Bob's Steak & Chop House - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Visited Bob's Steak and Chop House while in San Francisco over new year. Not the cheapest but the food quality and quantity was superb. Both my wife and I had the fillet steak which was cooked to perfection and we both agreed this was one of the best steaks we've ever tasted. The waiting staff were also superb.
If ever back in San Francisco again, we will definitely be coming back.
Our server was great. She was really attentive without being overbearing. She recognized that the steak was not prepared correctly before we even had to mention anything. It is unfortunate that the cooks have no idea how to prepare a steak. They overcooked my wife's steak and mine was flavorless. I substituted the overcooked steak with an overpriced lobster that smelled like the San Francisco piers. My wife decided to eat my steak, which she ate more than half of by the time my lobster arrived.
Steak was very good! However, they need to improve on the presentation of the food. It literally looks like they picked a carrot from the soil and just put it on your plate. It also had a Apple cinnamon glaze on it, not a fan. The bread and butter on the table was underwhelming. Bread didn’t taste good and it was messy. Service was very good but it was slow that night, so that should be expected.
Had a last minute Christmas dinner here and TOTALLY beat our expectations. Yes, a steakhouse in a hotel is a dangerous thing - lord knows Bourbon @ the St. Francis burned us big time with super overpriced menu and subpar food. Bob's was the opposite, and the MARTINIS... reason alone to come here.
I found the service less than what I would expect from an establisment of this price range and location. The atmosphere was nice and the setting was very pleasant. The food was just OK and the service was the same. I am not a fan of this establisment and will not be back.
We visit Bob's once or twice a year to spurge and it never disappoints. Pricey but not stuffy, and the food is never flawed. Booths are best if available, but in any part of the place you can actually hear the other person talk, which is essential for us and sadly now rare in SF.
Took some folks from work out to lunch at Bob's Steak and Chop House. The service was excellent, the menu selections and daily specials were interesting and diverse. Needless to say, their steaks were excellent and cooked to perfection. Their seafood was very good as well - very large, fresh jumbo prawns, fresh dungeness crab, and the halibut dish was delicious. We were pleasantly surprised that everyone liked the restaurant very much, despite having diverse palettes and food restrictions. Prices were high, but not excessive for a high end SF restaurant. Highly recommend if you're in the financial district.
Had a great Dinner with Friends, Post- Thanksgiving/ Holiday season dInner. We started off with the Onion Rings for our appetizers. Then, My hubby got a Caesar salad for starters and I got the Green Salad with Apples, Spicy Pecans, and substituted the Blue Cheese for the Goat cheese. My hubby got the Bone-in Rib Eye with the Potatoes & Grilled Onions & Gravy. I ordered the Lobster Tail and it came with a Baked potatoe, and carrot.
The drinks were just okay. The only bad thing that I can say is that, they don't validate parking, unless you do Valet Parking, so don't do the parking across the street!
Perfectly prepared turkey with trimmings on Thanksgiving. We started with fried calamari and crab cake app. I had the river rib eye steak with potatoes in a brown mushroom gravey. My significant other and daughter had the traditional turkey meal with which they could not stop raving about the flavors and moistness. My steak was prepared very well and seasoned fully.
My wife and I were truly disappointed with our dining experience. For starters, we were seated right next to the very busy double swinging doors a few feet from the kitchen. Secondly, the waiter was mostly inattentive; I would say he spent less than 5 minutes with us during the hour or so we we were there. Our food was actually served by someone else... Most importantly, the food was only passable - for $48.00 per serving I expected more. The occasion was Thanksgiving and we each ordered a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The proposed salad and desert courses were quite limited and were priced at an additional $24.00. We chose not to partake... The turkey was cut from a role, not from a freshly roasted turkey; the only vegetables were very tiny carrots (about 3 inches of which I was served 3 and my wife just 2); there were ample servings of potatoes and dressing .
The sad part was that we returned here especially because the prior year we had the same traditional Thanksgiving dinner at this same restaurant and everything was OUTSTANDING.
I don't know what changed at this place from last year to this, but we will NOT return!
Here for Thanksgiving meal. $75.00 for 3 courses. Service was bad. A person cleared everything off my table after 1st course and asked if I wanted my check. I replied that I would like to eat my meal first. He ran off and spoke to my waitperson. My waitperson came over and said I thought you had your meal. please note this was at 4pm and very few customers. Turkey was under cooked. Turkey skin was raw looking no color and still very soft like when you first put the bird in the oven.
My first time there and had a fantastic experience. The ambiance was "old school" while being very hip. The food selections were plentiful and the servings were quite ample. All dishes selected by my group were fresh and visually appealing. All agreed this was a home run.
You will not be disappointed!
