I asked for the Restaurant to call me to confirm the time I reserved on Open Table but never got a response . I called 15 min before the time I reserved and they said that no tables were available until 1 hr after my reservation. Not a good experience with Open Table nor the Restaurant
First visit with friends who have been here before. Food was very good. Server was very friendly and competent. Service was ridiculously slow and the host looked like a deer in headlights trying to handle the rush of people -- clearly they need to manage the flow better and perhaps stagger the reservation and scheduling better.
Always great food and hospitality. Dessert was phenomenal.
Boccone South is an amazing dining experience. Amongst a warm and friendly atmosphere, you enjoy food that is fresh and delicious! The service is impeccable. Silvio is a gracious and attentive host. Highly recommended for an authentic Italian meal!
This is my second time and I really enjoyed it. Food was good but skip the chocolate lava cake-- it was big mistake -- not very good. I had the tilapia which was very good.
Another perfect meal with perfect service.
Wonderful dinner with friends. Our server Nicole went above and beyond to ensure our dinner was perfect. We will definitely return.
Amazing Italian food and I’m Italian so not easily impressed. Wonderful service, a BYOB which I love, and as stated the food was delicious. We had a great time. We went before a show at SOPAC so we parked, walked to dinner and walked to theater.
Great find, Food delicious, many nice touches in prep and presentation, server very friendly and accomodating Brought us a free delicious desert to share !
Always amazing service and fantastic food. My favorite place to eat in NJ.
One of my favorite places to bring friends to enjoy a great meal. I had the short ribs special WOW! The owner Silvio makes you feel right at home. Desserts were great. Mike did amazing job helping us pick what to get and served it quickly. You must try this restaurant at least once because after you do you’ll be back over and over again!
Amazing food and service. My girlfriend was gluten-free but they made her an amazing birthday meal of delicious gluten-free pasta. Grazie!
Worst. Hostess. Of. All. Time. Seriously, THE WORST.
We had 8:15 reservations. We showed up at 8:06 and she had no tables (which she whispered to us). I explained we had reservations, and she said she was sorry and there was nothing she could do. She then asked us to wait in line with the people who had walked in (without reservations). There were tables free throughout. The hostess basically hid from the people waiting in the front of the restaurant until she seated someone. She seemed completely lost and scared. I tried talking to a waiter to see if they could help (to no avail). She sat us finally around 8:50. SO FRUSTRATING.
Once we were seated, the service was good, and the pasta was very good. The appetizers (caesar salad and a mozz/prosciuto /bread / red sauce dish) were on the bad side though.
But seriously, I will never come back here given how truly awful the hostess was and how poor the service was given that we had reservations. Cautionary tale.
We had not been there in 4 years but Silvio remembered us! The food was even more incredible , the service was impeccable and the attentiveness and attention to detail explaining the different specials , recommendation of dishes, adjustments for taste and diet very good too. A relaxing atmosphere with excellent italian cuisine and great staff! What more could one ask for? We shall not wait another 4 years before we visit again!
STAY AWAY!! We had a 7:15 reservation and, when we arrived at 7:10, we were told we would be seated within 10 minutes. By 7:30 the waiting area was jammed and when we asked the host when we would be seated, he said we would be seated in another 10-15 minutes. When we suggested overbooking, the host was quite rude and he blamed OpenTable saying that, because the restaurant pays a monthly fee of $1,000 to OpenTable, OpenTable is responsible for the overbooking (we didn't understand his rationale). To say the host was rude and unprofessional is an understatement. We, of course, left without being seated. We would not patronize this restaurant if this restaurant was the only open restaurant within 50 miles.
Got there 6:20 on a Saturday and was seated promptly. Waitress was friendly and thorough. Special pasta dish with a pork sauce was yummy. Salmon and polenta was also tasty. “Special” salad was nice but not that well presented.
It was quiet when we started and the waitress read 7 specials. And they were not short. That’s exhausting. Had to ask for 2 to be repeated and there were only 2 of us. How about printing specials and then asking if we have questions?
Got the salad which was not what we ordered. Waitress agrees to give it to us as the price of the salad we ordered. Hmmm.
Later it got filled up and I think they were overbooked. Too small a place to have an annoyed line of 12 people waiting for tables. Then with with place full each table got a scream for the house specials. At this point why do you think this is working ?
Rest room was clean but had run out of towels.
So the food is good. But if you are going on a weekend after 7 it is a bit noisy. And watch the timing.
The food was fantastic with a wide variety of specials. There is no bar so it's good to know that it's BYOB.
Silvio is the most gracious host. Food is delicious. Fish specials are a must, and not just your typical Italian fare. Ask for the mussels with white wine and garlic (not on the menu but it should be!). Chef made it specially for us and it was wonderful (so good we asked for spoons).
