Boathouse White Rock Ratings and Reviews
This boathouse has exceptional food however this time I ordered the shrimp and lobster ravioli without tomatoes and came with the tomato dressing. The restaurant was very gracious in taking back my dinner. The replaces it with a very thick white sauce which overpowered the pasta. I have made this request before and received a very tasty light sauce that complimented the pasta. The manager did come over and offer me a free hors d'œuvre in way of compensation. I would not hesitate to go to this restaurant again.
Overall food was ok. My husband had the cod and chips but they were just average. I had the steak with crab Oscar topping. The service started out great and our first appetizer and French fries for our son came very quickly but then the service slowed down drastically as the night proceeded. Was told our meal took so long because I asked for the steak to be cooked well done since I’m 7 months pregnant. The steak came out medium well without the crab topping. The waitress said she thought I ordered the steak off the $30 dine out Vancouver menu and not the steak off the $40 menu. The steaks were different cuts and when I asked about my steak because it came without the crab topping she got me the topping on the side but didn’t replace the steak with the right cut. And then she billed me for the steak on the $40 menu. She also tried to bill us for 2 seafood chowders when we only ordered one. After our dinner dishes were cleared we were given cutlery for our dessert and then we waited 15 minutes for our desserts to come out. My husband asked if the dessert was hand made to order the waitress quickly responded that the kitchen was backed up (it was 9pm and the restaurant was already half empty). We won’t be returning to the dining room anytime soon. Maybe in the summer we will visit the roof top patio for drinks and appies but that’s about all.
We've been coming to the Boathouse in White Rock for New Years day dinner for the past 3 years. I can honestly say I will not be back for our yearly dinner. Service was in the slow side. Ahi Tuna poke was all right a bit fishy, my daughter ordered the salmon and the first time it came out it was dry and the second time raw - by this time everyone had eaten and she didn't bother to get it redone for the third time. I ordered the halibut that is probably the most expensive item on the menu and it was dry. I was so looking forward to a good peice of fish but was very disappointed. I ask for extra vegetables and the carrots came out rock hard. Hardly worth 40 bucks. I could have cooked something better myself. I NEVER write reviews and probably would not have unless the survey came up on my email. It was not worth the money at all. Our bill was roughly 350 - 400 and that was after my daughter's meal was taken off. It's unfortunate that I've had this experience as it has tarnished my opinion of the Boathouse. It will not be on my too list of places to dine at.
Thanks for reading
My December 31 dinner at 6:30pm was to thank my sister for looking after me following surgery. It was also New Year’s Eve
Our table for two was in the second layer of the dining room. There was a large group on the lower level over the wall from us.
The noise from this large group was horrendous, we could hardly hear ourselves speak. Other guests had to have the same experience as us. Groups are generally more loud than 2 or 4 guests at a table. They should have been assigned a specific area causing the least amount of annoyance to other guests.
Yes it’s New Year’s Eve and people go out for dinner so the restaurant needs to accommodate that fact. I had to ask for bread and some cultury.
The menu was pre set and the lobster legs were obviously sitting and had softened. I could have used scissors instead of crushers to extract the meat.
Not the best dining experience. It’s some time since I dined at the Boathouse and I’m afraid it will be even longer before I will be back.
I would have received better service and value for money up the street in any restaurant.
I brought my family including a daughter who lives in London England and is worldly. She left raving about the food, service and atmosphere. Our group thought likewise and had the excellent service from the moment we entered the door until we left. Our food (various types of fish etc.) was of the highest quality. We will all return with such great service and food.
We came for a nice Christmas Eve dinner. We felt very rushed! We had three courses and were out by six. We asked for dessert not to come right after main course and it did. I did not complain as it was Christmas Eve but I will not rush back to the Boathouse!
our server looked and acted like she had not slept in days , never refilled bread and was quick you get us out so we tipped accordingly . we eat here at least three times a year for birthdays and drop in on our walks and never have issues but that night was not the usual .
This restaurant was a great choice for my husband's birthday dinner. There was something on the menu for everyone. The view was beautiful with the lit trees and pier off Marine. A train went by and that was a hit with the grandsons. The service was also wonderful. We will definitely dine here again.
have been to the boathouse before but not in about 6 or 7 years as white rock beach is a gongshow in the summer. this time went for anniversary in November. parked right out front of the restaurant. food was great, service was great. no complaints. even better....IT WAS LOBSTER FEST!
The food was average but the service was extremely poor. The restaurant wasn't overly busy but we were virtually ignored. Took quite a while for our order to be taken and the server never checked back after bringing our meals. I had said I would drink water for dinner but had to request a second glass of water. A dessert menu was dropped off at the table but the server never returned to take our order. We finally gave up and finally flagged somebody down to request our bill.
the place is impressive and very conducive for small private occasions. it is also well organized and the staff are very professional. i will highly recommend this restaurant to my family and friends who are looking for a dining experience with a touch of class.
Expensive meal, none of us four friends were satisfied with the quality and flavours.
My salad was not bad, but didn't have any exciting or unique flavours, something I could have made at home. My friends did not enjoy the calamari. The coconut cod was also much more soupy than expected, and the flavours were not well balanced. The coconut taste could barely come through.
Our server was helpful and pleasant. The steaming bread basket before the meal was appreciated. Decor was comfortable and classy.
One thing that wowed me: the proximity to a beautiful beach and sunset view was amazing.
I did not realize parking in White Rock would get so expensive (3.00 per hour until November, when the parking price drops in half). Also, the ride down to the Boathouse was tough in my little Honda, the streets very, very steep.
We enjoyed a lovely dinner served by a very gracious waiter. Had fun w/ the staff. Celebrated mom's 93rd birthday. The only difficulty was the bathroom. Staff unaware that the handicapped washroom was located on a different floor from the main dining room. Mom had a very hard time using a regular stall with her wheelchair. So a little bit of education to staff would be very helpful. I was able to use the handicapped washroom with my wheelchair, after dinner, as we exited the building .
