Boathouse English Bay Ratings and Reviews
2 tables by the window were open and we asked if we could be moved. But our request was denied. They were open for a very long time probably just before we got our main meals. We didn’t like the place we were sitting. As there was everyone moving around our table. I don’t understand why they couldn’t move us. Food was good but then not being able to fulfill my request to move tables that were open half of the time I was there didn’t make sense to me. My girlfriend and I return there every year for Valentine’s Day, not sure if we will be returning the next year or during any occasion for that matter. Oh and the prime rib that I ordered, was one very fat piece of meat. I barely got any actual meat there. That’s where I was also very disappointed
Overall our experience was pretty good, food, atmosphere etc.. We started off at the bar for happy hour while waiting for our reservation. The service was spectacular, food and drinks were great.
When we went upstairs for dinner our server suggested the $40 dine out menu, when he came back to take our order and we ordered from the $30 menu he looked genuinely disappointed. After that point we felt very rushed by our server it was obvious we didn't spend enough money so he wanted the turn over.. he even went ahead and brought us our bill and asked if we needed the machine while I was still eating without asking if we'd like anything else. This was extremely disappointing as we were planning to have a few after dinner drinks there but felt pretty unwelcome after that, so we chose to go somewhere else.
we went on a dine out night and were very pleasantly surprised. The service and food were excellent. My ahi and my partner's halibut were especially good, fresh and perfectly cooked. The table for two rather cramped and with the low ceilings we had to raise our voices for any conversation, but overall, we were happy to have come
I got the $40 three course meal for Dine Out Vancouver. My first course was crab whiskey soup, and it came out cold. Lukewarm in the middle but cold on the outside. Had to send it back. My second course I got the steak and added prawns for another $10. The steak was good, but my prawns were undercooked and almost mushy. I was highly unimpressed for a meal I paid basically $50+ for. I won’t be returning :(
We tried the dine out Vancouver Menu. The Appies and the Desserts were ok. When it got to the main course the food was not presentable. The Lobster and crab ravioli was swimming in the sauce. We had to dig through all the sauce to find the ravioli. We also ordered the Salmon stuffed with crabs. Salmon was overcooked. The side veggies which were i think supposed to be grilled were raw. I eat out a lot and I know good food. Unfortunately that night I was there...i didn't see good food.
Overpriced for a meal that had no flavour. We used to really enjoy the Boathouse, but it seems the quality of food has dropped while the prices have continued to go up. Service was great though, even though we had a large group and needed to add extra seats at the last minute.
Came for Happy Hour in the lounge on a cold, rainy day. The fire was roaring, which gave great comfort to our cold bones. Craig was a phenomenal server; made us feel at home, gave us super personalized service, & made us feel special!!!! Was a fantastic experience & I would recommend Boathouse English Bay to anyone - especially if Craig is involved!!!!
The value of the meal for New Year's eve was over rated. The same meal ordinarily would have cost $55.00 per person. Very slow service, steak was not cooked properly. Have been a patron of the Boathouse for many years but this was not the best experience. I will give it a go one more time. I am assuming that this was a one off experience.
Not a variety to substitute on veggies nor the cooking cheap canola oil. Front door gals not welcoming , my kid fell down the stairs and they did not care , literally looked away. Restroom facility was inconvenient location. Food was not great at all. Obvious management holds back on substitute menu items
Came here because I live sea food and we were celebrat8ng my boyfriends birthday. The restaurant and the decor was lovely and a nice setting for a special occasion. To be honest the food was a let down. I would expect the food that I had in a bar or average venue. What my boyfriend had ( crab ravioli) was quite nice. Everything else left a lot to be desired. We still had a nice evening but I wouldn't return or recommend.
Where to start! Had an 8:30 reservation...we arrived on time to a vacant reception area and at first thought the restaurant may be closed....a host? arrived and then promptly left without a welcome! She arrived back and said "follow me" which we did...my mom is elderly and had a hard time climbing the very long set of stairs to the restaurant. Had we known the layout we would definitely not chosen it for this reason alone. Ambience is non existent...very old and out dated. View is spectacular but so would have been the Cactus Club across the street! The service was ok at best however we could have overlooked that and the ambience had the food been great but it was not! We had out of town guests from Ethiopia and thought a nice meal of our awesome BC seafood would be fitting. So disappointing!!!!! My husband had steak and lobster, the lobster was absolutely over cooked and dry, two of us had the lobster grill which had salmon, shrimp skewer (called prawns) and a stuffed lobster tail....well...the lobster tail stuffing was horrible...it tasted like cream cheese and who knows what blah yuk...the salmon was very fishy (I come from a fishing family and know good salmon!) the shrimp skewer was ok tasted like some steamed shrimp but ok and the wild rice pilaf soooo salty nobody ate it.... my mom had the Miso crusted halibut and only ate a few bites so we packed it up to take home. I tasted it at home and it was also so salty that it was inedible. My mom has dementia so didn't speak up but I felt badly that we hadn't sent her meal back! Also have to mention when we decided to have the "make it a meal option" when we ordered our meal we had to advise up front which dessert option we would like....one guest changed her mind but it was already preordered...not sure if that's standard protocol but not a fan...seemed like a fast food joint! Long and short we will never go back! Restaurant was not busy and I can see why. Truly felt we got the dregs!! Very poor!
Spectacular ambience, even without a window seat. A little noisy early on but less so later in the evening. Nice to see Sangria on the menu. The appetizer and desert for an extra $10 was fabulous and a great idea for couples who like to share. We were celebrating an occasion and did not feel rushed. A neighbourhood gem for sure.
Went for a birthday lunch. One person in our party was celebrating a milestone birthday and we mentioned it on the reservation. We also mentioned that we wanted the Thanksgiving menu and nowhere on the Boathouse website did it say that the Thanksgiving menu was only at dinner time. Even with a "happy birthday" balloon in hand (and the mention in the reservation) the hostess made no effort to say "happy birthday". Our server originally didn't wish a happy birthday, but when reminded he did make things right by bringing a complimentary piece of cake with a candle on it. At least the view was spectacular and the cajun cod tacos were delicious. The burger was not bad but not spectacular either. Overall a bit disappointing. Attention to the reservation details and more accurate mention of when the Thanksgiving menu was available would have made the experience more enjoyable.
