Bob's Steak & Chop House - San Antonio Ratings and Reviews
Took my date to Bob’s and we both ordered the 9oz filet; She asked for medium rare, I asked for black & blue. Upon getting our steaks, we had to send them back, as they weren’t cooked properly. Got them back a few minutes later and mine was close enough to what I’d asked for, and hers was no different. Needless to say she left hungry, and I was disappointed in the cooks for not knowing the proper way to do a steak, especially at a prime steak house.
Were here with a few special friends for a belated 50th anniversary dinner. Our server Stephanie was attentive and pleasant. The drinks are generous . The wine list is extensive. The food?? Superb. Bob’s is one of 2 very definite San Antonio choices for a perfect evening dining experience!
Very good food, out bill for two people was 279 before tip. We has two appetizers, two mains, 2 glasses of wine, 5 beers and 2 deserts with coffe and tea. The fillets were great but with the fried lobster it was unique and something I would consider special. The carrot was a classy and cool thing as well. Definitely a place to impress. I wish they would not allow flip flops though.
We celebrated a birthday during our visit. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent! We made reservations and indicated we had a birthday. When we got there the server brought a birthday card signed by the staff. Very nice touch! We also got to select a dessert for the birthday boy! Oh, and those pickles! Love them! Great dinner!
We've loved Bob's for many years but tonight's experience was so disappointing that we are unlikely to return.
They did not have the ingredients to make 2 classic martinis: an Aviation or Last Word.
The steak was incredibly salty and undercooked.
The server felt compelled, for some reason, to fill our wine glasses to ¾ full creating mugs o' wine; maybe okay for a $25 bottle of wine or wine by the glass but not for a +$100 bottle.
Manager's explanation for the undercooked steak is that Bob's cooks steaks at a temp less than most. My guess is that they prefer to undercook the steaks so they can correct that with an additional cook of the same steak if patrons complain. A self-described "steaks and chop house" should be able to deliver steaks at the temp and description THEY describe.
Really enjoyed Bob's for my birthday. There was variety to the menu and the specials, but I'm a ribeye kinda girl. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. Everything we ate was so good. Makes me sad the next special occasion in my life is six months out. Only negative was trying to get a good tablet. I made a reservation for two days in advance and noted it was for a birthday celebration. There was a lot of availability through OpenTable. We arrived on time and finely dressed. The first table they offered was in the back with the families with loud kids and patrons dressed in jeans / t-shirts, and in a walk way. Second one was in the servers walk way at the bar. I asked why we couldn't get a booth and was told they were all reserved. I almost walked out I was so upset. The restaurant was not full when we arrived or two hours later when we left. Eventually we were seated at a nice, quiet booth. Our server was top-notch. Hosts at the door, not so much. Lesson learned: I will specify booth or table "not in walk way" for next occasion.
Bob's at the Rim continues to be one of our local favorites. Great cocktails and steaks. Nice choice of sides. We're happy we can request no carrot but we know there are many who love that. Our steaks were just slightly underdone but it's hard to get just right when ordering medium rare. They weren't under cooked enough to return.
This is my wife and I's go to place for special occasions. This time it was particularly special; our anniversary and last night out before our first child. So I had told Bob's that in the reservation, and they went above and beyond for us. Everyone told us happy anniversary, we got a free dessert, they gave us a corner "C" shaped booth, they had a card signed by everyone for us, it was simply fantastic. They have never let us down and always go above and beyond.
Went for my birthday and EVERYTHING from beginning to end was absolutely AMAZING. Fried lobster tail app is tender and delectible. Steaks cooked to perfection. Martini and wine outstanding..really great selection of wines by the glass...something for everyone. Ask for Adrian..he is an absolute pro! Thank you Bob's & staff for my bday card and all around perfect evening!
Food was great when we finally received it. It took almost an hour and a half to get our meal. Our waitress disappeared and when we asked why the food took so long, the manager said our steaks take a little more time than normal. We figured they messed up our order and tried to keep it from us. Manager did buy us a round of drinks to make up for it but frankly a little honesty would have sufficed. We were late to a show that we had already purchased tickets. This was our first time eating at Bob's and probably the last.
A relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. Service was above five stars. The 12-oz filet was cooked perfectly. My friend's salmon was a beautiful site and tasty. Absolutely love those pickles! Kind of quirky for a high-end steakhouse the pickles add a unique charm. This is the fifth time I have dined at Bob's this year and am looking forward to more.
We were celebrating an anniversary. When we were sat at our table we saw a bottle of champagne and a card addressed to us. The card was signed by several staff memebers and the chef. I do not eat meat and the chef made me a special vegetarian dish! It was delicious. They go above and beyond to make your experience memorable. We enjoyed the entire experience.
My wife and I went to Bob's to celebrate her birthday. Exceptional experience! Service was absolutely impeccable from all involved and food was the best we have had in a very long time. Classic decor and a booth perfect for quiet conversation rounded out the romantic evening. Highly recommend Bob's for any special occasion!
