Boathouse - Port Moody Ratings and Reviews
Given that the restaurant was not busy, I was disappointed at the level of service received. Our server wasn't very attentive and service was slow. My burger was burned on the bottom and the dessert was not up to the Boathouse' s usual standard. I got the impression that the staff didn't want to be there. Perhaps they had been busy the night before (New Years Eve) and were tired, but they created a poor environment for our meal.
This was a disappointing experience and I will think twice about visiting the Boathouse again in the future.
I had a very good steak, ordered blue but came rare. Which matched my companion's prime rib ordered medium well which came rare. They do rare well. The sides were basic and well prepared --not stellar or stunning, but very tasty. The dining room is very large with very high ceilings and many tables not too close together. We were lucky to get the corner by the windows, giving us a lovely view of the water and the lights across the water. The service was excellent, but relatively slow. We weren't in a hurry at any point, but we didn't see our server at all for long periods of time.
We were early, and sat in the bar having appies and drinks, which was also pretty slow, but pleasant enough. The staff is clearly happy to be there, even on New Year's Eve ... the fixed price menu had lots of options, especially for seafood lovers.
Arrived on New Years Eve with no notice of a special set menu. Comment from the hostess was they tried to call me serval times, but funny enough no one left a message. Terrible value for the money. Additional $15 person for the same food on regular menu just with less choice and smaller portions. Unable to get any substitutions and the server was less than helpful. Didn’t make for a very nice start to New Year’s Eve. $75 per person should be way better than that! Left feeling ripped off and disappointed!
We had only few options because it was New Year’s Eve, food quality was not even close to what I have experienced before, chewy halibut and squid to little to find, only batter.
I like this restaurant, this has been my worst experience there so I’ll keep going but NOT when menu is that limited.
The third time in a row when we’ve waited over an hour for our food, which isn’t the best when you have a toddler in tow. The server was friendly and apologetic about the wait time and let us use an unused portion of the restaurant for our little one to run around a bit while we waited. The food is good, not excellent and a bit expensive. We keep going back since the location is convenient for us.
First time we went was for a special occasion. The service was outstanding and the seafood excellent. The waiter was always there when we needed him. The bread was freshly baked, hot and out of the oven. Very large ceilings and spacious interior. It was comfortable despite the cold Winter temperatures outside. Warm fireplace in the middle of the dining area too, which was a nice touch.
Took my neighbour and friend here for Christmas Lunch. The food (crab cake, ahi tuna tacos, shrimp skillet) was very good, and our server was friendly and attentive. My only complaint was the after-meal cappuccino I had was sub-par. Espresso was pretty much tastless. I can do considerably better at home!
we had a 630 reservation. Once seated we had a slight wait for drinks, not too bad. Once we got our drinks we ordered appies and dinner together. So far ok. However we ended up waiting til 815 for our main meal. Not ok!! We had a 2 year old with us and hence the wait was not a good experience!! Our waiter was very nice and apologized for the kitchen delay and brought an extra appie but we ended the night on a very sour note!! And no apologies from management. Not cool!!
This dinner was to celebrate a 50th Birthday. We chose the Boathouse because we could not confirm a reservation (at a decent time) at the Keg. We ordered premium food and drinks ($600 for 6 people) and ALL of our food came out lukewarm or cold, $50 for 4 King crab legs that were overcooked and lukewarm. From the time we sat down (7:15 PM) to the time we received our meals was an hour and twenty minutes. The server who served us was very apologetic.
I hope this was an off night but you only celebrate a 50th once, I doubt we will go back, there are just way too many other choices.
This was my partner's and my first time at the Boathouse and we were absolutely thrilled! Amanada B was an exceptional waitress and made our visit enjoyable, entertaining, and truly memorable. The restaurant was beautiful and online booking day of made it really easy to guarantee a spot.
