Boca Chica Restaurant
The authenticity of the food is maintained by making everything from scratch, the old-fashioned way, with fresh ingredients. Even the fiery salsa is still made with fresh tomatoes, chiles, and that special Frias family touch. Our menu includes some of the more traditional foods such as guisados, sopes, carne asada, chile rellenos, and tamales. Taste is never compromised. We also have a full bar featuring the city’s best selection of Mexican beers and premium tequilas. Voted "Best Margarita" by City Pages.
This was the worst dinner I have made through OpenTable.
Mexican tortilla chips tasted old. Quesadilla appetizer was ok but greasy. Beef steak tacos & entree well done & looked like shoe leather. Very few onions & peppers. Rice with canned peas & black beans were soaked in liquid.
Drinks were the best & needed a lot to stomach food.
Disappointing that rates high on opentable.
Very slow service meal came out wrong forgot soup
Although the food was delicious the experience with my server was so bad that we will not return
We all had a wonderful time. Food was incredible. The appetizers were stellar. The Mariachi band added even more to a wonderful evening. We shall all be back.
Had a larger group and we were seated promptly. Our server was very efficient and took care of some special dietary requests which I know are not always fun, but she was professional and everything came out hot, and right. Terrific food as usual (I’ve been a customer since the 80s), there’s a reason why they’ve been around a long time.
Great experience. I love this restaurant. Classic food.
We requested a quieter spot because one of our party was very hard of hearing and also we were celebrating a birthday. We were seated in a really quiet spot and received a free birthday dessert. The service was efficient and the server pleasant. The food was very good, everyone loved their dinner. A very nice dining experience all around!
Great as always!
Was celebrating a special birthday for my mom. Unfortunately, service wasn’t what I expected nor what is typical from other times at Boca Chica! Server hardly was at our table and wouldn’t look in our direction, so it was difficult to get her attention when there was something we needed. I mentioned my mom’s birthday to her when I was finally able to get some focus from her. She did bring ice cream and we were able to sing to her. The person who greeted us at host stand seemed more interested in eating her meal than in seating us. Disappointing experience.
We came for the music. Nick and Pedro made the evening for us.
The food was also good.
So - So place. Went for lunch and discovered it was a brunch buffet only. Lots of choices although a few trays were empty. Waitress had little interest in serving us - maybe was having a bad day. Pricey for what we got. Margarita watered down which was disappointing considering it is a Mexican restaurant.
Service was slow. Fajitas were served cold. One margarita tasted like a virgin margarita and when we spoke to server he did not replace. It was for my wife’s birthday and they didn’t do anything to recognize.
Boca Chica has been a neighborhood treasure for a long time. If you like authentic south of the border food, this is the place to visit.
A cut above the average Mexican restaurant. Great tacos and black beans, and a good beer selection. The outdoor seating was great in good summer weather.
Service was friendly and helpful. Food was well prepared and had great flavor.
The noise level was a toddler who was at the table next to ours and it was hard at times to hear the people at our table speaking.
Everything else was fantastic!
Boca Chica has been a favorite Mexican restaurant of mine since my college days, and I'm approaching retirement soon!! It's just that good and the quality of the food and the atmosphere has consistently been there. I can't think of a better Mexican restaurant in the Twin Cities!
The food is always delicious and the service is outstanding
Always excellent after many years and meals. We don't hesitate to bring guests.
Nice little restaurant with a very nice patio. Able to seat us right away, even though we were slightly early. Tex-Mex menu slightly different than normal adding variety to your common Mexican menu. Easy enough to find with plenty of off street parking. Overall a good experience, i would recommend you try.
No menu for Restaurant week lunch - only dinner.
Our check in was prompt and very courtesy. Our server was outstanding. We enjoyed the Happy Hour Appetizers which were very generous in size and a great value. Love going there.
It's a very authentic mexican restaurant and the food was delicious.
Food always great.
Service fine, but food has been going down hill for some time now. Drink prices are almost double compared to other places for rail booze. I have been going there for almost forty years. We won’t be back.
Boca Chica is always good. Service is friendly. Food is delicious. Location is good. Noise level can be challenging sometimes--but not always!
Food was excellent as always. Our server was delightful.
Service was a little slow considering we started out as the only customers in our server's section when we arrived. Super good food though!
My friend and I brought our dads there for Fathers Day and everyone was very nice. I am 10 and my friend is 11. Thank you for treating up nice. Our dads had a great time!
Can be pricey, but it is the best Mexican food in the state!
Server Elizabeth did an excellent job.😊👍🥗🌮
Great food and excellent prices. We plan to return this summer and bring some of our family.
This is an authentic Mexican restaurant with amazing food and friendly staff. It's by far my favorite place to go with my husband or friends. We've been enjoying Boca Chica for about 35 years, and have even hired them to cater for us.
A friend and I had supper on Sunday evening. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server was very busy but took time to answer questions. We each ordered something different, and the portions were very generous. Thus we each took home a to-go box. The price was very reasonable, and we both enjoyed our food.
Boca Chica is always a pleasant experience. Good food, great service. My only complaint or issue is that it can be hard to hear your party at times due to the volume of noise in the restaurant. Although, that seems true with many restaurants and I am not sure how you could change that.
We will be back after our first visit and we'll bring friends.
Always satisfying, nice patio, great food, good price. Love the Taco Tuesday!
It is very cute in there, our waiter was very friendly, and it was a great night overall.
Always so much fun and a great experience! Our good, cocktails and service was as amazing as usual. Great authentic menu with amazing flavo
Disappointed with our margaritas on the rocks, found out it isn’t made fresh. You could taste it and we asked about it. Waitress was very friendly, I must say, this was one of our not favorite visits to the restaurant. I have been coming to Boca Chica’s forever, always been my favorite place, but seems like it has gone down a little. Please bring it back to the way your family had it, they took pride. I don’t mean to put you all the way down, I still love your restaurant, just had a couple times we were a little disappointed.
