Bodega Spanish Tapas & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
The food is decent and was delivered to us fairly quickly, but the waitress service was lousy - really surprising since this place is on the main drag in Georgetown.. The restaurant smells like what a smokey bar smells like the next day - stale cigarette smell, and the decor leaves a lot to be desired. Not much of an ambiance.
I have been here a few times for brunch and dinner and it has not disappointed. Bodega is a great place for a date and to take your family. I've gone twice for brunch with my wife and infant daughter and Bodega has been able to accommodate a table that meets our needs.
We always enjoy eating at Bodega when we are in Georgetown because the ambiance and food are wonderful. The only reason that I did not give a higher score was that seating was very problematic on this visit. Despite advanced reservations we were seated outdoors on a cool and windy night and the outside space heaters near our table were not functioning. We were moved inside but seated at a table far too small for our party size and one person was forced to sit on a stool. The food was very good but hard to enjoy with the seating we were given.
I had a late dinner at Bodega several years ago while in DC for business. I sat at the bar and recall that the wine and food was delicious and I recommended to a friend. In May I dined at Bodega with my daughter and husband on a busy Saturday night. Service was poor and not friendly (similar to how diners are sometimes treated in Spain). My red sangria was average, tapas were very good, but we waited a very long time for an order of chicken kabobs, and finally advised them to cancel the order. (They boxed up the chicken to go and did not charge us). Bodega has a warm and Spanish like ambiance, with interesting restrooms and some outdoor seating in the rear. Unfortunately it was a very disappointing dining experience for us this time.
My friends and I had brunch there this past Sunday and we had a decent experience. We were looking for a last minute reservation for a group of 5 in Georgetown and came across this restaurant on OpenTable. I was a bit disappointed in the food, I expected their brunch to be better. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as flavorful as I expected.
The food was excellent and the Sangria was great, however their air conditioner was broken (and may still be? I'd call first and ask) on the 95 degree Saturday recently in the city. It was unbearably hot but it was dinnertime on a Sat. for our party of 5 so we persevered with our guests from out of town, who were used to the heat.
We had a wonderful seafood paella, with meatballs, octopus, tortilla and a cold salad as tapas. All the food and service was very good, so no complaint there. The Manager gave us a discount for enduring the broken a/c but when the bill came and the discount reason was typed on the bill "broken air conditioner" as its own line item, it makes one wonder how often this happens at the restaurant to have its own reason code on a restaurant computerized bill?
This is one of the few tapas places in Georgetown. This was my first visit, and I had come for a special winetasting dinner. I was impressed with the enthusiasm of the welcome, and the place seemed to have an authentic Spanish feel. I'd like to return and become more familiar with the food and drink.
This Zagat rated Spanish tapas restaurant is the real deal. I have been to Barcelona twice and it really brought me back there. The mussels in saffron broth and white wine were top notch. We also had the dates, scallops, pan con tomate y manchego and all were excellent. The rustic country bread is excellent along with the Spanish olive oil for dipping.
Great tapas on the heart of Georgetown!
We had the tortilla Espanola, gambas al ajillo and chicken croquettes. Food was amazing and seasoned to perfection . Fig ice team and cortado (express with cream) was the perfect finish. Tables are a bit crowded and decor reminiscent of 1969 Mediterranean style, but all in all it was great. Food came a bit too fast
We made a reservation & were quickly seated. But it seemed that they were short on wait staff. The service was slow and we had to request it. They were kind but not attentive. The food was good, but not being familiar with Tapas, not well explained. I would not go again because I did not understand how it worked, and the staff did not ask or try take the time to find out our familiarity with this style of dining.
Service was outstanding. Meeting old friends and had a lot to catch up on. Waiter came around to take orders and we had not even looked at the menu. No problem. Dropped by after 15 minutes and we ordered our appetizers etc. Tapas allowed us to order a few tastes at a time. Good wine suggestion.
I made a reservation several weeks in advance, I called to confirm my request and I even dropped by the day of our reservation to confirm our request. We were celebrating a family B'day and I requested a window table, realizing of course they might not be able to accommodate, but they assured me they would make every effort. We arrived at 7:20 for a 7:30 res. Upon a arrival the hostess acknowledged my request and said it would be approx. 5-mins for the window table, 30-mins later we were still waiting. At which point I said we couldn't wait any longer and we will gladly take the first available 4-top. After an additional 30 -min wait....yes now it has been 1-hr there wasn't a table available and we all had to sit at the bar, completely unacceptable!! So much for our family evening with conversation together for the B'day celebration!!
The portions were very large but the food was too bland. Tapas should be small plates with very intense flavors. The food was prepared very simply as well. For example the bread with smoked salmon was a piece of bread with a piece of smoked salmon on top. The service was good and the ambiance is very nice, and it's right in the middle of everything in Georgetown so that was a plus.
We sat in the small open courtyard in the back, isolated from the steer and the bar, perfect for leisurely tapas, conversation and relaxing. House cured olives, roasted pimentos with olive oil and sea salt plus cheese board were our favorites. Service was attentive never intrusive.
When I arrived at the restaurant, the doors were locked. I called to see if they were open and they were not. A lady answered the phone and said that they had tried to call me. I had no missed phone calls. I receive phone calls from all over the world and have no issues. I was not happy with the level of service and the lack of response time. I had made reservations and paid for the car ride to get to the restaurant.
