Bombay Exotic Cuisine of India Ratings and Reviews
The place has a nice ambience and nicely designed . The food was okay. They need to have more servers . I made a reservation and waited almost an hour before someone came to my table and took my order and that was because I called the host over to complain about the long wait. The place was so crowded and after I placed my order I had to wait a long time to be served and again by asking a waiter walking by for my food. The belly dancers kept me entertained while I waited .
The ambiance was beautiful, food was wonderful, waiters were very kind and helpful, however, the service from the waiters were a little inattentive after the meal was served. It was higher in price than I had expected for the amount of food we received.
I will come again with friends and family, but I cannot give it a 5 star. Need a little more work on the attentiveness.
The good news is that if you want great Indian food, then this is the place to go. The ambiance is beautiful and like many restaurants in Hillcrest, the food is good. The bad news is that service is non-existent. We had to constantly flag down servers. They had a lot of servers, but no one seemed to be assigned to our table. Also, we opted for ordering off the menu since the buffet items didn't look very appetizing.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. It's a fun restaurant in the heart of Hillcrest, and the food was quite good as well as plentiful. The spicy level of the Mahi curry I chose was perfect - not hot, but spice that lingered on your tongue. The breads were delicious as were the chutneys we ordered - mint and raita. The appetizer we chose was the sampler - more than enough for two people. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and available. Service was quite good. Nice place to have an Indian meal.
Hated the service as we had to wait for 45 mins for our food to arrive. When the food came, it was not hot, it was more like warm and every dish that we ordered was tasting horrible. It was so bad food I had bad burps all night :(. I wouldn't go there again
My Brit husband has a serious love of curries and this is the only place that reminds him of home. One of our favorite spots and always lovely service and people. Plus a mean Mango martini! Have also done a company party here with dancing lessons which was a hit all around.
We've dined at Bombay for many years. The food is consistently very good. What changed on our recent visit was the service. There were a lot of problems. They didn't take our order until we had been there for 40 minutes - just incredible! It took 50 minutes (and three reminders) for them to bring us water. After a long wait they finally brought us naan but didn't provide any plates so while we waited for the rest of our food we just held our bread in our hands. We would have preferred to combine the naan with the rest of the meal but we were hungry after such a long wait. Part way through the meal a server came by to fill our water glasses. After filling one glass and partially filling another before running out of water I assumed he'd be back to fill the other glasses. He didn't return. I assume he forgot about us. I would ordinarily expect a table cloth but there was none; our cutlery had to be placed directly on the table. The servers just seemed to be very poorly trained. We thought that maybe we were just a very unlucky table that evening but as we left, we overheard a gentlemen at another table telling the hostess that this was the worst service he'd ever seen.
They were very unorganized on Valentine's Day. I made a reservation two weeks in advance for a specific table, and upon arrival they attempted to seat us in their "overflow" section in the back room. They finally seat us a table in the front, but it took 20 minutes before a server showed up to take our drink orders. It took them another 20 minutes to get us the drinks, and another 20 minutes to get the appetizers. Overall, we spent 2 hours at the restaurant. They're not usually this unorganized, but to have 2 servers for a place this large on a special night is beyond me.
I have been going to Bombay since it opened and used to really enjoy going to this restaurant. Over the long term the service ( i.e timeliness of getting waited on, getting the bill, etc) has increasingly deteriorated. If I want my water glass filled...no problem the support staff do not take my order or follow up to see if I need anything. I am really sorry to have to say that after my last visit I will no longer be able to recommend this restaurant except for the lunch buffet where you can get it yourself!!!
I'll preface this review with the fact that I went on Valentine's Day, so naturally the restaurant was busier than normal.
We arrived at our reservation time, 6:30pm, and were brought to the back of the restaurant (the banquet space usually for large parties) which was set up with tables for regular service. It looked very nice, the tables were elaborately set. Our waiter took our drink and food order, both of which were brought out in acceptable time. The food was excellent. However, the restaurant really filled up as we were eating, and by the time we were ready for our check (our plates were empty so we were obviously done), we had to wait about half an hour for our waiter to even come back over to our table. That was kind of disappointing.
