Bohanan's Prime Steaks and Seafood Ratings and Reviews
Our waitstaff and food was over the top amazing. Completely worth every single penny ! The only draw back at all was the noise level, my husband had to yell a couple of times. Our waiter, Gabriel, even had the valet grab my other shoes from the car so we could go stroll around before we left ! Just a top notch establishment .
Restaurant was nice.. food was good... but the bar was less than inviting.. our server couldn’t remember we were there... band a tad noisy and although we tried to catch ANYONE’S eye to get olives and club soda... we almost left but decided to give the restaurant a try... so glad we stayed! An enjoyable experience... our server Jose and assistants were on point... my less than perfect marks on my assessment were partially based on an UNhapoy hour waiting on our 9:15 reservation... Kudos to the chefs and Jose.. we will return...
Our overall experience was excellent. The bar downstairs made some great signature cocktails . The restaurant was busy and the service was a 10. The food was amazing. Everything from the candied jalapenos to the red snapper to the filet were perfect. I would defiantly put this restaurant on my list of places to go. I cant wait to go back again.
Top notch service and high quality meals for both of us. We both commented that our steaks were the best we have had in a long time. We had mushrooms, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese for sides to share. More than enough as the portions are generous. Our team of servers, led by Alex, were on point the entire evening. First time diners, but we will be returning.
Good service. However we had a reservation for 8:00pm and were not seated until 8:45pm. This normally wouldn't be a huge deal but since it was nearly 9:30 before we ate dinner, we were highly disappointed and likely wont return. What would've happened if we had arrived 45 minutes late?
Anymore it is hard to find classic, professional service at a restaurant but the service in this place is top notch and old school. It wouldn’t hurt to admit a few women into the ranks of the clubby waitstaff but other than that, no complaints here. Watching the waitstaff was like watching a ballet. Superb service matched by superb food. Wow.
Service was wonderful and ambiance was nice. Candied jalapeños on whipped cream cheese appetizer was phenomenal but it went down hill after that. Waiter was offended when I jokingly said i wouldn’t share my salad so comped my husband one of his own and neither salad was shareable portion. All sides were a separate price. After the long and pretentious explanation of different cuts of meat, waiter acted disappointed yet again when we chose the cheaper $48 steak. My husbands ribeye was not marbled but surrounded by fat. Neither steak had any taste. Definitely not something i would want to try again. We decided to try the cream brûlée but crust was too thick and over torched. Wouldn’t recommend nor return.
Our children purchased us gift cards for Christmas so we could get the Chateau Billion for two. The service and experience were incredible. The waiter even had the meat split so we could each have our selected temperature. The price you pay is for the impeccable service you are given. Well worth the money for a special occasional.
We had a reservation for 9:30 but arrived early. Despite plenty of seating available throughout our dining, we ate at the bar. Had the steak not been heavily salted, it would have been really good. Alas, it was encrusted with excessive salt. Go somewhere else for good quality steak.
Bohanan's has always been known as a special restaurant, but the last 2 times I've been there, I've left feeling disappointed. The bar on the first floor is first-rate and still my favorite place to sit, sip, and listen. But the restaurant is off my list. For the second time in a row, the restaurant had an odd smell, the meat was terribly undercooked, my chair was uncomfortable, and the food was average. There are so many great new restaurants in San Antonio that may not give you quite the impressive ambiance, but you will get superior just about everything else, and for a fraction of the cost.
My husband and I never get to go anywhere because we have 2 toddlers. So when I made reservations I asked for specific special seating . Who ever saw my request did a great job.. The atmosphere was romantic and the staff was extremely nice. The food was great.. overall I had a great experience and I really didn't want the night to end..
Jerome was our lead in serving us. He and the entire team were fabulous ... attentive, but not intrusive. He did a great job of “educating” us on the cuts of meat and the different types of meat that they serve. All are great ... Allen Brothers, Akaushi, and one other that I can’t remember. The meal starts with hard bread/large croutons with a whipped cream/olive oil/jellied jalapeño that was very good. We each had a salad ... arugula for her and lettuce wedge (with bacon!) for me. We both had steaks ... a 7 oz Allen’s filet for my wife and a 12 oz Akaushi strip for me. Mine was medium and was extremely tasty and very flavorful. My wife’s was medium well and still retained a lot of flavor and was not dry or chewy. We ordered three sides: lobster cream corn (WOW!), au gratin potatoes and asparagus ... perfect size for the two of us and very tasty. We didn’t order drinks ... that surely kept the bill down! ... nor desserts ... though we were VERY tempted, but full. I highly recommend this for a special occasion.
We were seated next to three young families with babies at the same table in the main dining room. After we were seated our order was not taken for almost 30 minutes. During the wait, the babies began crying. Our food arrived promptly and was very good. However, the truffle fries were very light in truffle flavor, they did not taste the same as our first time.
We have visited Bohanan's at least 4 times in the past year. We take our grandchildren on their birthdays for a show and dinner. They love the food and the ambiance. The staff always makes every effort to meet their every need. They strive to make it more than a food experience, but a special memory. That they will always remember.
Overall, the restaurant is pretentious and arrogant. The restaurant's decor and the servers' attitudes made it seem like the restaurant was striving to be a top-class restaurant. More specifically, the Maitre D' talked for five minutes straight about their off-the-menu items such as their Waigyu beef, and he made it seem like it's the only logical choice to order the off-the-menu items. We ended up ordering items from the menu and the Maitre D's attitude and face towards us did a complete 180° and he never talked to us again after we ordered the food. Some other server ended up bringing our food without a description of what we were about to eat (a different server gave us a speech about the bread that came before we ordered). The food was good but not great. Sorry to say, but I've had better steaks at cheap buffets. The check ended up costing an unreasonable amount for an experience that was less than desirable.
Excellent for a special occasion.
This was for my mother's birthday.
She started with the Grilled French Oysters and I had the Tuna Sashimi
we both had Steak fillets they were a minute late with the sauce and gave it to us for free
two sides Portabello mushrooms addictive
shared a chocholate mouse cake
Only problem was the acoustics in the room with 2 large obnoxious groups, this was Nov 20th so you know who you are.
I have been to Bohanan’s a few times, for both lunch and dinner. It never disappoints. It is certainly pricey, but well worth the money. The service is supreme— no place in town does service better (though Supper is also fantastic, which makes sense because several of their servers also work at Bohanan’s). They get all the details right— never reach across you, bring fresh utensils, etc. but (and this is key) their service is not stuffy in the least. They are congenial and welcoming, and I never feel pressure to overspend. I also love the decor here— as beautiful as the new modern industrial look is, Bohanan’s is outfitted with soft materials that contain the noise level.
On my most recent visit, I had one of the red snapper dishes, which was superb, and my dad had the crabcakes, which were hand down the best crabcakes I’ve ever had. The crab really shines, and Bohanan’s keeps the binding and fillers to an absolute minimum. We shared a salad, and that was it. It was more than enough food for us, and a nice departure from the steak I usually order here.
