Bombay Chopsticks Ratings and Reviews
I didn't expect it to be so good, worth the drive just to come and dine there. Very nice atmosphere, open dining room with some almost private "cabinets", aromatic and delicious dishes, to my understanding Thai cuisine with some Indian influence, plenty of vegetarian choices, the servers are nice and attentive but not annoying. I would recommend this place to everyone especially who likes spicy food with fresh notes of vegetables and herbs.
We've frequented this establishment over the years and have decided we won't go back. The portions are smaller than ever. The $19.95 jumbo shrimp consisted of 5 medium shrimp, which were more sauce than tandoori. The other dishes we equally small, which had been typical, but the the amount of protein in each (chicken and paneer, in the two cases in question) was considerably reduced. Service was very slow even though the restaurant was not overly busy. We had to ask for drinks, wave down the water for the check, etc. In short the experience has deteriorated over time, although the taste of the food remains good and authentic.
First as a service to my fellow OpenTable diners DO NOT BELIEVE THE MENUS ON OpenTable. Almost nothing on these menus is available at the restaurant.
Of the fiod we did have, the paneer Hakka was very good. The orange chicken was terrible.
My wife had the stir fry vegetables and they did not serve her anything that resembled the dish on the menu. And I am not talking about a picture I am talking about a description.
I honestly felt bad for our waitress who was excellent and tried very hard. We drove an hour for this restaurant and have no intentions of EVER coming back.
There is nothing fusion here and I honestly wouldn't or couldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone I know.
I had read mixed reviews about this place, but we wanted to try it because the concept intrigued us. I'd say the best things about Bombay Chopsticks were the service and the atmosphere. Our server Victoria was delightful and I've never seen food delivered so quickly. And the decor is beautiful. As far as the food, I'd give it a B-minus. The appetizers were good. We had the chicken pot stickers and our son had the wonton soup. Then we had 3 other dishes: Mongolian Beef, Lobster in crab sauce, and Spicy Asian Shredded Chicken. They also brought rice and gave us refills when needed. The chicken was the best of all with a good amount of vegetables and a very flavorful sauce. The lobster was tender and delicious. The Mongolian Beef was okay but nothing special. We also ordered some Pina Coladas, which were very strong and very expensive (about $13) and they were obviously not made in a blender. There was no crushed ice at all; just a mix and alcohol and a few ice cubes. True they were strong, but still not worth it. At the end of the meal, the servers brought some free ice cream for my husband's birthday celebration and sang "Happy Birthday". It was a nice touch.
All in all, it was a very pleasant experience, but next time we want Chinese food, we'll probably go to a Chinese restaurant rather than this Indian take on Chinese cuisine.
We were late for our reservation and called to tell them. The hostess said np we are not busy just come. We arrived to a very rude hostess who said we have to seat at a booth outside of dinning room. She eventually heard me and let us have a table after 3 conversations with her. The food was subpar. Don't order the beef! It was extremely tuff. Very nice ambiance though.
Went there on a Friday night. The place was packed pretty soon and understaffed. We waited for the longest time for everything and our waitress smiled sheepishly every time we asked her for our stuff.
Food was decent. We had fried rice and noodles and chilly chicken and garlic vegetables for 5 of us.
The worst part was that our tip was added in the bill so we were forced to pay an 18% tip even though we were far from satisfied with the service.
Awful experience overall - would've gvn it 0 stars if possible! Overpriced food, god awful drinks...food served late &/or incorrectly...and so noisy that we couldn't hear each other...so much 4 gttg tgthr to catch up!!
India House was great - this spin-off is horrible!
Our family has dined here several times- thevIndian food is much beter than the Chinese. This time, for some reason, the service was very poor. I didn't want to complain- beacause the owners Jagmohan and Ravi Rawat are great people and my friends. Joe Gupta
This place is worth going to for very good indian food. Only problem is that the waitress only gave us a menu for their fusion-asian until I inquired. She then provided a very broad Indian food menu BUT COULD NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DISHES. She needs training on this . Other than that, she was a good waitress. The food was very delicious with good portions.
I am not at all pleased with bombay chopstics food, nor the reservation service. First of all when u request the special reservation they tell you they will do it,but when you go there you dnt get the table you requested. Second of all we ordered food to be least spicy instead we got food that was so spicy that no1 was able to eat and we had to request them for changing it. After all this we recieved the less spicy food and finally we began to eat and i found wood piece in my noodles which were already in my mouth. This is really unacceptable..
Overall i had really bad experience here as not at all happy with service nor the food. I will never go to this place for any special occasion.
My first experience was very nice that's why we came back on Aug 27th. We do not live in Chicago so we were sure to make a reservation. We were seated right away. After that it started getting bad. Our waiter came took out soup and appetizer order. I was about to give him my dinner order but he said let me get this and I will come back for dinner order. So our soup and appetizer came fast then he left and came back a few minutes later to take our order. After that we waited 49 minutes for our dinner. He came back one time all frazzled and said something and then disappeared. We were abt to complain when he came with our dinner order. By that time we had waited too long and the whole mood for eating was gone as all we kept seeing was everyone else orders come through but ours. I think your waiter forgot to put our order in. We had him pack our food. We came in a little before 8 and did not leave till 9.45. So you can safely say that our experience with you was not good. It has left a bad taste in our mouth. Don't know if we will come back. We visit Chicago quite often.
Excellent food, but poor customer service. Was sitting there for 20 minutes, no server came by to even ask for water or anything. Servers to the tables on either side of us, ignored our table, didn't want to take on extra work. We had to finally go ask the head server if we will be getting a server. Finally a server was assigned to our table from the other side, she was great. So I would suggest a friend this place, for its food but they can go there if they have plenty of time on their hands and are not super hungry
