Boca Chica Restaurant
One of our favorite Mexican restaurants for the last forty years! A real gem!
We headed to Boca Chica for lunch Sunday. They called to let us know that they only had their brunch buffet available until 2pm. I thought that was really nice that they called to give us a heads up. We decided to go and check out the buffet. When we got there the restaurant was so busy that the only seating available was in the bar area, which was nice because we were the sole guests in the bar so it was quiet and relaxing. The food was great! It was very fresh and all housemade. The bartender waited on us and she was friendly and attentive, even though she was also working the bar by herself. Overall great experience!
I've been to BC to enjoy their regular menu which is also really great. I'd recommend checking them out!
Best margaritas and queso around. Food and service were outstanding. Kids loved it!
The chips were not the best, BUT everything else was delicious! The spicy mint margarita was great as well.
We dined at Boca Chica for Restaurant Week. The food was divine. The queso fundido chorizo was perfectly seasoned. It was impossible to just eat a little of that appetizer. Huerachas for an entree and the masa was perfection and the pork had a lovely smoky flavor. The flan was an eggy custard goodness and the sauce was just the right amount to avoid being too sweet. Price for the amount and quality of food cannot be beat. Only issue, which was not the restaurant’s fault, was we were seated next to a table with 5 adults and 9 kids who ranged in age from 1-14. The 1 year old shrieked the entire meal unless dad was feeding him (mom completely ignored him except to tell him to be quiet or grab his arm, which frightened him and resulted in a total tearful breakdown). The 6 year old was attempting to stab his older sister with a fork. The mom apparently has a daycare and loudly told the story of a mom of a child she used to care for contacted DHS to complain about her daycare business. Given how she managed her own children, I’m guessing any complaints are likely valid. The mom also loudly proclaimed that they also dine at El Azteca in Apple Valley and Teresa’s in Mendota Heights. I’ll be sure to avoid those establishments. If I see them at Boca Chica on my next visit, I will request a table as far from them as possible.
Came for restaurant week and will be back. All the food and drinks were excellent, portions very generous. Our server was knowlegable and friendly without being overbearing. Nice patio. ☺
Have been here many times for the lunch buffet, was always told dinner here was much better and more authentic. Service was terrible and food was slightly better than buffet. Had to try it though.
Very extensive menu. Don't overlook their Happy Hour. Good drink prices. If soup is offered with the meal, forget it. Order a salad instead.
2 tacos, a spoon of rice and a spoon of refried beans = $12.95
Grossly over priced
Would have cost $4 at taco Johns
Good food, great service.
We were seated immediately upon walking in the door. Our server was very helpful and attentive. My husband and son ordered the same menu item and when the server brought out the food she informed my husband and son that the cook had prepared the wrong items. She asked if they would try them and if they did not like it she would have the correct menu items prepared instead. They liked what they prepared.
Great food. Excellent service.
We are never disappointed with Boca Chica, our go-to for satisfying, home-style Mexican specialties. I've never had a better cheese enchilada and I compare all others to the high bar set by Boca Chica.
Food was great service was great, love sitting outside!
Has been our families favorite Mexican Food restaurant for decades.
Father's Day Buffet was heavy on sauces like they were all made in the same pot. Am willing to try again and order off regular menu as I've heard they have better food than we experienced. Sorry! Just didn't work this time.
The food was great. Our server was excellent. We had loads of fun. And, the parking lot had room for all.
It's a great place to eat, I just wish they would allow you to order off the menu on Sundays rather than have the brunch food.
Very nice restaurant with excellent food. We had originally made a reservation for 7 but one person could no longer come. The table was ready when we got there, service was prompt, food was excellent, and we got out in time to make our meeting a couple miles away. I'd definitely eat at Boca Chica again!
Great food, great atmosphere and a very enjoyable evening out!
Never been here before tonight. Everything was delicious from appetizers to drinks and main course! Will definitely be back.
Was shocked about the service and food it was not as usual and the guacamole was darkish and tasted old
Good food, pleasant ambiance--a delightful evening with friends.
Great food seated right away great service
This was our first time eating at Boca Chica and we will definitely be back! We were able to get a table quickly and the Guacamole was excellent! Our meals (4 of us), were all very good! We will make this a "regular" place to eat when we are in MN!
This is a wonderful family restaurant that is authentic, reliable and excellent food ! Served by smiling servers !
My wife and I went with our youngest son. We had not been at Boca for a few years. It was better than we remembered. Service & authentic Mexican food were all great. We Will be back! Thank you
If you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, look no further. We've been dining here for decades. The food and margarita's are top notch. Worth the drive.
We went out to dinner with another family. We all had a great time. Portions are ENORMOUS! I foolishly (brilliantly?!?) filled up on the chips and guac for a started and had enough left over for another 2 meals. We all left full and happy. Oh and they have a good list of tequilas so you can have a wide variety of margaritas as well. WINNING!!
Kids meals are also a good value: our 9 year old LOVED the fried taco, and our friend's daughter liked the French toast sticks and eggs (I know I know, to order that at a Mexican restaurant.....sigh....) so if you have picky eater kids, there are options.
Boca Chica is one of our go-to places when we are hosting out of town family/friends and are hungry for some authentic and tasty Mexican food. Love the Tostadas con Tinga de Pollo, Enchilladas, and Tamales.
3rd time in 3 weeks and as usual great food and service
We've always really liked this place, and go a handful of times a year. This time, it was apparent that they have pared down the menu, and that some of my favorites were removed. I was sad :(. The service was excellent, the food is really good, and the atmosphere is fun (particularly on the night we were there, since there was live Mariachi). We'll go back, but the menu reduction was disappointing.
Was downtown St Paul on business and go-to restaurants booked for Valentine’s. Just south across the river is great Mexican restaurant. Mariachi band was great without being obtrusive. Service excellent and prices cheaper than five minutes to the north.
It was such a friendly atmosphere. The waiter was so attentive and everyone was so nice. I was there on a date even customers were so friendly. Lady sitting next to me sparked a conversation. I love this place
Our group of 5 enjoyed a tasty, well served, meal with good vegatarian options for one of the group. Highly recommend Boca Chica.
Great, friendly service, excellent food, and the margaritas are great!
Our server was new, and slow. We usually have great service.
40 years of going there and we have never been disappointed....love food, people and dependability of the place.
I live in the Chicago area and was recommended to this restaurant. I think it was very overpriced for Mexican fare and the food was just so/so. I've had many, many better Mexican meals elsewhere for the price.
Always a great place to go to. Everything is always excellent.
