Bob's Steak & Chop House - Dallas on Lemmon Avenue Ratings and Reviews
Have never had a bad dish here - steak was cooked exactly as ordered and delicious. Garlic mashed potatoes also outstanding. Caesar salad perfect. Tanqueray martinis also 10 on a scale of 10. You walk in here and it could be 1968 instead of 2018 - Bob's is a solid, classic old-style steak house. Our most recent visit was on a Saturday night and place was packed - a convention was in town - wait staff clearly could not keep up. Took a loo-oong time for our entrees to arrive but waitress was extremely apologetic and comped us on the dessert so all is well. A delightful meal. Noise level was 11 on a scale of 10, however, so beware.
Bob's on Lemmon is the Quintessential Steakhouse. I love this place and visit it every time I get a chance while in Dallas. This is an exceptional well priced place serving mouth watering perfectly ages prime steaks. Whether you eat in the oak paneled dining room or at the counter in the bar the experience is consistently great. The ladies who run the bar are efficient and friendly, the dinning room staff are outstanding. I have been to a few other Bob's locations, my favorite is the old time charm of the Lemmon restaurant.
I was looking forward to a quiet evening with friends. After looking at reviews and pictures, I decided we would give it a try, so a reservation for 7 was made. When we arrived, some of our party was already seated. The hostess desk was chaotic and we were told to go find them around the corner. It was very hard to have a conversation as the noise level was high-was not really expecting that. It made the dinner a little uncomfortable. The food was excellent, but the service very slow.
We will probably not go back as there are many other options in the area.
The steaks were outstanding. The person who ordered the New York Strip said it was the best he had ever had and he has eaten them everywhere! My filet was delicious and the leftovers provided a full meal the next day. The baked potato was perfect and enjoyed the big carrot. Service was excellent. Could do without the TVs in the corners, but they weren't huge or loud so not a big distraction. Would love to go back.
Although we had a reservation we still had to wait 20 minutes. I had the filet and it was dry and not very tasteful; they would not offer any Au Jus. The mashed potatoes include the skin, not very tasteful either. I have had better filets in many places as a comparison, like a Capital Grille, for example, or a Morton's.
Ellen Sokatch was super in listening to and addressing my concerns.
Had a 7:30 res. Arrived at 7:20. Was told no table was available, but I saw a booth, which I had requested, was available and set up.
25 min later we were escorted to that very booth: Waiter was curt.
Had drink orders and bread brought in a timely manner. The the waiter "disappeared". Ordered. Received our order at 9:00! Totally disgusted by this time because the table of 8 three feet away was LOUD and drunk and obnoxious. Couldn't even have a conversation at our table without yelling. Was told when our food finally arrived that our order had accidentally been over looked. Food was cold and the scalloped potatoes were just a big blob of inedible starch.
Our dinner, after Ms Sokatch listened to my concerns, was compted. As well it should have been.
To make things worse: it was our very first time at this restaurant.
And may I add: Our Last.
We used to be regulars at Bob’s until we moved away 5 years ago. We moved back and went to Bobs for a family pre-Christmas celebration. We were disappointed! Steaks were over cooked. They no longer have a small filet for those of us with smaller appetites. The smallest filet is now a 9oz. I left half of this over cooked big steak on the plate. What a waste! The carrot which I used to love to the point of craving it is now very over carmalized. Too sweet to even eat. Lastly our waiter. He was cheesy and asked if we were over 21. My husband and I are 52 and haven’t been carded in at least 15 years. I know you think I should be flattered but combined with calling my husband “most distinguished gentleman” the entire time it didn’t really rinG true. I expect better at a restaurant of Bob’s caliber and price point. Doubt we’ll be back.
Excellent steaks and excellent bread! Butter came out hard- in my opinion, it should always be served soft. Pickles on the table were tasteless. Sides had minimal seasoning (asparagus and green beans) and calamarie was over cooked. French wine ordered was excellent, but way overpriced.
It was extremely loud. My first and last visit. Service was great!
