I will start with the pros of our dining experience (because there were few): we asked for a table with a view when we made our reservation, and we were given one with a stunning glimpse of the beach and ocean at sunset; the complimentary bread was freshly baked (though reasonably delayed because of this).
The cons were numerable: our server was awkward; the seafood in 3/4 seafood dishes (crab linguine, crab and lobster ravioli, and salmon) was not fresh - they all smelled noticeably of ammonia - while the non-seafood dishes were generic and, therefore, overpriced.
This was my first experience with the Boathouse brand, which at first glance came across as just another of many The Keg clones, and I can tell you it does not deserve that comparison - there is nothing quality about it other than its choices in real estate.
My final complaint was involving a strange bill that took nearly ten minutes to create: we asked our server to split payment between gift cards and one credit card, and he returned with numerous bills asking use to sign for each while withholding the one with the total. When we asked for the receipt, which he had crumpled up into a ball, he then explained that his manager had used the gift certificate to discount portions of each menu item and that was why it took so long to generate! We were left too baffled to make a fuss, but the sketchiness surrounding the multiple receipts (when we asked for it all to be together), the crumpling and withholding of the actual receipt with the total on it, and the confusing way of separating the bill between two payment methods was enough for us to just accept the experience as a loss, and be gladly on our way.
My recommendation - go to another restaurant and take a walk on the beach (before or after) instead.
The waitress was a little impatient with us, maybe because we are seniors? She left the food waiting in the kitchen so by the time it got to our table it was lukewarm.
Food quality good.
Maybe too noisy for seniors in the evening.
Very good dessert
The tuna was a bit over cooked.
Appetizers are delicious
The view was beautiful, the service was good and the food was reasonably good but very pricey. We had just eaten at Le Crocodile the night before with white tablecloths, exceptional service and exceptional food and the prices were the same. So we felt the value at the Boathouse was not as good.
Food and service great. Very thankful to be able to move tables to the other end of the restaurant as there was a family with young very noisy screaming children at the next table and I know it would have ruined our meal. Don’t expect that at a high end restaurant where we are paying good prices for our food and wine to celebrate a birthday. . Seemed like MacDonalds. .
This was a special occasion: my wife and I were getting together to celebrate my wife's birthday as well as the birthday of her childhood friend. We lucked into a spectacular sunset view over English Bay. As for the restaurant experience, we received exceptional service. Our server was knowledgable about the menu choices. She also guided us to the special deal for a three-course meal. The cost is an extra $10 over the cost of the entree. The food and the wine were outstanding. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. She also acknowledged the two birthdays without calling attention to our table. The meal was not cheap but I feel we received very good value for our money. I don't mind paying extra to get a great experience. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Finding parking in the neighbourhood is an issue. The restaurant offers a valet service to overcome this problem.
We were disappointed the restaurant was not busy. Food service location all excellent. Perhaps some updated renovations and furnishings will attract more customers.
Valet service wonderful!!!
Try the Boathouse again!
This was our first time to this location and we were very disappointed with the service. We were given a gift card for my husband's birthday so we decided to use it for this special occasion. Unfortunately, the one server working that night forgot about our dessert, didn't refill our waters, and wasn't anywhere in sight when we were done our meal. My husband had to go find him and request some service. There were only two other tables besides us in the restaurant at that time. We won't be returning to this location.
Tasty food and agreeable staff. Enjoyable experience
We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Boathouse English Bay with friends in mid February on a weekday. The restaurant was practically empty at that time. The food and service were excellent. The view is spectacular.
2 tables by the window were open and we asked if we could be moved. But our request was denied. They were open for a very long time probably just before we got our main meals. We didn’t like the place we were sitting. As there was everyone moving around our table. I don’t understand why they couldn’t move us. Food was good but then not being able to fulfill my request to move tables that were open half of the time I was there didn’t make sense to me. My girlfriend and I return there every year for Valentine’s Day, not sure if we will be returning the next year or during any occasion for that matter. Oh and the prime rib that I ordered, was one very fat piece of meat. I barely got any actual meat there. That’s where I was also very disappointed
Good food, great selection of wines and good value for your bucks
Really enjoyed our meal, relaxed setting, and lovely view.
Doughy dish&chips, boiled like finish on $45 tenderloin & not exactly a looked after experience.
The food was great. This resturant is expensive and could be not! It has a beatifull view to the ocean.
Overally, my wife, son and I had a great night!
