Bodega Restaurant and Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Most of the food was good. I tried to order three different beers, but they did not have any of those I wanted in stock. The waiter kept pushing us to order our entrees, but the restaurant was not very busy and we felt a little rushed. The last plate we ordered took much longer than anticipated, and it was overcooked.
We had not been to Bodega for a year or so, so we dined there before a performance at Severance Hall. We have had several great meals at Bodega, unfortunately this was not one of them. The menu has changed and the preparation of dishes is different, so items we have loved in the past but were either not available (lobster nachos) or not enjoyable (lobster nachos and cheese). I did enjoy the beef short ribs but my wife did not eat her eggplant parmesan over pasta. The staff did take the eggplant off our check and threw in a dessert, but we left disappointed be and unsure if we will return
I ordered Chicken Fez but they were out of it. Apparently they had a big party on Friday and sold out. Odd because tonight is Sunday - 2 days later?? The waiter suggested Chicken Tajine a house special. The dish was not great, a bit salty and soupy. On a brighter note the Hummus player was good.
The everyday prices are fairly high on tapas but on Tuesday they are half price and a real treat so we took advantage of that for a great cheap meal with lots of variety. Only complaint was lots of salt in everything with tomato sauce. The escargot was incredible.
The food was amazing. Really amazing. But the service made us all uncomfortable. The staff was fighting amongst themselves and telling us about it. We didn’t know who our server was. When we found her, she was inattentive at best and downright uninterested in serving us. I don’t think we’ll go back. But for takeout, I’d go back again and again all the time. Amazing food.
Our waiter, Paul, was the highlight of our dinner, but the food was a close second! Paul was able to recommend the crab cakes, which had a lovely lemon aoili, and the lamb lollipops, which were a generous size for an appetizer. My boyfriend and I also ordered the kafta pizza and tiramisu, both of which were delicious. Paul took very good care of us, and service was just the right speed: enough to be sure it was pretty fresh, but not so long you got antsy. Also, splitting tapas and small plates was definitely the right move here; best value and most variety. We went on a Sunday night, so it was pretty empty and quiet, but they had nice music and a good atmosphere overall. Decor was kind of a mishmash, but that's not why you go to a restaurant. We didn't sit in the lounge area but it looks like it'd be fun on a Friday or Saturday. We had a Groupon so the value was great, but even without it, the place isn't unreasonably expensive at all for tapas and drinks. Would definitely recommend to a friend in the Coventry area, or going to see a show at the Grog Shop. Good food, good service, good vibe, good value!
Went on a Saturday night after buying a Groupon.
The food was good. I had Eggplant Parmesan over Fettuccine and my partner had the appetiser size Lollypop Lamb Chops.
As with other Groupon deals, the service was not good. No bread. No mention of dessert.
We dined outside in a smallish space which was adjacent to the street.
It was very pleasant and not at all noisy.
I think if I lived walking distance, I'd go there for take out.
The atomosphere is dark and the place is not ADA compliant. Service as a bit slow but the staff was friendly. Be prepared for noise, it is not a quiet venue. However, w+hat was extremely good was the food and value you received for the cost. Bodega is not cheap, but portion size even for the tapas was fantastic. Overall good place to go.
The food was ok but it was overpriced and the description in the menu weren't 100% accurate. For instance, my meal was lathered in BBQ sauce but nowhere in the menu did it mention BBQ sauce. Also the tables are rather small so your menus overlap each other. It wouldn't hurt for the server to be more friendly either but I guess he didn't care because gratuity was already included.
The food was delicious and perfectly good. The Lamb lollipops were to die for, and the mussels were too! And the snails could not have been better. The sauces for both the mussels and escargot were delectable, and the wonderful warm bread with a perfectly crunchy crust was put to use to get to every last drop,
Bodega has authentic Moroccan dishes and Ibrahim, one of the owners, has lived in the USA for many years, was there to explain and elaborate if asked. All the servers were attentive on a busy night with bigger groups and smaller tables. They also have many American choices and a great selection of beer and wines at reasonable prices. The portions are large, so they can be shared and taken home.
Enjoy this restaurant very much. This visit there was a large party in the main dining area that was overly noisy and we almost decided to leave. Once the party finally left the ambiance was quite nice. One of the owners served us personally and was extremely accommodating which helped the situation. Tuesday was 1/2 off Tapas menu which had a great selection; everything came out timely and was very good.
Manager was unfriendly, food was a pale resemblance of Moroccan food we have had elsewhere, and a curtained off area did not dampen the vocal enthusiasm of a teenaged girl's birthday party on a Saturday night. Mistake on our part to have spent time and money here. I have not made a point to exit a purported fine dining restaurant faster in many years. The wait staff tried, but it had little to work with. Don't go.
We were looking forward to our first visit to Bodega but do not plan to return. We went on a weeknight so it wasn't too busy. Warning: the online menu is not what they offer. To start, we had lobster bisque - quite thin and tasteless - and an eggplant roll that was essentially a bready eggplant parmesan. We then waited for ages for our next course. I had a flatbread that wasn't too bad other than being greasy. Our other entree was salmon. It was burned beyond recognition and served with lifeless asparagus. We should have sent it back but considering it took 45 minutes to get the food in the first place we didn't choose that option. The ambiance is quite nice in the restaurant but we were so turned off by the food, including the price, that we won't return.
We're always looking for new restaurants that work with our dietary needs. The Moroccan dishes were wonderful and contained unique flavors. Portions were more than generous and my husband and I had lunch from the remains of my entree! Definitely book ahead, as the restaurant was full by the time we left on a Saturday evening.
Overall an excellent dining experience with two management-related hiccups. First, we went there on Valentine's Day which means it was going to be busy, but they did not seem to take that into account and were understaffed so everything was slow. (Again, the server we had was fine, given how many tables she had, but it was an unfortunate situation.) Second, they would not accept our coupon. The claim was that holidays were excepted, but upon inspection when we got home, there was no indication about this whatsoever on the coupon's terms and conditions.
Beyond these things, the food was great, with very reasonable prices given the portions.
There was a large party sitting behind us. Probably 20 to 30 people. They were extremely loud and their photographer kept bumping into our chairs. So did the people. They should have had the party in a private area. Our food was also backed up due to the large party. The server apologized, but we had to get home to a babysitter which stunk. We didn't have any time left to go to other places because dinner took so long. Not the scene we were looking for for our Valentine's Day celebration. Disappointing.
This was our first time at Bodega and we had high expectations. Unfortunately, the food was below mediocre . My husband's fries looked like someone else had sent them back and they were put on his plate. Our server was nice but when we told him the meal was bad, he didn't care at all. There are a lot of great places to eat in Cleveland , do NOT waste your time on Bodega.