Have been there many times. This time the service was so slow! Took an hour to get our food after we ordered. Drink service was very slow, we had to keep asking for assistance. Our waitress ignored us all night after she took our order. It was another server who over heard us complain about the service who finally took action. Once we got our food, a few of the dishes were cold. Hoping to celebrate my wife's birthday at a place we loved. Very disappointing.
I've been to Bombay several times and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. However, on this occasion, it was not a great experience. We were there celebrating Valentine's Day (night before, Saturday night), so they were obviously busy and we were placed in the back room, which I'm guessing is usually used for private parties and such. However, even taking into account that it was a busy night, the service was atrocious. Just generally extremely inattentive. I'm not that hard to please and you would have to be pretty bad to get less than a 20% tip from me...I think I gave 10% on this occasion because I couldn't justify not docking for the bad service. Just one example: our appetizer was finished and the plate empty for 20 minutes before anyone came back to take our entree order. On our way out, I thought I would at least let the hostess know that it was rough in the back room and she stated, "I wish there was something I could do for you. You are not the first person to comment on it." I'm hoping for a better experience if we decide to go back.
I came here once October 2015 for my birthday, and the waiter was sooo awesome and prompt!!!! Came 2016 valentines weekend and the waiter actually remembered us and welcomed us back can't remember his name but his from Turkey."Berhandt" I think his name was your awesome and I hope that's they recognize you!!! I will definitely be back again soon the food was amazing very tasteful and plenty!!!!!!!
We were led to a 2 seat table that was jammed up into the corner of one of the main walkways against what appeared to be a support beam. This meant that literally and nearly every person that comes into the restaurant would be passing by our table. We asked if she could find another table and her response was "they are all reserved".We have been here before quite a few times and the food and service are typically pretty good and dare I say very good but we have had our not so good experiences as well. This time, after a long day of work and seeking a moment to relax, we just were not in the mood to watch the traffic of people walking by us but more so, the complete lack of even an attempt to reseat us elsewhere. When she said they are all reserved, we had a reservation as well so it really seemed an odd response. Seems like she could have stopped and sought a solution. We would have even waited for another table but simply were not given the opportunity. I am not exaggerating either. She literally said "they are all reserved and fast paced away no explanation and leaving us literally standing there with no attempt to even seat us. Unacceptable. This is our third time of probably a couple of dozen or even more times there including some special occasions but definitely the last. I think we have overlooked things pretty graciously before and always come back because it really is good food overall and sometimes things just don't go right. Very disappointing. We left and went to Saigon on Fifth, no reservation and they were wonderful. THIS was the silver lining for the evening and a great find for us.
Aside from 2 women stealing my reservation for which I had requested a romantic spot next to the fountain, it was a fun time. We got the next best seat and really enjoyed the dancer. She was great! Our server was fantastic and we took about 2.5 hours at our table to have a long European type dinner. I didn't love the food but it was more about the experience for me. I tried the lamb kebab and my boyfriend had the mahi.
We had dinner for 5 on New Year's Night (1 Jan). Our booth was ready for us when we arrived. Chef Mixed Grill, Dal Makhani, Saag Paneer, a lamb dish - all medium spicy - and rice and Naan. Good service with a smile. The food was excellent without exception. We will definitely return.
We went here for New Year's Eve and I know it is typically a busier night but even so the amount of time it took to get just our appetizer was ridiculous. The bartender was our waiter so he was too busy to check in on us while we waited what seemed like ages for a samosa appetizer to get to our table. The entrees we ordered were the fish special and the veggie biryani and both tasted horrible. The fish was hard and didn't taste fresh. The biryani was extremely spicey even though we asked for a medium spice level. The service staff were not attentive and didn't look like they cared about customers. Would never go here again.
Good food and good service.. nothing great though.. had to wait a while for the food.. and then my appetizers and main course were brought together..there was a dance performance, so we weren't that bored.. the lighting and the ambience was really good.. would be good for date night
My wife and I went for dinner at Bombay for the first time. Although it was a Saturday night, the accommodations were perfect. We sat next to the waterfall, were delighted with the belly dancer and her exotic accompaniments. The server introduced us to the cuisine in such a way that it was easy to select an enjoyable meal. The drinks were well made. The atmosphere was inviting. The overall restaurant facility is clean and modern. Definitely will be back and will recommend to others.
