Bob's Steak and Chop House - Austin Ratings and Reviews
The food is ALWAYS good at Bob’s, as is the service. The servers are knowledgeable and can make recommendations that make sense... not just something that looks like up-selling. This server was also willing to say, “I’m not really a ________ drinker, BUT ______ sells really well here,” AND told of it’s characteristics.. I wish I remembered his name... he was very good, AND then made an ENORMOUS hot fudge sundae for us. He said the dessert person was busy and since we accepted his challenge that it was the “best in Austin,” he wanted to make sure to back up the claim!! He was right! Our family agreed that the reliability of ALWAYS having excellent food and service sets Bob’s apart in a city of very good restaurants, especially steak places.
Waitress talked too fast and mumbled
Salads lacked dressing,
Appetizer was competent, but the accompanying sauces (plate) was remove from the table before we were both finished (speed dining?)
Side dish- brussels sprouts (which are green right?) arrived as a mound of tumble weeds and ashes mixed with pork belly... I was not brave enough to take a second bite.
Steaks were great, but the damage was done.
Headed up to the roof top bar to "decompress" .... was met with nice views but available seating was nonexistent. Headed for the elevator.....Second visit?....nope
Service was the first thing I noticed. A+. The calamari appetizer was surprisingly very good. The steaks were very flavorful, well-seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Unfortunately, that’s where it ended. The skillet fried potatoes were almost inedible; undercooked and covered in some slop they labeled as gravy. Not cooked well and absolutely no flavor. The creamed spinach was only slightly better. Way too much cream; almost losing sight of anything that would resemble spinach.
I would consider returning, but only if I didn’t have to be served the potatoes or the spinach.
My husband & I splurged during our visit to Austin and were not disappointed! Our server Alvin was attentive without hovering. The lobster bisque had large pieces of lobster and the filet was melt in your mouth! I highly recommend the smashed potatoes - yum. My mouth is watering recalling our wonderful dining experience.
We were visiting Austin and decided to give Bob’s a try- so glad we did! This was most definitely the best meal we have ever eaten and that’s saying a lot. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The meal, filet and rib-eye, was hot all the way through and cooked to perfection. Don’t pass on the garlic mash. Well portioned plates, you get a lot for the price. Can’t say enough about our experience at Bob’s.
Terrible food and service. I have been to Bob’s several times in Dallas area and it was always great. This place not so much. I don’t think the waiter was properly trained to work at a fine steakhouse. The brussels sprouts were the only good item we had. Steaks were over cooked and not tender. I am not going to even comment on the terrible carrot cake that was supposed to be complimentary but it was not. On top of everything 18% tip was added to a party of just 4. I should have trusted the bad reviews I read.
Fooled by all the good reviews. We went here for a treat to celebrate selling our house, and left disappointed.
Good - Service was good. The waiter was knowledgeable, and when we asked a question he didn't know, he went to find out the answer.
Bad- Food, all around. My steak was way overcooked (asked for medium, got well done with no pink),my husband ordered the crab cakes which were all filler and only tasted like peppers.
They added 18% gratuity to the check automatically, claiming the it was policy due to it being a busy weekend with F1. Doesn't seem like a reason to me for a party of 2 to be charged. The decor was dark, bland, and outdated. Needless to say, we will never go back. Waste of money.
This was only our second time at Bob’s. Our first experience was soon after they opened, and was a disaster.
After hearing from friends how great the food was, we decided to have my birthday dinner there. The bar staff started out not overly friendly, but warmed after a little time, while we waited for the rest of our group.
Craig, our waiter, was great. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and fun. The fried lobster as an appetizer was amazing; as was the calamari.
Our dinner took a turn when our steaks arrived. They were both over cooked, having been ordered medium, but coming out well done. Since we were in a group of 8, we didn’t send them back.
Overall, I’d give Bob’s solid 4 out of 5. I would be a bit hesitant, but would go back nonetheless.
Another home run for Bob's Steak and Chop House! While there were some amazing specials on the menu (my companion opted for the filet mignon and fried lobster tail bites), I couldn't tear myself away from the regular menu once I noticed the filet with lump crab, asparagus, and hollandaise sauce. Oh, and I might add this was AFTER we started with a wedge salad and lobster bisque. Everything was AMAZING! Bob's has a great ambiance - opt to dine in the room beyond the bar if you want a more private, quiet dining experience - dine in the main room if you want to people watch and feel the buzz surrounding the downstairs bar. Be sure to check out the upstairs bar and outdoor dining patio - great space and view. Love this restaurant!
Ate dinner with the wife for our 25 year anniversary. Loved the atmosphere, but I had very high expectations for the food and was let down drastically. I enjoyed the onion rings more than the rack of lamb and my wife enjoyed the mac n cheese more than her steak. Very disappointing...
Had dinner for my husband's birthday. Reservations made in advance. Excellent experience from start to finish. Valet parking steps away from entrance to Bob's. Hostess promptly seated us. Water, bread, etc. immediately served when we sat down. Heather, our waitperson, was prompt with drink order, answered questions about the menu that we had and took our order in a timely manner. Despite Bob's being very busy, our dinner did not take long being served. Dinner was excellent!! Dessert was complimentary.
Enough cannot be said for Heather-very engaging, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu when we asked questions.
We have eaten at Bob's many times and have never been disappointed. Will definitely dine at Bob's again and will continue to recommend Bob's to anyone who is looking for a nice dining experience.
There are many classic steakhouses doing what Bob's does, and clearly doing it better. The bread is boring, my steak was rare instead of medium rare and not all that flavorful for being an expensive feature, and my espresso was burnt. When you're not doing innovative fare, everything had better be on point, and Bob's misses the mark.
My Son was just hired by a local company and has moved his family to Austin, we drove down from San Jose California the day prior.....desiring a decent steak dinner in ANY Texas steak place.
We had zero idea that the experience would rival any dining experience before that night !
Our server, a young lady named Gracia ? was one of , if not THE, best servers I have ever encountered....the Steak was ridiculously tasteful and cooked to perfection....it amazed both my Son and myself.
Thank you for the first of what will be many visits to your wonderful resturant
