Boathouse English Bay Ratings and Reviews
We booked last minute for New Year's Eve. We were very pleasantly surprised when the restaurant could accommodate us. The set menu was great, good choice and the food was very good. We were allowed to stay at the table even though there was a turnover time given. But, because the tables were not all booked we could stay through midnight. We had a great time and will definitely be back.
Much more casual atmosphere than I was expecting. Lot's of families and children, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing; depends what you're looking for. Food was good, but not outstanding. Our server was good, though she got a bit too busy at the end of our meal. Kind of like going to an expensive White Spot.
When you consider the prices, the location, and the style of the room, one expects more...like freshly squeezed orange juice, and muffins not from the microwave. But mostly my dish as I ordered it. I had to sent it back twice because they couldn't get it right, and they still couldn't get it right!
We even had dinner there recently, and had an extremely underwhelming experience.
An amazing place to dine, but if the prices were a bit more reasonable, it would be much better. Dinner for 2 will almost cost you about $120 excluding drinks.
The food is very fresh and up to the standards.
Parking space needs to be worked on. It felt like they wanted you to only use valet parking services as there is no other way you are going to find parking in that area.
We had been in the restaurant before some years back and had liked it. This time we took two guests with us. Three of us ordered the fish sampler, The plate had salmon instead of one of the fish on the list. When I pointed this out they claimed it was not salmon. At the end head waiter came and said that it was indeed salmon, they had run out of the other fish and substituted it with salmon, and he said "what could we do?". So they are changing what we ordered without telling us, without asking if still wanted it or not!! Also we were not impressed with the quality of the food anymore..
We are not going there any more..
Our waiter, Robert, made this evening a night to remember. We were hosting a new friend from Brazil, on his birthday. He, as we all were, was amazed at the service we received. We are telling all of our friends with the magical night that we had with Robert at the helm!!!
We were well received, the young hostess was warm and friendly. The food was average. Crab soup lacked flavour and salt. Salmon and Crab very average, Salmon was a bit overcooked and on the dry side. The sable fish was average. I would not reorder the Creame Brule, too grainy for my liking the caramalised suger was done well and with a nice crust. The crab and prawn dinner was alright. The breaded halibut was good and I would reoder if I visited again. The Steak and.... dinner was good done well. The wine and drink were mostly good except for the bellini. too runny
I was strange that there was a hostess on our way out, who did not offer a smile or thank you. A warm send off was always given when we use the richmond location.
Another great Boathouse experience! Food is always well presented and top-notch. First time I had Calamari there, and it is certainly one of the very best I have had! Steak and jumbo prawns - one of my favourite - you can always expect a great steak here, although this time could have been a bit more tender. For a sirloin steak, it's way better than the Keg.Jason was our server. Second time he has taken care of us. Excellent service, great personality, and very professional. I have never had a bad, or even mediocre experience, at any Boathouse. Of the ones I have been to, the English Bay location is my favourite.
This was my first visit to The Boathouse on English Bay. The view form the first floor over the Bay is very pleasant, and the interior décor provides for a pleasant ambience, although I found the level of the background music just a bit too intrusive - too loud and too intrusive.
Sevice was fast and overal very good. The wine we chose was fine, and the food on the whole extremely palatable, but a major disappointment was that both the soup I had for starters and the main fish course was only lukewarm by the time it reaches the table, and two out of three of my fellow diners thought the same (the fourth diner was a guest form out of town, and we did not of course ask him). This was a major disappointment and might jeopardize a future return
One of the best restaurants in Vancouver for fresh seafood with a bit of a local flair. Solid wine list (sticking to anything from BC and you won't go wrong).
The window tables fill up first as there is a good waterfront view (before dark and not in the pouring rain as our last visit !). The restaurant itself really has an old "boathouse" ambiance. The staff are attentive, but not intrusive, and full of local knowledge about things to see / do for tourists (our waiter gave us the inside scoop on Granville Island).