Overall it was good. Only downside was one of our steaks was cooked "blue" when we ordered both medium rare. Restaurant was also out of creme brulee dessert which we were looking forward to.
Overall our experience was pretty good, food, atmosphere etc.. We started off at the bar for happy hour while waiting for our reservation. The service was spectacular, food and drinks were great.
When we went upstairs for dinner our server suggested the $40 dine out menu, when he came back to take our order and we ordered from the $30 menu he looked genuinely disappointed. After that point we felt very rushed by our server it was obvious we didn't spend enough money so he wanted the turn over.. he even went ahead and brought us our bill and asked if we needed the machine while I was still eating without asking if we'd like anything else. This was extremely disappointing as we were planning to have a few after dinner drinks there but felt pretty unwelcome after that, so we chose to go somewhere else.
we went on a dine out night and were very pleasantly surprised. The service and food were excellent. My ahi and my partner's halibut were especially good, fresh and perfectly cooked. The table for two rather cramped and with the low ceilings we had to raise our voices for any conversation, but overall, we were happy to have come
I got the $40 three course meal for Dine Out Vancouver. My first course was crab whiskey soup, and it came out cold. Lukewarm in the middle but cold on the outside. Had to send it back. My second course I got the steak and added prawns for another $10. The steak was good, but my prawns were undercooked and almost mushy. I was highly unimpressed for a meal I paid basically $50+ for. I won’t be returning :(
Great birthday dinner. Really great seafood!
Very nice location, close to the beach and Stanley Park. Very nice view. The price is reasonable. Food is average.
We had a fantastic dinning experience with boathouse. Excellent food especially the lobster tail, so awesome that it almost melt in your mouth.
We will definitely be back and will recommend this restaurant to our family and friends.
We tried the dine out Vancouver Menu. The Appies and the Desserts were ok. When it got to the main course the food was not presentable. The Lobster and crab ravioli was swimming in the sauce. We had to dig through all the sauce to find the ravioli. We also ordered the Salmon stuffed with crabs. Salmon was overcooked. The side veggies which were i think supposed to be grilled were raw. I eat out a lot and I know good food. Unfortunately that night I was there...i didn't see good food.
Overpriced for a meal that had no flavour. We used to really enjoy the Boathouse, but it seems the quality of food has dropped while the prices have continued to go up. Service was great though, even though we had a large group and needed to add extra seats at the last minute.
The Pacific cod was great. I would recommend the creme brulee.
Great location with a nice view of water and mountains. Food is nice enough and service was great. It gets busy on fine days but was pretty empty for Wednesday lunch on a rainy day.
Came for Happy Hour in the lounge on a cold, rainy day. The fire was roaring, which gave great comfort to our cold bones. Craig was a phenomenal server; made us feel at home, gave us super personalized service, & made us feel special!!!! Was a fantastic experience & I would recommend Boathouse English Bay to anyone - especially if Craig is involved!!!!
Service was good, food was ok. Expected to be served bread before dinner like most other Boathouse restaurants and others, but we were not given the opportunity. Was not one of our memorable anniversary dinners - that was our 52nd!
The value of the meal for New Year's eve was over rated. The same meal ordinarily would have cost $55.00 per person. Very slow service, steak was not cooked properly. Have been a patron of the Boathouse for many years but this was not the best experience. I will give it a go one more time. I am assuming that this was a one off experience.
Excellent food, service and ambience.
Would highly recommend to anyone
Service was terrible and food way to over salted. Very disappointing!
Got the best table over looking water
Christmas Eve dinner
Simply excellent!! Highly recommend!! Our server was the best!!
How can u run out of king crab legs at Christmas time,, wow
Delicious food and attentive and friendly service. Thank you.
Not a variety to substitute on veggies nor the cooking cheap canola oil. Front door gals not welcoming , my kid fell down the stairs and they did not care , literally looked away. Restroom facility was inconvenient location. Food was not great at all. Obvious management holds back on substitute menu items
Came here because I live sea food and we were celebrat8ng my boyfriends birthday. The restaurant and the decor was lovely and a nice setting for a special occasion. To be honest the food was a let down. I would expect the food that I had in a bar or average venue. What my boyfriend had ( crab ravioli) was quite nice. Everything else left a lot to be desired. We still had a nice evening but I wouldn't return or recommend.
A lovely restaurant to chat on a Monday evening. The crab legs had some over done parts but the portion sizes are generous.
