Bohanan's Prime Steaks and Seafood Ratings and Reviews
Great Food, Great Service, Overall a fantastic dining experience! I would suggest plan on using the valet parking it was worth it for the convenience. We enjoyed the best steaks we have ever eaten. That is a big compliment from a person originally from Chicago, which has some world-class steak places!
My only suggesting is that the restaurant either put up a a sign or have a greeter at the entrance to let patrons know in order to get the restaurant you need to walk all the way to the back where there is a hostess station. My fiancé and I had to walk around the front bar area looking around till someone at the bar pointed us to the back of Bohanan’s.
We definitely will return in the future.
This will be our special event dining restaurant in San Antonio.
Incredible place to enjoy a special meal. We went for steaks based on family recommendation but their seafood should also be a good bet because it is flown in daily. Dinner was delicious starting with a carefully composed Caprese salad featuring aged balsamic, heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil and hand pulled velvety mozzarella. A perfect blend of flavors.
Filets and ribeyes were beautifully mesquite grilled and rested. Bernaise sauce was uniquely tasty and side dishes of sauteed spinach, creamy lobster corn and scalloped potatoes were exceptional and shared by all. The only miss was a wild rice pancake with poblano cream. Pancake was too much pancake and not enough rice.
Topped off the meal with fresh fruit, creme brule and a unique pecan pie creation that was out of this world.
Service was lead by Shannon who was the personification of perfect service. He guided us well, taught us about the protein prep and made us feel like special guests. Would definitely ask for him but all staff seemed exceptionally competent, trained and friendly.
I have been to Bohanan’s many times and frequent many of the steak house’s around San Antonio, and the service I received on Wednesday was horrible. I was at the restaurant for a business dinner and the waiter we had kept dropping the ball, from the slow service taking our first drink order, then we had to request that he take our food order and finally when we ordered a second cocktail we had to replace the order (after waiting 15mins). When you going to a higher priced restaurant you are paying for service not just a good steak (which it was very good), you expect to have excellent service. Not sure what the issue was but the service was not up to past experiences.
I wish there were more choices regarding appetizers and soups. We were really happy overall and enjoyed our experience. My only critique would be with the French onion soup; the bread in the soup was too big and thick to be appreciated. It acted more like a plug which detracted from the entire dish. The wait staff were fantastic! Will come back!
Arrived a bit early so I decided to have a cocktail in the first floor bar. I waited 10 minutes to get waited on and the place was virtually deserted. I will say that the bartender redeemed himself with a very good Old Fashioned.
The food and waitstaff upstairs in the restaurant well above expectations. The waitstaff were very attentive but not overbearing. The bone in filet was one of the best pieces of meat I have eaten and I travel extensively. I will be making this a must stop every time I get back to San Antonio.
Our waitstaff and food was over the top amazing. Completely worth every single penny ! The only draw back at all was the noise level, my husband had to yell a couple of times. Our waiter, Gabriel, even had the valet grab my other shoes from the car so we could go stroll around before we left ! Just a top notch establishment .
Restaurant was nice.. food was good... but the bar was less than inviting.. our server couldn’t remember we were there... band a tad noisy and although we tried to catch ANYONE’S eye to get olives and club soda... we almost left but decided to give the restaurant a try... so glad we stayed! An enjoyable experience... our server Jose and assistants were on point... my less than perfect marks on my assessment were partially based on an UNhapoy hour waiting on our 9:15 reservation... Kudos to the chefs and Jose.. we will return...
Our overall experience was excellent. The bar downstairs made some great signature cocktails . The restaurant was busy and the service was a 10. The food was amazing. Everything from the candied jalapenos to the red snapper to the filet were perfect. I would defiantly put this restaurant on my list of places to go. I cant wait to go back again.
Top notch service and high quality meals for both of us. We both commented that our steaks were the best we have had in a long time. We had mushrooms, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese for sides to share. More than enough as the portions are generous. Our team of servers, led by Alex, were on point the entire evening. First time diners, but we will be returning.
Good service. However we had a reservation for 8:00pm and were not seated until 8:45pm. This normally wouldn't be a huge deal but since it was nearly 9:30 before we ate dinner, we were highly disappointed and likely wont return. What would've happened if we had arrived 45 minutes late?
Anymore it is hard to find classic, professional service at a restaurant but the service in this place is top notch and old school. It wouldn’t hurt to admit a few women into the ranks of the clubby waitstaff but other than that, no complaints here. Watching the waitstaff was like watching a ballet. Superb service matched by superb food. Wow.
Service was wonderful and ambiance was nice. Candied jalapeños on whipped cream cheese appetizer was phenomenal but it went down hill after that. Waiter was offended when I jokingly said i wouldn’t share my salad so comped my husband one of his own and neither salad was shareable portion. All sides were a separate price. After the long and pretentious explanation of different cuts of meat, waiter acted disappointed yet again when we chose the cheaper $48 steak. My husbands ribeye was not marbled but surrounded by fat. Neither steak had any taste. Definitely not something i would want to try again. We decided to try the cream brûlée but crust was too thick and over torched. Wouldn’t recommend nor return.
Our children purchased us gift cards for Christmas so we could get the Chateau Billion for two. The service and experience were incredible. The waiter even had the meat split so we could each have our selected temperature. The price you pay is for the impeccable service you are given. Well worth the money for a special occasional.
We had a reservation for 9:30 but arrived early. Despite plenty of seating available throughout our dining, we ate at the bar. Had the steak not been heavily salted, it would have been really good. Alas, it was encrusted with excessive salt. Go somewhere else for good quality steak.
Bohanan's has always been known as a special restaurant, but the last 2 times I've been there, I've left feeling disappointed. The bar on the first floor is first-rate and still my favorite place to sit, sip, and listen. But the restaurant is off my list. For the second time in a row, the restaurant had an odd smell, the meat was terribly undercooked, my chair was uncomfortable, and the food was average. There are so many great new restaurants in San Antonio that may not give you quite the impressive ambiance, but you will get superior just about everything else, and for a fraction of the cost.
