Bob's Steak & Chop House - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Had a great Dinner with Friends, Post- Thanksgiving/ Holiday season dInner. We started off with the Onion Rings for our appetizers. Then, My hubby got a Caesar salad for starters and I got the Green Salad with Apples, Spicy Pecans, and substituted the Blue Cheese for the Goat cheese. My hubby got the Bone-in Rib Eye with the Potatoes & Grilled Onions & Gravy. I ordered the Lobster Tail and it came with a Baked potatoe, and carrot.
The drinks were just okay. The only bad thing that I can say is that, they don't validate parking, unless you do Valet Parking, so don't do the parking across the street!
Perfectly prepared turkey with trimmings on Thanksgiving. We started with fried calamari and crab cake app. I had the river rib eye steak with potatoes in a brown mushroom gravey. My significant other and daughter had the traditional turkey meal with which they could not stop raving about the flavors and moistness. My steak was prepared very well and seasoned fully.
My wife and I were truly disappointed with our dining experience. For starters, we were seated right next to the very busy double swinging doors a few feet from the kitchen. Secondly, the waiter was mostly inattentive; I would say he spent less than 5 minutes with us during the hour or so we we were there. Our food was actually served by someone else... Most importantly, the food was only passable - for $48.00 per serving I expected more. The occasion was Thanksgiving and we each ordered a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The proposed salad and desert courses were quite limited and were priced at an additional $24.00. We chose not to partake... The turkey was cut from a role, not from a freshly roasted turkey; the only vegetables were very tiny carrots (about 3 inches of which I was served 3 and my wife just 2); there were ample servings of potatoes and dressing .
The sad part was that we returned here especially because the prior year we had the same traditional Thanksgiving dinner at this same restaurant and everything was OUTSTANDING.
I don't know what changed at this place from last year to this, but we will NOT return!
Here for Thanksgiving meal. $75.00 for 3 courses. Service was bad. A person cleared everything off my table after 1st course and asked if I wanted my check. I replied that I would like to eat my meal first. He ran off and spoke to my waitperson. My waitperson came over and said I thought you had your meal. please note this was at 4pm and very few customers. Turkey was under cooked. Turkey skin was raw looking no color and still very soft like when you first put the bird in the oven.
My first time there and had a fantastic experience. The ambiance was "old school" while being very hip. The food selections were plentiful and the servings were quite ample. All dishes selected by my group were fresh and visually appealing. All agreed this was a home run.
You will not be disappointed!
I used to love this place. I worked for 19 years across the street in the Mills Bldg (220 Mtg) and we would come here for Christmas lunch, business lunches, meetings etc. However it was so disappointing to see how the portions have gotten so much smaller! My guest and I both had the Cobb Salad and it was so much smaller than before. Also I wonder if you are using a different vendor for the bread. Used to be big warm rolls. Now practically sliced white bread. What the hell?? The waiter gave us our bill WHILE WE WERE STILL FINISHING OUR SALADS. We may have wanted coffee or something else. We laughed. No big deal but sad. This used to be an "occasion" place. When we went I think there were just one other couple. and it was noon on a business day. Sad. it is such a beautiful place and location. Sad
Good meal for our anniversary since we wanted steak or prime rib. The key lime pie was delicious and the potato and carrot giant size. We got bread served with the meal but no salad unless extra. Where we live none of that is an extra although this is true in San Fransico.
The service was very good. Unfortunately our food didn't
have much taste. My steak was just blah. I kept putting more and more salt on it, but nothing seem to help. I will say their bread was really good. That was the highlight of the meal. We ordered dessert, but they were out of everything we tried to order. No brownies or ice-cream for the brownie sundae . I would not go back. Too many options in San Francisco to go back to tasteless Bob's.
The service was terrible. I ordered a salad to replace starchy vegetables and the salad tasted old. I ordered mint sauce to go with my rack of lamb and they had none. Said they had run out days before. No gravy or sauce offered. Just a rack of lamb. I will say it was tasty but very bland the way it was served. The vegetable on the plate was one large peeled carrot! They took away my plate and left my husbands sitting there long after he finished without checking to see if he was finished. We arrived and there was no one to seat us. I ordered Bacardi and Soda and the served said they didn't carry that kind of Vodka! Bacardi is Rum!!! I wanted to order dessert but I had mentioned it was our anniversary so they brought us one piece of cake to share! I don't eat chocolate cake and they never showed with the dessert menu so at that point I got the cheque and left! What a disappointment for our special night.
Great steak cooked perfectly. Huge salads but offer a half salad if requested which is a great deal. Potatoes come with the dinner, not a la carte and there are 3 to choose from although the skillet potatoes with the onion gravy is always my choice. My martini was perfect, large and cold. Would certainly go back.
