Boat House Waterfront Dining Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary at The Boat House. I had had a dinner there a couple of years ago with a friend and it seemed like a good spot. Well it was a great spot. We finally found a restaurant that can serve up shell fish without feeling rubbery. The food was fresh and delicious, the wine was perfect for the meal, and our waitress was the perfect combination of informative and cheerful. We are looking forward to going back.
My Wife and I have been to the Boathouse many times. We have never been disappointed. The food is always prepared just right and the attentiveness of the servers is spot on. They treat every Customer as if they are the only one. Of course, you can't beat the view from just about every table. We started going to the Boathouse on a recommendation from a friend. We have since taken friends there ourselves and they have loved it as well. I highly recommend the Boathouse.
My husband and I dined here recently. We have been here a number of times before because the food is generally very good and the view of the Sakonnet River is terrific. We were again pleased with our food and were treated to a spectacular sunset.
His baby spinach salad was as expected. My crab cake was very light and flavorful. I liked it, however, if one prefers crab cakes with big lumps just barely held together, this would not fit the bill. The "local herb salad" was actually a few greens spread on top - nicely spicy, but I might have called it a garnish rather than a salad.
My Georges Banks Scallops were caramelized perfectly, and the barley was a nice complement. The chorizo tasted more like small pieces of bacon, but whatever it was, it gave a wonderful crunch and flavor to the dish. My husband's paella was a little more ordinary, (he only found one piece of chorizo, but the shellfish were cooked nicely) but very good.
I should add that we were here (unexpectedly) during restaurant week. My husband had the three course offering and it was very well priced.
Our bottle of Pinot Gris was very pleasant.
We arrived at 5:45 on Friday and the place was already packed. Lots of energy at the bar, great food and wonderful vistas. We will be back.
Seldom do we get a chance to dine at the Boat House during the off season, however with it being Newport Restaurant Week we decided to go to the Boat House. As always the food was outstanding, we started off with the Mussels and Spinach Salad, both were excellent, The Mussels were in a rich broth, the Salad was fresh with the right amount of blue cheese. We both had the Paella, an excellent choice. For dessert we each had the Boston Cream Pie, not really a pie, more of a cake it was a perfect ending to another great meal at the Boat House.
We went for dinner and had a great view of the setting sun. Our server was pleasant and attentive but not overbearing. I had the artic Char special which was similar to salmon served with lentils and polenta sticks. My husband had pork chop which was delicious and served with spinach and scalloped potatoes. The food is always good and prepared creatively. We shared an order of calamari which was tender but not as crispy as I usually like. The wine menu is limited and somewhat pricey; not many red wines in the selection.
Boat House was wonderful, service was spectacular. Went for an anniversary private night out and they did a wonderful ob to make us feel special but giving us plenty of privacy too. Thank you so much. Already planning to bring family back on our next visit!
We have dined at the Boat House in Tiverton several times and this time did not disappoint either! The atmosphere is very nice and the food is superb!! The views of the Sakonnet River are splendid as well; this time we got to enjoy seeing the river iced over which does not occur very often.
WE HAVE BEEN TO THE BOATHOUSE MANY TIMES BUT THIS TIME WAS ESPECIALLY GREAT. THE FOOD, THE SERVICE, AND THE ATMOSPHERE ALL ADDED UP TO AN EXTREMELY RELAXING AND ROMANTIC EVENING. BEING IN THE MIDST OF A DEEP-FREEZE AND SNOW BURIED SEASON, IT WAS WONDERFUL TO RELAX AMID THE WARM ATMOSPHERE OF THE BOATHOUSE. WE ALSO ENJOYED THE LOBSTER SPECIAL ON WEDNESDAYS. GREAT IDEA TO GET PEOPLE OUT IN THE MIDST OF WINTER.
The Boat House has an excellent Gluten Free menu, but some of its staff doesn't pay attention to GF requirements. I ordered an appetizer of mussels from the GF menu and the dish arrived with two slices of bread perched on top.
Having grown up on Long Island, I know what roast duck is supposed to be like. When it is offered, I tend to order it preferentially over more commonly available entrees. The roast duck entree from the GF menu left a lot to be desired.
