Boathouse Horseshoe Bay - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
This was the last day of this location, very sad that it was closing. with friends living in Nanaimo and I living in West Vancouver, it was the perfect place to meet, close to the ferry and home. The food was great, better than at all the other places in Horseshoe Bay, the view was unparalleled. So now where are we going? even with m y husband we came here on our own, and with guests, it was our favourite place. Driving to the other locations, all far away or across the busy bridge ... not worth the drive.
The manager came to talk to us, the waiters were fantastic, I only hope that it will reopen soon.
One thing that was very annoying was that I made a very early reservation and there were lots of window seats available when we arrived but they seated us away from the window. When I asked if we could be moved to a window side table, the response was "no, those are for our special customers." I said, "even though I reserved a table and we are not here during a busy time?" To which the rather snarky response was "no, you are not part of our special elite club..." Actually, they have no idea if I am part of that club or not, since they never asked!
Was very insulted and irritated by this response.
So, beware, Open Table guests--you are NOT special!
Horseshoe Bay location is our favourite, waterfront and the cozy fireplace. We went there also because it's closing for good next week. Kind of wanted to go for one last time.
My coconut pacific cod tasted consistent but size of fish is way smaller than when I was there a month ago. My daughter enjoyed her crab cakes a lot, so did my son who ordered the cod and chips until he saw a tangled worm on his last bite. We didn't want to complain as it was literally the last bite and thought it's no point since they are closing in a week.
I ordered a ginger cider and came missing all the trimmings, apparently the bar tender didn't know it came with fresh ginger, bitters and lemon juice. I did ask about the rest of the ingredients and was returned with lemon juice and bitters but not sure about the fresh ginger. My son's pacific Caesar is very water down and wasn't sure if he got a virgin Caesar instead. My children felt it wasn't worth sending that second drink back so I didn't.
Overall a little disappointed for lunch for three that costs $113, but I still left 15% tip because the server was great.
Typical Boathouse dinner. Waiter was helpful (a bit overly at times). I would like to have the option of changing my meal a bit if I want. But it seems to be quite the ordeal to do that. The steak was not great. It's not a good cut of steak and I found it kind of tasteless. The stuffed lobster tail was awesome and I would have like to have had a 2nd one without a steak, but it was too complicated.
Our family love this beautiful restaurant & are so very upset that they are closing for good on Nov 30th!!! There is no other location as beautiful & because of high end complexes that are going to be built, & the West Vancouver Council voted for it! Feel so bad for the great staff there, and all the people who will not be able to enjoy such a lovely, unique, experience!
My fiance and I had a wonderful dinner. We heard that the Horseshoe Bay location was set to close at the end of November 2016 so we decided to check it out. We are so glad that we did. The staff were friendly and inviting. We were extremely lucky to be served by the very lovely STEPHANIE!! She was nothing short of the perfect waitress!!
We had a reservation for 6 pm and arrived about 7 minutes early. The hostesses were quick to remind us that happy hour was still available and we were seated quickly to have the opportunity to take advantage of the great appy/drink deals! We did not feel rushed to make a decision despite coming close to the 6 pm cut-off-time.
We had 2 appies, drinks, entrees, 2 desserts and coffee. Everything came out quickly and fresh. The food was delicious and the service was top notch! it's a shame that this location is closing down. The view is spectacular...even in the evening!
Nice views on a bright day. It was lovely to sit by the window and look out. I wondered whether the music was for the patrons (mostly seniors) or the staff. I am sure those dining would not have chosen the Pop music. That music would be better for a bar scene.
Enjoyed our lunch anyway.
We were not impressed because we were under the impression because we had Keg gift cards, and when we booked the reservation, I called up the reservation under 'Keg Boathouse' and then when we went to pay and submit the gift cards they were declined because the waitress told us, along with the manager in a telephone conversation the next day, that they are not officially a Keg. Why are they listed under the Keg locations when you key in to google? I have submitted a separate email to Mike Brisbois, General Manager at his recommendation to pursue your marketing division to address this.
Sad to see an old friend closing...
The boathouse has been around for 35 years or so in horseshoe bay. It is one of the greatest locations to dine in the world. The food is very good to great and the value is not bad. The service is generally only fair. With the view, it really doesn't matter.
I have learned that the restaurant might be back in a couple of years when the condo project is done.
This is a good seafood restaurant but what sets it apart and makes it special is the gorgeous location and view of horseshoe bay, so I would certainly recommend a table next to a window.
Service was corteous and fast, food except for the mediocre dessert w also very good,
Sat by a window looking out at the Marina and the coming and goings of the ferries The day was sunny and bright and the waitress was delightful The food was well presented and served very hot. The wine was nice but by the glass too expensive. My husband and I will visit again if the occasion arises and we are in Horseshoe Bay
We were very disappointed in the following as we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary: drinks after ordering had to request as not brought to table / sea food platter disappointing not related to menu description / brought two dessert menus one out of date. Main dessert item Crème Brulee not available! / over charged for items and after waiting some period of time had to locate waiter and request bill. Strongly suggest you review reasons for attending this location. What about the view!
Again very disappointed.
This used to be one of my favourite Vancouver restaurant chains. The new American chain owners have ruined it as this was a second try I have given it since the ownership change and it was worse than the previous. I ordered 3 things that were not available (and it was only 7:30pm on a Friday) before being able to get a starter and entree that was available. The other 3 of us had at least 1 thing as a first choice that was not available. The salmon was overcooked to the point of dry and chewy. This is Vancouver and the cooks couldn't even do salmon properly!!
I can go on and on about this occasion and the previous one but its not worth it. I have eaten at the Boathouse at least 100 times in my life for business and social occasions. I have brought well over 500 guests to your restaurants but never again. This is a sad day for me as the Horsehoe Bay Boathouse in particular has been the site of many special personal memories!!
Despite being not overly busy the noise level was high. we requested a window seat but did not get one. Service was very slow, wine request was unavailable, the price keeps going up and the overall experience going down. I had steak and prawns, a dish I have had there several times over the years and have never had such a small portion of steak and such a large portion of mashed potatoes to fill the plate . I don't think that staff should be hanging around the front door smoking , it does not add to the ambience
I have sent an email already to the manager. We had a nice evening with our server, Jen looking after us for our 35th anniversary. You should probably re-thing Your Landrys program with this restaurant as it seems to create some tension with regular customers. As far as I can see, the Boathouse is the only restaurant in our region that offers the Landrys program. We are not a fan.
The level of service was poor. For instance we had barely finished our starter when the server arrived with the main course and expected us to clear the starter dishes so she could put down the main course.
THE SERVICE WAS FAR TO RUSHED , you have reduced a good restaurant almost to the level of a dinner!
Nice place with great view and friendly service. Downside was a lot of crashing and banging coming from the kitchen. The Cobb salad appeared a few minutes after being ordered and looked as if the veg had been chopped a few days before. The smoked salmon hash...poached eggs underdone, potatoes pre cooked and warmed up, smoked salmon very dry and hollandaise sauce very watery. Tuna tacos tasty but like fast food.
I don't think we'll be going back any time soon.
The bruchetta 'crouton' was very dry and shattered with a bite or an attempt to pierce with a fork. Difficult to eat in a dignified way, but very tasty nonetheless. The filet was slightly underdone, but also delicious and all of the food on the plate was warm (a rarity in many restaurants).