They were closed due to the snow storm
My friend and I had a GREAT meal, fabulous service and a welcoming atmosphere during our recent visit. If you’re lucky, you’ll have Nicole as your server. She was incredible. Her knowledge of the menu, ingredients and food prep was astounding and added to the overall enjoyment and experience of the evening. In addition, her knowledge and demonstration of old world service was on display in every well-timed interaction!! We felt cared for and much appreciated. The experience was a breathe of fresh air. I hope the owners realize what a gem she is!!! The food was plentiful and delicious. We will undoubtedly book a return visit...and soon!!!
Terrible, overpriced food. Outdated decor. Never to return.
We were seated right away. The service was great and the waiter was friendly and attentive. Besides the sizable regular menu Boccone has several delicious specials each night! We decided to try the specials and we were glad we did because both of our appetizers and main courses were excellent!!! The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection! We topped off dinner with Italian coffees and special desserts! The food, the atmosphere and the service were all exceptional! We will definitely be adding Boccone South to our list of exceptional go to regular restaurants and we will keep coming back! Try this delicious Italian restaurant! You won’t be disappointed!
Missed the food and service during our vacation. Visited Boccone on our 2nd day back. Our cousins joined us. Boccone's is both our and they're favorite Italian restaurant in N.J. They just moved to the area from South N.J., however, would always come to Boccone's, an hour drive from their old house. The specials are always great, however, Saturday they had the Ahi tuna which is excellent. It's served seared, almost sushi, great. Nicole are usual server made time to chat with us even though the restaurant was crowded. Silvio also stopped by the table. A grand time was had by all, as always, BROVO
Came here to celebrate my sister's new job with her. The staff were friendly & food was amazing. I had the fish special which was delicious. Highly recommended
We tried Boccone South based on strong recommendations and we were not disappointed. Sylivo the owner was so very warm and welcoming. But let's get to the food. Warm bread to start. Which paired great with one of their appetizers - the antipasto plate. Great choices of salumi and italian cheeses. Great selections of pastas and entrees. But the best of all was the Osso Bucco. The night's special was the wild boar osso bucco. Flavorful, falls off the bone, melts in your mouth. So so good. Sylvio offers different kinds of osso bucco - veal, venison, lamb. Also, it's byob. No corkage. So bring multiple bottles. Definitely returning.
The food was delicious and the service was very friendly and efficient
First time we were there and we will be going back! Friendly service and good food. Menu plus many specials provide a wide variety of choices. They even prepared veal sorrentino for me although it is not on the menu. It was delicious! People sitting near us and several people I know go there often and say that it is consistently good.
The food is truly excellent, and the staff couldn't be nicer! Nicole was our server, and she was amazing! I can't say enough wonderful things about this restaurant.
Silvio was a wonderful host! The bread pudding dessert was amazing.
Went on Valentine's Day for which they had a "special" menu. It was overpriced, taking advantage of the larger than usual crowd that might show up on a Wednesday evening. The meal was nothing special. What appeared to be a veteran waiter chastised a new, young waiter in front of us. Bad form, and embarrassing for the young man.
You can tell the place makes it a priority to have great specials with fresh ingredients. We had the octopus appetizer, chicken dinner special and parpadelle funghi pasta. Finished with the cooked to order custard dessert. Really special. All dishes were delicious.
Food is pretty good Italian/Mediterranean. Service is friendly but the front of house staff is a bit disorganized.
Always a good time and excellent meal, Silvio takes care of everything! Our favorite local spot!
I would have given 5 stars across the board, as the food and service here are amazing, however we waited 45 mins to sit for our 7:15 reservation.
Lovely atmosphere; excellent food; good service. Reasonably priced. A great neighborhood restaurant!!!!!!!!
Great place, outstanding staff, food was excellent! Very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.
Close your eyes, scroll your finger on the menu and pick a plate : it’s going to be amazing!
Just one tip for dessert : ask for the home made Savayone,
Silvio will make it in front of you.
Silvio’s kindness and humor, as well as his team will make you have a wonderful time in the best Italian restaurant in South Orange / Maplewood!!!
The food from apps to dessert was amazing.
The service was even better!
The reservation time was respected and the service was amazing! Food was prepared to perfection including our dessert which was made right in front of us! The only downfall was there isn’t enough advertisements to say it is a BYOB and the noise level was very high.
The food presentation and service are stellar. The menu variety is fantastic as are the daily specials. Nicole knows us very well and can usually anticipate which special would interest us.
The restaurant is well run and the staff are friendly and more than accommodating for any reasonable request. Boccone's is our go to Italian restaurant in New Jersey. All of our friends and family always request Boccone's when they visit us. Bravo