Nonetheless, we enjoyed our anniversary dinner and felt well treated by the waitstaff.
Met my cousin for an early dinner. Snow was threatening, so we allowed time to chat before the storm. The food was excellent, of substantial portions. The men had the paella and it was delicious and hearty. One of the women had swordfish, and the other had sole; both were pronounced delicious.. Definitely a revisit is in order. We are looking forward to it.
We all enjoyed a diverse menu of wine, soft drinks, appetizers, seafood entrees and desserts.
One person in our group required a gluten free meal which was easily achieved with the Boathouse's
special menu. As a frequent visitor to the Newport Restaurant Group, some hints for diabetic
choices, especially for desserts would be appreciated. The children's choices were also appreciated by a youngster in our group.
I can't say enough good things about the Boat House. The food was fantastic, it's located at a beautiful spot and the service was outstanding. I went there for a first date, chosen because it was close to her home so I had no idea what I was walking into... I had a rose to give her which the manager noticed when I came in and asked what the special occasion was, when I told him he smiled and said he'd have to make sure we had a good table. He sat us in a spot where we were not crowded and must have told our server as she was very attentive but did not constantly interrupt. After our meal we were surprised by a complementary glass of champagne - what a wonderful surprise! What we didn't realize is that we ended up spending over three hours there... the restaurant was busy and never once did we feel rushed or pressured to move along and make room for new patrons. It was a wonderful date and the service and food certainly helped! We will go back again and again!
Boat House is a wonderful place to go in any season and winter is no exception. We had a leisurely lunch with a magnificent view of Mount Hope Bay. Without going through wnat everyone had, I would like to mention the Hall of Fame seafood chowder. It's a bit on the spicy side which in my case is perfectly fine. It is not your ordinary chowder. Our waiter Joe or John was outstanding, friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and gracious. Considering it was the Friday after Christmas, the restaurant was full and evyone was in good spirits. This is not my first time here nor will it be my last. I highly recommend it both for lunch and dinner.
Once again The Boat House stood up to our expectation! My husband and I enjoyed our Christmas Eve dinner of baked stuffed lobster, calamari (by far one of the BEST around), New England clam chowder & crab cakes. The service was EXCELLENT as usual and my drink was perfect, my husband is very happy they offer porters & stouts as many places do not. I only wish they had a simpler dessert menu.
After being greeted by a well mannered host, on Christmas Eve everything, started to go south. They were not busy and although very friendly, the server haunted us to enter our meal order 3 times, during the drink and appraiser portion of the meal. Then she did not return to ask for drink refills. My wife and I both ordered the Paella. Very disappointing, 2 little necks, 2 shrimp, 4 mussels 1 scallop and a kibble of swordfish, over priced at 27. My son ordered the seafood scampi, which he commented had great flavor but the chef forgot to add the pouched lobster and the manager made a special visit to deliver. If there are any recommendations to be considered, they would be the raspberry Cosmo, Field green salad and the specialty teas.
We have enjoyed the boathouse on several occasions, both special occasions and routine occasions. We have never been disappointed and consistently have offered a 5 star rating. You will find no better restaurant, especial when you have something to celebrate. We shall keep returning!
I am a big fish eater and was disappointed in the selection. Nothing unusual and very small white fish selection. They did accommodate me by baking the cod but sole was the only other white fish selection. A restaurant on the water in New England, called The Boathouse, gives one the idea they are going to a fish/seafood restaurant. You can get salmon and swordfish anywhere.
Other diners did enjoy the braised ribs and salmon but seems with all the fish we have up here, they can do better. Personally, I would not go back. But I can see where other people might enjoy it.
We also didn't get a bread basket, and my wife just answered when I asked about that, 'nothing's free.'
I did find it awkward that the bar is located right in the middle of the restaurant.
We recently visited to celebrate a birthday. Two of us chose the seafood scampi and two chose the scallops. Both meals where perfectly cooked and seasoned. The wine list was excellent as was our server. I will recommend The Boathouse to anyone who appreciates fine dining and excellent service.