Visitors may have difficult time locating the Boathouse, as it sits right on a street corner, so a taxi may be best. But if driving, there is valet parking and reasonable street parking (free after 6p
The dining area is upstairs and there is no elevator, so because a member of our party is disabled, we had to sit in the bar. There was a wine-tasting event going on in the bar, and it was crowded and noisy and not at all enjoyable for us. While I can't blame the restaurant for this problem, it did mar what might have been a great meal, because the food was quite good.
The Boathouse staff were very accommodating. I had put in a special request to have a table with a view as my Parents were in from the Island and had never been to the Boathouse before. Our waiter, Wesley was very attentive and the meals were wonderful. The prices were a bit more than I expected so we probably won't be back unless it's a very special occasion.
Our dining experience was fabulous. The lady in the reception area heard my friend and I talk about Mojitos, and how neither of us has ever had one before. When we went up to our table, the server brought each of us a Mojito, courtesy of the manager. We felt that this was very hospitable of the manager, and it was certainly above and beyond any standard of hospitality.
We were extremely impressed with the service and will be going back to the Boathouse much more often, from now on.
We are also really looking forward to the "lobster fest", in January.

The whole experience was good - my Son, Daughter-in-law and my Grandson were visiting from Quebec. They were extremely appreciative of everything, but I was a little 'put-off' by the slightly sarcastic and off-hand attitude of our waiter. Altogether a very pleasant evening.
We come to the Boathouse often and I can say I was quite disppointed this time. I know that it was busy with the crabfest going on but it was rather disappointing to have made reservations and for us (a couple) be stuck between two groups of 16. It led to significant discomfort and we were not able to enjoy our anniversary as well as we would've like. Also, the food took a very long time to come out (at least 20 minutes after out apis).
We were at the Boathouse for my birthday, we had an amazing time! We brought my 4 year old daughter who started to cry when we first sat down.....we thought "oh no I hope that this won't upset everyone around us" our server Robert came over and sang "Dont cry for me Argentina" and my daughter and everyone around us began to laugh. What a wonderfull way to difuse the situation! Our service experience only got more amazing from that point on!! It was the best, most friendly, outstanding service that we have EVER received in our dining out experience!
I would love for the Boathouse to commend Robert and please let him know just how impressed we were and to thank him for such a wonderfull evening!!
Honestly I was not impressed by the food, nothing that I wouldn’t find in any other steak and seafood restaurant. I had a table at the patio; with a nice view although a little bit distracted by the busy street just in front of the restaurant. I think the horse shoe bay is much better. I would go there for the view but not for the food, and again there are places with better views.
I sometimes eat at a famous restaurant just up the street, but after our brunch at the Boathouse, I realized that I had been going to the wrong place. Everything about the Boathouse, from the friendly service to the excellent food and amazing view made me want to make it my new haunt!
I have been wanting to go to this restaurant on my last few trips to Vancouver, and was really looking forward to it. The restaurant was packed, our table was so close to a large table beside us that the servers and customers could barely make it though. Our server gave us our water and didn't come back again for 10-15 minutes, taking our drink orders along with our meals, since we were ready to order by then. My husband and I both ordered the #2 Crab combo-1/2 a dungeness crab and snow crab, and both received the #1 combo with king crab. The king crab was okay, but the dungeness was the worst I have ever had. The butter was not hot, and the sides were so-so. We were very disappointed in the service and the food.
We made a reso for 7:45. We had to wait for our table. The hostess took us up to our table but left us standing in the middle of the dinning room because there were no empty tables. We were supposed to have a window table to view the beautiful pink sunset. Hostess came back and took us to the back of the dinning room to a table with not the view of the sunset but the view of the kitchen. Our waiter was the worst waiter that we have ever experienced. We sat for at least 10 mins before he took our drink order. We were almost finished our meals when he came to ask us for the first time how our meals were. And when he brought the check we were sitting there for 15 mins drinkless and he says "no rush ladies". Food was excellent though!
it is a raesonable place, good food, friendly (but somewhat slow) service .. however, too loud to have a conversation. the Boathouse at Horseshoe bay is far superior as they do not pack the tables one next to the other and as such, you can actually have a conversation while eating.
