were disappointed. The service was incredibly slow. The food tasted pretty good but did not sit well (perhaps it was just us).
There was a belly dancer, which was kind of neat except she danced with a giant snake. My husband is terrified of snakes and he could not relax.
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Now I know why we haven't been in so long
Service could be better. Food is excellent. However, don't order mixed drinks from the bar. I witnessed the bartender pouring Tanqueray into a Tanqueray Ten bottle! Makes you wonder what other top shelf liquors are really not top shelf after all. Then that same bartender was sniffing the mixers to see if they were still good. Needless to say, I wont order another cocktail there.
We've been here before and had a wonderful experience the first time which made me want to go back and try it again. This second visit was not pleasant at all. We went somewhere around 5:00 PM on a Sunday afternoon so you would think it is not busy. There were only 4-5 tables of people when we arrived, however, our food took an hour and 10 min to come out. There were two sets of people that came after us with food before we got ours. To add to the disappointment, the food portions this time around were really small for the price : e.g. price and quantity we paid for the garlic bread naan and hummus combo: The appetizer was literally one piece of naan bread cut up into small bites and served with a small sauce dish of hummus which was mediocre in taste. It was $7.95 vs. $3.95 for just the garlic naan bread which comes as 2-3 pieces of the bread. The chicken dish we ordered was $16.95 and looked like it had only 3-4 cut up chicken pieces about 1.5"x2" in size. The rest was the curry sauce. The kicker was the response from the service staff: food's coming shortly but it took another 5 minutes... That's how our appetizer plate is, one piece of naan bread. I doubt I'll be going back to this establishment in future.
The food vary good but I can't say the same thing about the service. After sitting down and reviewing the menu, over 40 minutes passed before someone stopped by to take our drink order and give us water. When someone finally came over, we ordered our food which took about another 40 minutes to receive our food. Then after completing our meal it took an hour for someone to give us our check. I will not be going back.
We sat on the patio (the only couple there) and were ignored. I went to the bar to order a bottle of wine. The server did not even notice. Water glasses empty many times . Lack of service all together. Unfortunate as I love the food here even thought $23 for a few pieces of chicken in the curry may not be worth the price! I will come back and hope for a better experience.
Looks fancy, the prices are not too bad. Make sure if you are a curry regular you do not let the waiter pick for you because its either too mild or too hot. I loved the belly dancer and the snake. The waterfall fountain and environment made the meal. Great place for reunion with family.
My daughter who is 9 loved the belly dancer but it isnt for the churchly types.. This is for those who are worldly and open to culture.
LOVE THIS PLACE best dinner of my San Diego Trip.
We hadn't been here in maybe 2 years. It was a little dated then, we figured, let's give them time to refurb and refresh. FAIL. Upset stomach within 12 hours. Not from spiciness. 3 advertised beers on tap. One was unavailable, one was substituted for Bud light and the 3rd - Kings Lager - is what I ordered. In case anyone over at Bombay was wondering, you put a beer in a tap to allow the aroma and the flavor to excel. I get a beer filled to the very brim with no head at all. Who taught that clown how to pour a beer. Food tasted OK, but see above, if it is leaving in a haste after a short stay, maybe you shouldn't have invited it to be your guest in the first place. Saag Paneer, Chicken Masala, Tandori Chicken, Naan bread. We don't be back.
We come here at least once a year to enjoy the feeling of sitting inside with the sense of being outside... the room is lovely, and with all the big doors open, the water falling, the crystal twinkling, it is so nice.
Perhaps we ordered poorly this time, but our dinner was just okay... service was very good however, so nothing to complain about. Nice cold Kingfisher beer on tap, minty Naan to eat.
Bombay is a wonderfully exotic atmosphere. From the servers to the decor to the delicious cuisine you are swept away to a foreign land that makes you feel like you have left the country. The water wall creates an amazingly relaxing ambiance and adds to the nearly spiritual experience.
If you are going to the Landmark Theatre, Bombay is a great place for lunch before or after the movie. It is conveniently located across the streetand you can park in the theatre parking lot! The lunch buffet is a bargain and the sag is delicious. They even give you your choice of hot nan for the table. There are Bollywood dance movies of the monitors and an inside waterfall!!
The food was wonderful! My husband grew up in India so he can be a tough critic and he thought the food was very good. The decor was elegant, the indoor waterfall especially nice. The only complaint was no one refilled my water and I was totally out. Also they didn't ask if we wanted dessert (I have a love of sweet rice) They bought the bill and we had to ask for a dessert menu.