We have gone to Boat House Port Moody a number of times. It is conveniently located for us, we like the ambiance and location and find it very good value for money. The food is quite good. Normally service is very good and friendly. One observation this time relates to our server. We were taking out employees and spouses for a pre-Christmas dinner. We ordered drinks and then wine. Our server asked one couple what type of wine they would like. They indicated the variety they liked best and said they would leave it up to the server to select a wine for them. My husband heard this and decided to see what she would return with. She did bring back a good one - and the most expensive one on the menu. He certainly was not going to say anything to anyone, but if management reads these reviews they might suggest to servers that when a customer asks the server to make a recommendation or to select the wine, it would be good form for the server to ask what price range the customer is thinking of, to provide a couple of options, or if they want to suggest the most expensive, indicate that it is a very good wine, but also the most expensive and is the customer fine with that. Ultimately it turned out to be a fine evening that we all enjoyed and no damage was done - except possibly for the server. Because we had a larger group, she pointed out that they automatically set the tip at 15%. Normally we would tip more and would have done it that night, save for the server's decision on how to handle the wine selection. She ended up with a 15% tip, lower than she would have otherwise received.
This was a very good experience. We were seated on time - according to our reservations, the waiters were excellent - courteous and helpful. The ambiance was great - not so noisy that you had a hard time with conversation but also not so quiet that when we burst into laughter we were not 'obvious partiers'. The food was also great despite the confusion between King Crab and Snow Crab. A good time was had by all!
We made a reservation and were seated in a booth by the door and kitchen in the dining room. We didn’t like that but had no other choice. Our server was very good. The menu selection is boring especially the starters. The food is mediocre, and expensive the vegetables were undercooked. The Boathouse is advertised as a fine dining restaurant. It is ordinary. We won’t be back anytime soon.
Not super pleased with our last visit here. Had requested a private table and was initially seated in a busy, noisy area by the kitchen and a large party even though we could have been seated elsewhere. This was accommodated after we mentioned this.
Noted on the reservation it was a celebration. Server did not ask what the occasion was - perhaps they don't get this information when a reservation is made through this method?
Prime Rib is no longer served which is what one of us had planned on ordering.
It took way too long for the server to initially come to our table after we were seated. The restaurant was busy, but not full to capacity and no patrons waiting to be seated.
The server we had was good throughout the meal.
The steak meal was okay but the root vegetables lacked flavour.
The baby back ribs meal was average ( not impressed with the vegetable servings with this meal - more or less French fries and coleslaw).
Sorry but we won't be back.
The lobster bisque was more watery than last year's. The portion seems smaller.
We ordered a 1/2 bottle of wine, and the waitress waited until we finished the first course to tell us that there is no stock. After that, we had no mood for any more wine.
The waitress also did not check the bill and charged us an extra soup. Glad that we checked and found out.
Service was bad overall, even when it's not busy.
This location has traditionally been the franchise's 'problem child' with inconsistent service. Service was OK this time and our server Joshua was friendly and helpful throughout the evening. Note to managers: let your servers sample the menu items so that they can give meaningful advice to diners.
It's a large dining area but they seated everyone in one section which took away from the ambience and limited intimacy. Would have preferred if they spread diners out and then filled in the gaps that packing everyone in one section.
Reasonably diverse and affordable wine list. We were there for Lobster Fest and appreciated the staff's accommodating our request to split some of menu items to share. Lobster portions were good (we had the Atlantic AND Caribbean lobster tails and shared the two entrees)
We were there to celebrate a couple of anniversaries 'of sorts' and appreciated our server 'comping' the desert AND for the kitchen staff decorating the plate.
The staff redeemed some previous bad experiences so we will be back.
We went to the restaurant on my mother's birthday.
The food was delicious though a bit pricey, but it is ok for fine dining. We enjoyed perfectly cooked lobsters, swordfish and pasta, and deserts. The only big problem as I can see it is noise level which is really loud. We had to almost shout to each other during the conversation. This is basically the only drawback. Overall we were satisfied with experience.
To the owners of the restaurant: if you could reduce the noise level using some noise absorbing technologies, that would be great.
